The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Charleston - Mount Pleasant consistently receives positive feedback for its friendly staff, comfortable rooms, and convenient location near Charleston and the beaches. However, recent reviews indicate a decline in property maintenance, breakfast quality, and the availability of amenities, impacting the overall guest experience.
We recently stayed here, I wanted to take a moment and express my sincere gratitude for the hospitality and customer service we received. Lamar was single handedly a bright spot during our vacation stay. He was extremely polite, professional, empathetic and accommodating to our needs. It’s not often you meet such a genuine person like Lamar and he is an amazing face to this company. What a blessing it is to have an employee like Lamar.
My husband and I have stayed at this hotel every year since 2018 because we enjoy visiting Charleston and the surrounding areas. When we first stayed here in 2018, the property appeared newly renovated, offered excellent value, and had a great location. Unfortunately, after my recent two-night stay with my mom and brother—who were visiting the area for the first time—I don’t think we’ll be returning. Over the years, the property’s overall quality has noticeably declined and no longer matches the experience we had during our first visit and previous years. Here are my observations from our recent stay: Pros 1. The staff was consistently kind, professional, and courteous. Everyone we interacted with—from the front desk to the breakfast staff and housekeeping—provided excellent customer service. 2. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. 3. The hotel was mostly quiet, making it easy to get a good night’s sleep. 4. The air conditioning worked very well. 5. The location is excellent. It’s close to the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, which is a great place for walking or exercising, and the nearby Mount Pleasant Pier is a beautiful spot to watch the sunset. 6. The hotel is about 10 minutes from downtown Charleston and less than 30 minutes from several popular beaches. Areas for Improvement 7. The bathrooms are showing their age. The shower could use updating, and the bathroom sink drained very slowly. 8. The water temperature was excessively hot. Even with the faucet adjusted, it was difficult to get cool water from either the shower or the sink, which was especially noticeable during the summer. 9. Previous amenities have been eliminated. The complimentary infused water station and cookies that were once available in the lobby are no longer offered. Bottled water is available for purchase at $3.50 for a small bottle. 10. While breakfast is still complimentary, the quality and variety have declined compared to previous years. Items such as orange juice, milk, and a wider selection of yogurts were no longer available. It is still adequate, but no longer a standout feature of the hotel. 11. Parking now costs $5 per night. The parking lot is spacious and convenient, so the fee itself wasn’t a major issue. 12. The electrical outlet serving the mini refrigerator and microwave was not working during our stay. Fortunately, we only had beverages stored in the refrigerator this time, but this could be a significant inconvenience for guests storing food or medications. Overall, the hotel’s location and staff remain its strongest assets. However, the decline in maintenance, amenities, and overall value compared to previous years makes it difficult for me to recommend it as highly as I once would have. The property would benefit from greater attention to operational management and routine maintenance to restore the level of quality and guest experience that made it such a great place to stay in the past. I hope management invests in these improvements, as this hotel has the potential to once again be an excellent choice for visitors to the Charleston area.
