The Ansonborough offers a stylish and centrally-located experience in Savannah, boasting a renovated historic building and a comfortable atmosphere. However, recent reviews highlight inconsistencies regarding noise levels, staff attentiveness, and breakfast quality, alongside concerns about room amenities and value.
Great place to stay in walking distance of most everything you want to do. We rented bikes and had a blast touring the town. Be sure to check it out as it gets dark. Very helpful staff and had a small breakfast to start the day.
We recently stayed at The Ansonborough and overall appreciated the location and charm of the property. However, our experience was significantly impacted by noise during our stay. Our room faced East Bay Street, and each night we experienced constant loud traffic noise including cars with music, motorcycles, and vehicles revving engines late into the night. It made it very difficult to sleep and affected the quality of our stay. We brought this to the attention of the front desk during our stay and requested a room change, but none were available at the time. We were told we could move the following day, but the timing was not feasible with our plans. We also followed up with management after checkout, but have not received a response regarding any adjustment. We understand some level of city noise is expected in a downtown location, but the intensity and consistency each night went beyond what we anticipated. I travel frequently for work and have been exposed to many different hotel stays. We would have appreciated more support or flexibility in resolving the issue while we were on property. We are sharing this feedback in hopes that it’s helpful for future guests and also in hopes of a response from management regarding our experience.
Pros: 1. Location 2. Cleanliness 3. Large rooms and well designed 4. Easy to get to your room 5. Front lobby area and bar area are great 6. The bartender Manny is a must see. He makes stellar drinks 7. Easy parking (for a price) Cons: 1. Rooms can be a bit loud as the walls seem thin. Overall, great place with a great staff.
This is a tough review to write, due to the extreme differences between the quality of accommodation, breakfast, service, etc. Solely on accommodation quality, this hotel is 5 star. A great use of the original building features and good quality bedding/linens and room facilities. Unfortunately, other aspects of our stay were very disappointing. This started with breakfast. For an establishment of this quality/price, the offerings were VERY poor, much lower than you would find in a Holiday Inn EXPRESS ! When we arrived at 9am we saw a dried out bowl of oats, some mass produced boil in a bag egg type disk shaped ‘things’, some slices of what could only be described as hot dog meat, and the only bread selection was FOUR blueberry(I think) bagels. We were never greeted by a server, we were never offered a coffee from the espresso/latte machine(not self serve) and when we enquired about the lack of bread choice, a lady who brought food from the kitchen told us “that’s it, there’s no more, everything else is frozen”, before she turned around and walked away. We brought the breakfast situation to the attention of the person on the front desk, only to be presented with a less than friendly customer orientated reply, basically telling us, “that’s what’s available …. there’s more than one egg … and yes other bread is frozen” The lady who we’d discussed the bread situation with then appeared with bags of frozen bread options, along with a major attitude, and proceeded to slam the bags on the counter and re-fill the bread box, while telling everyone close to her …. “I told you they were still frozen”. She was obviously having a bad day. The front desk representative then did their best to ensure we didn’t communicate our dissatisfaction with the manager. However we did manage to find him and detail our breakfast experience. He apologized and stated he would compensate us for our experience. The compensation didn’t go smoothly (being DEBITED on our account rather than CREDITED) but eventually everything was resolved. I hope the hotel can learn from our experience and implement the necessary improvements, most importantly with the quality of breakfast and also with some staff training. As the hotel itself is excellent.
10/10- After reading the reviews it seems the hotel was renovated? Well, I think they did a fantastic job on it! We did a mini road trip and had stayed in Savannah right before this at a horrible hotel and we were truly looking for to checking into The Ansonborough. Upon our arrival they UPGRADED us to a suite which we didn’t know we actually needed. The hotel is great- coffee bar and everything. So so close to king & market st. This is where we will always stay when we revisit. Thanks for a great stay Ansonborough!
My wife and I are currently staying here at this hotel for the last 3 nights and I will highly recommend this stay. The facility is very chill and laid back. A quiet get away! Jennifer at the front desk has been amazing during our stay. She has gone out of her way to make sure our stay is memorable! Customer service and kindness is a lost art these days but she is a true artist. Great work and keep making people feel special and welcome during the stay. I cant remember the last travel I had where they knew our name and greeted us by name everytime we pass by. She is a 5 star in our eyes!
This hotel is fabulous! It's stylish and unique; a perfect location to historic downtown; the room was 10/10 for cleanliness, decor, and spaciousness; and the front desk staff are so nice. Plus you get a welcome cocktail and included hot breakfast. A+++
I had the absolute best stay at The Ansonborough for New Year’s. Even as a local, this felt like a true getaway. The room was incredibly comfortable, cozy, and spacious, everything you want when you’re downtown and want to relax at the end of the day. The atmosphere was welcoming and thoughtfully done, and the entire experience just felt easy and special. I enjoyed my stay so much that I honestly won’t stay anywhere else when coming downtown again. Highly recommend to locals and visitors alike.
My husband and I spent part of our honeymoon here so we decided to come back for our 10th anniversary .it was such a disappointment. We mentioned it was our anniversary at check in, but it went unnoticed. The hotel has been renovated and it was disappointing to say the least. All of the charm and quaintness is gone. We stayed in one of the suites but you couldn’t turn the tv so that you could watch it in bed. The room was large but with so much wasted space. We are elderly and did not need a peloton in the foyer. A tv and sofa would have been great or a chair for reading. Not a fan and unfortunately will not return. The bartender was very nice. If you ever stayed here before the renovation, don’t waste your money. You will be very disappointed imo.
We’re very familiar with the Ansonborough Inn because we have stayed there over 20 times. We haven’t been there for several years and we were disappointed with the renovations they’ve done. I’m sure they were trying to modernize the place, but it ended up not looking very good or being very functional. The charm of the hotel is the old wood heavy timbers three-story atrium the unique and unusual rooms. They modernized the entrance area and it doesn’t fit with the rest of the ambience. The breakfast dining room used to be very functional with multiple tables and a TV so you could catch the news while you’re having breakfast. They removed the TV and put in a lot of non-matching sofas and chairs that aren’t conducive to eating breakfast. There’s only one table that’s appropriate for eating breakfast with about six chairs so you need to share space with other families. They made the space smaller by closing off one corner as a “hidden“ poker room that’s very claustrophobic when you’re inside. My favorite thing was they used to leave a plate of delicious chocolate chip cookies out at night for a midnight snack, but that’s no longer being done. They also used to put wine out in the evening and serve cheese. Now they say they give you one free drink per person per day, but it’s kind of a joke because it doesn’t cover alcohol. Unfortunately I think we visited the Ansonborough for the last time.
