Recent reviews of the Fairfield Inn & Suites Charleston University/Trident Area reveal a mixed experience, with significant issues surrounding check-in problems and lost items leading to considerable frustration and a lack of responsiveness from hotel staff. While some guests praised the friendly service and breakfast, other concerns relate to facility maintenance, particularly the gym and elevator, and the inconsistent functionality of the A/C system.
I've stayed here before and had a much better experience. The system was down at check in so we had to be escorted to our room all night and I never received keys because the key machine was still down at checkout. My first room the heat didn't work, and my second room the curtain was hanging on the floor and the rod was on the floor as well. Shauna was totally overwhelmed being by herself with all the issues at the end of the day this was a very disappointing experience and quite stressful. I'm a Marriott loyalists when I travel so I have a lot of experience with the brand. Temporary keys s/h been available to your front office staff.
Not sure how other hotels do this, but my wife is in the ICU at Trident Medical Center. My family stayed there until 4:00am and went to this hotel location to get a room but apparently they do not provide service to “walk ins” after hours. This hotel is literally 4 minutes from the hospital! I understand if the rooms are full but the parking lot was a ghost town!
I may have scored this location higher if it were not for the fact of my post stay experience. This location was recommended by an employee, a friend of my daughter's girlfriend who insisted we did not stay at the other location we had originally chosen to stay at while on our vacation in Charleston. The hot breakfast served every morning was top of the line and the ladies who helped serve it and stock it more than pleasant. I stayed in an ADA accessible room and did not seem to have too much trouble getting around in it. My only issue came when I realized after checking out on the first leg of our flight back home that I had left my medical back brace in the room. I contacted the location immediately but seemed to received runaround for an entire week only to be finally told that my brace could not be located. The way my situation regarding my lost item was handled. Left a very sour taste in my mouth and made me disheartened about my entire stay there at their location. Every person I spoke to was either misinformed or misled me to believe my situation was being handled by the appropriate people only to find out that even the GM was not aware of my week-long search for my missing item. The left hand clearly did not know what the right hand was doing and passing the book seemed to be the favorite pastime of every person I spoke to. Even though promised return phone calls, I had to call the facility daily to try to get through to the right people only to be pushed off to the next day.
So I'll tryband make this short I've been going non stop sense the 30 of Oct a trip 2 NY (oct30-nov3) with a total of 4 flights then straight back in to work then my beautiful gf flying down from NY on the 7th and sisters wedding on the 9th then still no stopping till the 16 well needless to say I had found my self in need of a place to stay for 3 days I think it was and at this point I was tired worn out emotionally and physically but Mrs Shanna was there that night on the 10th I believe and was just so friendly and nice understanding and just genuinely kind in a moment when I was in need of it. And then if that wasn't enough I got to meet 2 more lovely ladies Mrs Kat who was just so sweet and was willing to have a conversation with me and give me her ear at atime I didn't no i needed it took some stress away . And then finally Mrs Mami she to was just sweet and was fun to talk with super easy to talk to and ask questions. Even the cleaning lady alought I didn't get to speak to her much was really sweet and always spoke back I even got to see her interact with a older lady and she was sooooo nice and sweet with her.... over all ladies thank you sooo very much for stay I truly don't think could of got much better this is yalls room 126 ? Than you ??
Overall the stay here was good, front desk staff were overall helpful and kind. I really enjoyed the pool and the breakfast in the morning. The hotel is close to plenty of things (CVS, Starbucks, waffle house.) Plenty of places like that within walking distance if you want a quick bite or need to grab something. My room was cleaned and made up almost everyday during my stay, which was really nice after a long day of work to come back to my room and have fresh towels and sheets. The hotel was quiet for the most part, no complaints on noise or unruly guests. The two complaints I have are the gym and the elevator. The size of the gym. I would of really appreciated if the gym was bigger. The gym has two treadmills, one bench an eleptical and a small area for weights. The gym is so tiny and cramped you really cannot have more than one person in there at a time. Also, there feels like there isn't any airflow in the gym. The air feels hot and stale. The elevator was so slow, and I felt like I was going to be trapped inside, so I just used the stairs, which is fine, extra excercise is good! Just be wary of the elevator, it made me nervous.
We stayed here for two nights visiting family. The rooms were exceptional and the service even better. Miss Sheryl the breakfast attendant was so upbeat and kind. Staff at the front desk were also terrific. I highly recommend.
The room is adequate and nice, the bed is hard. The bathroom is nice with a really nice shower. The breakfast was just ok can't mess up waffle maker. The front desk all 3 shifts were really nice a approachable. The staff was all very nice and friendly. There is a trick I do for hard beds so this might be a hotel to stay at when I return.
It is a Fairfield (a 2 star hotel). For what it is, it was good. The hottub and the pool in the back, while small were clean and well kept up. The breakfast was fine. The rooms were quiet; only issue is the morning noise from the street and the A/C. While there is a thermostat that is supposed to control the A/C, it didn't really work well. The A/C unit has its own temp and fan control. Once we figured that out, we set the temp and fan there and it was fine; the previous night the room got quite muggy.
We stayed at this property May 28, 2025. Front desk service was very good, but they were unable to suggest an upscale restaurant other than the usual chains. They did give me a list of restaurants in the area. Staff did adjust my checkout time because of my elite status. They also gave us complimentary bottled waters. Overall, the property was clean, but the elevator and outside the elevator on the third floor had a spill that was not picked up until morning of the next day. Our room was clean and stocked with towels, but the shower had no body wash, which I failed to discover until I began showering. Shower door very difficult to slide. Breakfast was OK and the coffee very good. Oatmeal was runny and starchy. Ms Sheryl, the Breakfast attendant, was excellent and very helpful! The workout room was functional, but had no wipes to clean equipment after use. Filtered water was good and chilled. The treadmill worked well. I rate the property a "B" due to the above concerns, but the staff overall gets an "A" . Free parking available on site and Starbucks is within walking distance.