Wow... What a fantastic experience! While vacationing in Charleston, Mount pleasant, and the islands, I stayed at a handful of different hotels. And I can definitely tell you that if you are staying in Mount pleasant this is the best hotel in the area by far. I was checking in late and I had a couple of special requests and the concierge had no problem contacting the hotel manager, Miss Jennifer, and they were very accommodating and a pleasure to deal with. The rooms are spacious and clean, the breakfast was great and the coffee doesn't run out which is nice. The pool was well maintained and I could go on and on but you get the point. Definitely stay here if you plan to hotel in Mount pleasant
Very disappointing experience at this hotel. Prior to this location on this night, I had a positive opinion of the Holiday Inn brand and franchise. I hope this was a one off and doesn't reflect the brand as a whole. We opted for a King Bedroom Suite which came with a higher price tag. The price increased another 50% when they tacked on the "taxes and fees" not included in the advertised nightly rate. When you pay more, you expect more. After we arrived, the front desk clerk asked us if we had brought a car then charged us for parking. Then added a $50 "refundable" deposit for "incidentals." Won't know until the credit card bill arrives if it was refunded or not. At first glance the suite appeared very nice. Then I found trash in the windowsill in the living room and food in the sleeper sofa. The tv in the bedroom didn't work. Had to go to the front desk for a sheet for the sleeper sofa. Weird wiring set up. The switch for the bathroom light and fan didn't work consistently. I showered in the dark without the vent fan working. Inside the front door into the suite were two switches. One was labeled Master. If that switch was on, the bathroom switch seemed to work more consistently. I very much doubt thats up to code. When we returned to the hotel after supper another guest couldn't get the coffee dispensers in the lobby to work. We couldn't get either coffee maker to work the following day either. I asked the front desk for assistance thinking it was user error. He said they hadn't been working for several days. No one cared enough to either put an out of order sign on the machines or come up with a temporary solution until a permanent solution could be reached. Not only was there no coffee but breakfast was not available at the advertised time. We finally gave up and left in disgust.
I was very please with everything. The people at the front desk were helpful & friendly. I had a single large room with a king size bed. The shower was a walk in large one with fabulous water power! I would definitely stzy here again. Thank you.
The staff are very friendly and welcoming; delightful! I have found that the rooms at Holiday Inn Express hotels are always clean, which really matters to me. The beds were comfortable and our room was spacious with a small kitchenette (sink and cupboards). Holiday Inn Express did a great job adding the coffee machines with fresh ground and brewed coffee in the lobby 24 hrs. The one thing that was disappointing was the breakfast. I have stayed at many Holiday Inn Express hotels across the country and typically the breakfast is great. But this hotel was consistently out of food. We were there for four days and they were out of hard boiled eggs, yogurt, English muffins, and bananas on most days; and their signature cinnamon rolls were only offered one day of the four, and my husband I had to share one because that was all that they had left. If breakfast is offered from 6 to 9, then there should be plenty of food for all guests from 6-9. And it wasn’t even a matter of timing; my husband I were up early and leaving the hotel by 7 and still they didn’t have hard boiled eggs, yogurt, or cinnamon rolls. The breakfast staff were lovely people, though.
We were very disappointed with our stay at this hotel. One of the main reasons we chose it was the advertised “excellent breakfast” and especially the famous cinnamon rolls. Traveling with kids, breakfast was an important factor for us. Unfortunately, the reality was completely different. There was almost nothing available: no cinnamon rolls, no omelet, no boiled eggs, no bagels — just empty shelves. The staff simply apologized and said they had changed vendors and couldn’t do anything about it. No alternative or solution was offered. This is unacceptable, especially when such amenities are actively advertised. I absolutely do not recommend this place.
We had a wonderful stay at this Holiday Inn Express! The front desk staff was very accommodating and friendly. The room and beds were super comfortable. The highlight of the stay were the cinnamon rolls at breakfast! Don't skip the cinnamon rolls! Surprisingly yummy. The only thing we thought could use improvement was the cleanliness of the common areas (around and inside the elevators, etc.). It was not enough to deter us from staying again as the overall experience was very nice. Thanks Holiday Inn Express!
Overall, I had a good experience at the Holiday Inn & Suites in Mt. Pleasant, SC. The staff was friendly, the location was convenient, and the room was comfortable. The only issues I noticed were that the couch in my room had several visible stains, and the carpet didn’t appear to be vacuumed during cleaning. Aside from those housekeeping details, everything else went well, and I enjoyed my stay. With a bit more attention to room cleanliness, this would be an excellent place to stay.
Traveling for work can be a hassle but the holiday inn express & suites always makes us feel welcome. They have a very courteous and welcoming assistant at the front. The check in is always easy and fast especially after being on the road for so long I just want to get in my room. Everything was good the only reason for the 4 star is because my room AC had a smell like mildew or wet carpet, I was able to spray some air freshener but I had to spray it a lot in the process of the night. Other than that I had a decent stay.
