The DoubleTree by Hilton Charleston Riverview offers a convenient location with shuttle service to downtown and easy parking. Recent renovations have improved the rooms, and the staff is generally friendly and helpful. However, significant cleanliness issues and inconsistent hot water have been reported in recent reviews.
Great location, easy to find, easy parking and check in. There is a bar/restaurant, Renee there was fantastic to chat with. Ended up booking another night as the beds were comfortable, room was quiet and the front desk workers (Patti in particular) were so friendly and ready to give local recommendations for everything. There is a shuttle to downtown, and they were kind enough to take us to a restaurant and pick us up after. Will stay here again every time I come to Charleston!
We stayed here for our Christmas visit to Charleston. We ate downtown and visited the James Island Festival of Lights. This hotel is perfectly situated to enjoy both conveniently. Dee was very friendly and informative at check-in. The free shuttle was not running which was a bit disappointing. The rooms have been recently renovated. My wife and I were very comfortable. We have paid a lot more in Charleston and not been so well taken care of. The parking lot is easy to navigate (which cannot be said of all hotels in the area). Prices in the Market are reasonable. The room had a nice view of the city. It was quiet and clean. We will stay here again.
Nice hotel, good location, relatively quiet. Room was clean and has everything you need. Microwave, mini fridge, iron. Ask for a room away from the road or you'll hear constant vehicle noise. Only negative was the hot water. Shower water was sort of hot and did cycle in temp a bit but never got cool. Sink water didn't get hot, only tepid, no matter how long it ran. Staff was helpful and pleasant. Parking around back. Descent size room for two people. Bar/restaurant needs to change the music they play. Not really pleasant, not really appropriate to hear. Also, the common areas need attention to wipe off finger prints and marks from the elevators and doors.
So this hotel wasn’t built a DoubleTree from scratch. This was an old Cambria hotel owned by Choice. Hilton took over in August. Cambria did not keep up with the appearance of the hotel and Choice staff isn’t on the same level as Hilton. I would assume that Hilton probably kept most of the staff from the other company and that’s the biggest part of this hotels problem. Upon check in, went to the room and it was gross. A Gatorade bottle next to the chaise lounge and plastic pieces on the bathroom counter. Front desk lady was apologetic and super friendly…on to the next room. This room had toothpaste splatter on the mirror and pee dribbles on the toilet seat. On to the third room…like all the others, dirty but I was tired and it was going to have to do. Woke up the next morning, took a shower and when finished took the floor towel and dried up all the shower water that gets on the floor since there’s no door for the shower. The picture is of the towel showing just how dirty the freaking bathroom floor was! I checked out after one night of my initial four night stay. The place is gross, the pillows aren’t the normal DoubleTree pillows one has come to expect, all the chaise lounges smell of wet dog, no streaming services on the TV and yada yada. If this is someone’s first experience with a DoubleTree…I’m sorry!! The DoubleTree brand as a whole is so so much better than this wannabe DoubleTree.
We came for a long weekend and were pleasantly surprised how lovely our 3 day stay was considering some of the previous reviews I read. The front office staff was professional, compassionate and very helpful, as well as having a sense of humor! The room was clean, lots of towels, hot water and clean shower, loved it! The bar staff at night were very busy with guests but service was impeccable with Mark and Renee. Surprisingly the food was delicious as well. Breakfast was lovely, Jennifer is the morning chef and her grits are superb, as well as all of her breakfast entrees.Jennifer is a great and smart chef. It's important to me and my husband who the staff is at the hotels we stay at because no matter how clean it is, if your staff isn't accommodating and pleasant, then I don't return or give out a recommendation. This DoubleTree will be recommended to our friends back in NJ.
As I was planning to post this review, I looked at the others and feel like we were at different hotels. But for us, the experience was great. We generally opt for the higher end hotels because good sleep sets the stage for any vacation, so we had no expectations. The room was clean, up to date and well situated. The bathroom was well lit the shower was spacious and the water pressure and temperatures were great. The hotel and pool area, though we had no time to enjoy it were clean, well organized and welcoming. And the staff was friendly and efficient.
