The Ansonborough offers a stylish and unique boutique hotel experience with a focus on personalized service and a welcoming atmosphere. Recent renovations have modernized the property, but some guests have expressed concerns regarding noise and the impact of changes to the original charm. Despite these issues, many rave about the location, friendly staff, and overall value.

10/10- After reading the reviews it seems the hotel was renovated? Well, I think they did a fantastic job on it! We did a mini road trip and had stayed in Savannah right before this at a horrible hotel and we were truly looking for to checking into The Ansonborough. Upon our arrival they UPGRADED us to a suite which we didn’t know we actually needed. The hotel is great- coffee bar and everything. So so close to king & market st. This is where we will always stay when we revisit. Thanks for a great stay Ansonborough!

My wife and I are currently staying here at this hotel for the last 3 nights and I will highly recommend this stay. The facility is very chill and laid back. A quiet get away! Jennifer at the front desk has been amazing during our stay. She has gone out of her way to make sure our stay is memorable! Customer service and kindness is a lost art these days but she is a true artist. Great work and keep making people feel special and welcome during the stay. I cant remember the last travel I had where they knew our name and greeted us by name everytime we pass by. She is a 5 star in our eyes!

This hotel is fabulous! It's stylish and unique; a perfect location to historic downtown; the room was 10/10 for cleanliness, decor, and spaciousness; and the front desk staff are so nice. Plus you get a welcome cocktail and included hot breakfast. A+++

I had the absolute best stay at The Ansonborough for New Year’s. Even as a local, this felt like a true getaway. The room was incredibly comfortable, cozy, and spacious, everything you want when you’re downtown and want to relax at the end of the day. The atmosphere was welcoming and thoughtfully done, and the entire experience just felt easy and special. I enjoyed my stay so much that I honestly won’t stay anywhere else when coming downtown again. Highly recommend to locals and visitors alike.

My husband and I spent part of our honeymoon here so we decided to come back for our 10th anniversary .it was such a disappointment. We mentioned it was our anniversary at check in, but it went unnoticed. The hotel has been renovated and it was disappointing to say the least. All of the charm and quaintness is gone. We stayed in one of the suites but you couldn’t turn the tv so that you could watch it in bed. The room was large but with so much wasted space. We are elderly and did not need a peloton in the foyer. A tv and sofa would have been great or a chair for reading. Not a fan and unfortunately will not return. The bartender was very nice. If you ever stayed here before the renovation, don’t waste your money. You will be very disappointed imo.

We’re very familiar with the Ansonborough Inn because we have stayed there over 20 times. We haven’t been there for several years and we were disappointed with the renovations they’ve done. I’m sure they were trying to modernize the place, but it ended up not looking very good or being very functional. The charm of the hotel is the old wood heavy timbers three-story atrium the unique and unusual rooms. They modernized the entrance area and it doesn’t fit with the rest of the ambience. The breakfast dining room used to be very functional with multiple tables and a TV so you could catch the news while you’re having breakfast. They removed the TV and put in a lot of non-matching sofas and chairs that aren’t conducive to eating breakfast. There’s only one table that’s appropriate for eating breakfast with about six chairs so you need to share space with other families. They made the space smaller by closing off one corner as a “hidden“ poker room that’s very claustrophobic when you’re inside. My favorite thing was they used to leave a plate of delicious chocolate chip cookies out at night for a midnight snack, but that’s no longer being done. They also used to put wine out in the evening and serve cheese. Now they say they give you one free drink per person per day, but it’s kind of a joke because it doesn’t cover alcohol. Unfortunately I think we visited the Ansonborough for the last time.

The aAnsonborough Inn is not your run-of-the-mill hotel. It has a boutique feel, and the rooms have a very thoughtful design. Depending on the day, the breakfasts consisted of eggs, sausages, fresh fruit, biscuits and gravy, etc. Tammy, who prepares all this delicious food, was an inviting hostess. The staff in general was was helpful and very accommodating. Well done all around!

Positive: Excellent location and spacious room. Both the hotel and the room are beautifully designed and spotlessly clean. The lady who sets up breakfast and the waitress at the bar were very pleasant. The reception staff less so. Negative: Unfortunately, the room had a strong gas-like odor, likely coming from the air conditioning or ventilation system. It was heavily masked with air freshener, which only made it worse. There’s no universe in which breathing that air was healthy. There was no way to air out the room—the only window was in the bedroom, wedged behind the bed. Even that window was dirty. For the price (around $700 per night), I would expect at least some basic amenities—body lotion, a shower cap, maybe a bathrobe or slippers—but there was nothing. Even the toilet paper was of cheap quality. The kitchenette had only a basic packet of coffee, no tea packets, water, or anything else. Breakfast was repetitive: the same limited selection every day—scrambled eggs, bread, occasionally bacon. It seems the owners spent heavily on renovations but decided to cut corners everywhere else. To make matters worse, it rained for two days with high tide, and the parking lot completely flooded—we barely managed to get the car out. The staff never warned guests about this or suggested parking elsewhere. Overall, a disappointing experience. Had I known, I would have chosen a different hotel.

This is the best value in Charleston! Rooms are more than spacious with quality amenities and great staff! This hotel is a just a little outside the center of everything, which adds to it being the best quiet space to stay. There weren’t crazy Bachelorette’s running around or families with kids in tow. It was low key with a small bar and well designed. The only, small item is that the hotel seems to have a humidity issue, most likely due to the older building and where it is located. It wouldn’t deter us from coming back. Less than 5 minute walk to 2 coffee shops and much more….

Beautiful hotel. It is an old building that has been renovated. Staff was friendly. My room was quite noisy. Across from a grocery store with deliveries mostly early am. Also, my room was near the rooftop terrace. People were there late and noisy. Still, I do recommend staying here.
