The Residence Inn Charleston North/Ashley Phosphate receives mixed reviews, with some guests praising the comfortable rooms and friendly staff, while others report significant issues with cleanliness, pest infestations (bed bugs), poor service, and concerning location issues such as homeless activity and lack of hot water. While there are positive comments about the included breakfast and some staff members, consistent maintenance problems and a lack of responsiveness from management are prevalent concerns.
I stayed in room 304 for a week. Staff was cool and friendly. Laundry rm was hot but we kept the door open. My rm door was messed up and hard to open! I had to shoulder check to enter. The first couple days I noticed small mosquitoes flying around, by the last 2 days they were so overwhelming that I went to the store and bought so spray to kill em. Next was the bite marks on my arm from BED BUGS!! I didnt notice them until day 5/6. I only had room service change my sheets once on day 4. Although this sounds bad I enjoyed my stay but next time I'll ask to switch rms
OK, I’ve traveled everywhere and when I mean everywhere, I mean all the way up the Pacific coast into Portland. I’ve been to Spain, Edinburgh, Scotland, London, Paris Portugal. I’ve been across many cities in the south, as well as Washington DC, Wisconsin and New York. When I tell you staying here was one of my most favorite experiences, I mean it. It’s largely due to the staff as well as how nice the rooms were and how great the breakfast is. Is it in the best area? No but I always felt really good returning back to the hotel knowing that they were going to be freshly baked cookies and a smiling face. Shout out to Marva! If you stay there, I hope you get promoted. Because I feel like your potential is definitely being wasted. I was at another place out in Mount Pleasant and it was not nearly as nice. If you’re OK with the location, this is definitely great for an extended stay.
I paid 450 for 3 days. I came down at 9 AM on Friday and asked if somebody could make my bed and give me fresh towels since I had already been there two days. Diamond, the front desk woman said no they don’t do that on Fridays. But they could come up and drop off some fresh towels. I asked who turns over the rooms when they have checkouts on those days in which housekeeping is allegedly not there. She couldn’t answer that question. I wasn’t asking her to hang the moon. I simply just wanted fresh towels and my bed made. I come back to the hotel at about 2 PM and there are no fresh towels and my bed isn’t made. I go downstairs and ask and she said there was a sign on my door saying not to come in. There was no sign on my door. She was extremely rude and gave me an attitude when I was explaining to the head of housekeeping sitting next to her what this woman had said to me earlier about not wanting to make my bed. Diamond gives me fresh towels and I go back upstairs about an hour later two housekeepers knock on my door with fresh towels. The same housekeepers that diamond said weren’t there on that day. Telling a guest no we don’t make beds on Friday's but we can give you fresh towels after paying almost $500 to stay there is absolutely absurd. The disrespect is unremarkable.
A little hard to get to, but what a beautiful room! I will say that there was a Febreze plug-in behind the couch that we didn’t know about for about a day of our stay. It made the room smell terribly perfume me which is, to me, disgusting. When my husband finally discovered it, and we unplugged it, the room smelled fine. The front desk staff was amazing and they even gave me something to eat for breakfast because we left really early on the day of our departure.
We stayed at the Residence Inn in North Charleston this past weekend, and unfortunately, the experience at the hotel was very disappointing. We arrived early and went to check in, but before even asking for our name or reservation, the front desk associate told us that no rooms were ready and to come back later. We were fine with that, but the interaction felt dismissive and unprofessional. She also had her child sitting at the front desk during the interaction, which didn’t create a great first impression. When we returned later that evening after dinner, we got to our room and tried to shower—but there was no hot water at all. I called the front desk and was told that since no one had stayed in that room for a few days, we needed to run the water for 20–30 minutes to get it warm. That response was surprising and frustrating. After a full day of travel, the last thing you want is to wait that long just to take a shower. Overall, this did not feel like the level of service or experience you would expect from a hotel in this category. There’s definitely room for improvement in both customer service and basic room readiness.
STAY AWAY I’ve been a Marriott Bonvoy member since 2012. This was stay #611. At 11:12 PM, I called the front desk to ask for help. Before I could finish my sentence, I was told “no.” I was asked to call back in 30 minutes because there were “five customers waiting.” I called back. I explained the room next to mine was playing loud music and I couldn’t sleep. I didn’t know the room number — just that it was to my right. I was told to leave my room and find the number myself. When I asked if she could check the floor plan, she said no. When I asked if she was really asking a guest to go hallway-hunting at 11 PM, she said: “If you’re complaining, yes.” The call ended abruptly. A follow-up call went unanswered. Noise happens. That’s not the issue. The issue is this: loyalty is built on moments when something goes wrong — and someone says, “I’ve got this.” Tonight, no one did.
In general, the hotel is very nice, I stayed in a 1 bedroom suite, a very large and comfortable room, the breakfast is very ordinary, nothing special. One problem , I don't know why , there is no hot water as such , the water is warm , and you have to wait ten minutes for it to flow , at first it flows very cold . But in general, the hotel is good.
Marriott is always my go-to when traveling for work, which makes this stay especially disappointing. The hallways and my room both smell strongly of smoke. Showering has been a nightmare — the water fluctuates between scalding hot and ice cold with no ability to properly adjust it. To make matters worse, the system was down, so guests couldn’t even purchase water. As a Platinum Elite member, I expected better accommodation. Instead, I was asked to return the two water bottles and had to drive to a gas station at midnight just to get some water when they had tons there. This experience has been incredibly frustrating and far below the standard I expect from Marriott
I travel every week for work and try to only stay at Marriott locations as it’s always been my go to. This location has nice staff and a cool lobby I guess but that’s about it. I’ve been here for 2 nights so far and every day and night the hallway smelled like straight cigarettes, my shower goes from hot to ice cold and back to hot, each time I left the building there was a crack head or homeless person(s) waiting to get inside (all doors including front need a guest key to enter) which I don’t mind the doors being locked. I park near the side enternece because my room is near it but every night there’s about 5-6 clearly homeless people loitering next to my car. It’s not a huge problem for me as a man but if my wife were to be here on her own then I’d be worried constantly. I got the king and sofa bed room which is nice with the tiny kitchen but I get a TV with a remote that barely works and a couch that feels like I’m sitting on latex. If you have the choice to stay at any of the locations in Summerville or down towards Charleston I’d say take the longer commute over this location.
We are staying right now at Rm.314. We checked in yesterday. I reported this morning that our tv in our bedroom and the telephone in the living room and bedroom not working. I also requested a late check out 1230p since their regular check out time is 12noon. The front lady is not pleasant to talk with and rushing as she said having a customer upfront. Thinking we are also a guest. She said will send a maintenance but never heard but its okay since we are checking out in a few. My daughter and I went down for breakfast afterwards and the food are terrible and service. The kitchen person just on his phone or go out and smoke not refilling anything. The waffle machine is on but when my daughter ask he said no more batter and its only 9am. Breakfast ended 10am. The kitchen guy looked at me the entire time staring and stood on the corner looking maliciously several times until I asked him about what he is doing. He literally laughed after his attention being called for being rude. At the hallway beside our room smells Marijuana. DISAPPOINTED. Do not stay in this hotel.
