Guests consistently report issues with inconsistent hot water, unhelpful front desk staff, and a generally rundown property. Concerns regarding cleanliness, maintenance, and uncomfortable rooms, coupled with safety concerns related to the surrounding area, significantly detract from the overall experience. Despite some positive feedback on staff friendliness, the hotel’s core issues require immediate attention.

We stayed at the Residence Inn in North Charleston this past weekend, and unfortunately, the experience at the hotel was very disappointing. We arrived early and went to check in, but before even asking for our name or reservation, the front desk associate told us that no rooms were ready and to come back later. We were fine with that, but the interaction felt dismissive and unprofessional. She also had her child sitting at the front desk during the interaction, which didn’t create a great first impression. When we returned later that evening after dinner, we got to our room and tried to shower—but there was no hot water at all. I called the front desk and was told that since no one had stayed in that room for a few days, we needed to run the water for 20–30 minutes to get it warm. That response was surprising and frustrating. After a full day of travel, the last thing you want is to wait that long just to take a shower. Overall, this did not feel like the level of service or experience you would expect from a hotel in this category. There’s definitely room for improvement in both customer service and basic room readiness.

STAY AWAY I’ve been a Marriott Bonvoy member since 2012. This was stay #611. At 11:12 PM, I called the front desk to ask for help. Before I could finish my sentence, I was told “no.” I was asked to call back in 30 minutes because there were “five customers waiting.” I called back. I explained the room next to mine was playing loud music and I couldn’t sleep. I didn’t know the room number — just that it was to my right. I was told to leave my room and find the number myself. When I asked if she could check the floor plan, she said no. When I asked if she was really asking a guest to go hallway-hunting at 11 PM, she said: “If you’re complaining, yes.” The call ended abruptly. A follow-up call went unanswered. Noise happens. That’s not the issue. The issue is this: loyalty is built on moments when something goes wrong — and someone says, “I’ve got this.” Tonight, no one did.

In general, the hotel is very nice, I stayed in a 1 bedroom suite, a very large and comfortable room, the breakfast is very ordinary, nothing special. One problem , I don't know why , there is no hot water as such , the water is warm , and you have to wait ten minutes for it to flow , at first it flows very cold . But in general, the hotel is good.

Marriott is always my go-to when traveling for work, which makes this stay especially disappointing. The hallways and my room both smell strongly of smoke. Showering has been a nightmare — the water fluctuates between scalding hot and ice cold with no ability to properly adjust it. To make matters worse, the system was down, so guests couldn’t even purchase water. As a Platinum Elite member, I expected better accommodation. Instead, I was asked to return the two water bottles and had to drive to a gas station at midnight just to get some water when they had tons there. This experience has been incredibly frustrating and far below the standard I expect from Marriott

I travel every week for work and try to only stay at Marriott locations as it’s always been my go to. This location has nice staff and a cool lobby I guess but that’s about it. I’ve been here for 2 nights so far and every day and night the hallway smelled like straight cigarettes, my shower goes from hot to ice cold and back to hot, each time I left the building there was a crack head or homeless person(s) waiting to get inside (all doors including front need a guest key to enter) which I don’t mind the doors being locked. I park near the side enternece because my room is near it but every night there’s about 5-6 clearly homeless people loitering next to my car. It’s not a huge problem for me as a man but if my wife were to be here on her own then I’d be worried constantly. I got the king and sofa bed room which is nice with the tiny kitchen but I get a TV with a remote that barely works and a couch that feels like I’m sitting on latex. If you have the choice to stay at any of the locations in Summerville or down towards Charleston I’d say take the longer commute over this location.

We are staying right now at Rm.314. We checked in yesterday. I reported this morning that our tv in our bedroom and the telephone in the living room and bedroom not working. I also requested a late check out 1230p since their regular check out time is 12noon. The front lady is not pleasant to talk with and rushing as she said having a customer upfront. Thinking we are also a guest. She said will send a maintenance but never heard but its okay since we are checking out in a few. My daughter and I went down for breakfast afterwards and the food are terrible and service. The kitchen person just on his phone or go out and smoke not refilling anything. The waffle machine is on but when my daughter ask he said no more batter and its only 9am. Breakfast ended 10am. The kitchen guy looked at me the entire time staring and stood on the corner looking maliciously several times until I asked him about what he is doing. He literally laughed after his attention being called for being rude. At the hallway beside our room smells Marijuana. DISAPPOINTED. Do not stay in this hotel.

I've contacted Marriott by email advising them that the room that I stayed in had mold in the bathroom. They promised to have someone reach out to me that was over 2 months ago. I sent pictures and a video and still no response.

First off I stay in Marriott’s a lot. All the staff at this location are 5 stars. My only complaint was room 226 smelled of pet urine so bad. They were nice about moving me. The staff was amazing. The new room was nice and quiet and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was great.

Hotel located next to another hotel that house a ton of homeless people and people sit in the parking lot and do drugs and beg for money. Hotel didn’t smell great but room was nice and breakfast was ok. Trash scattered all in parking lot and lots of homeless pushing carts in parking lot while doing drugs.

We stayed here for 3 weeks. It's a 4 floor hotel with 2 elevators. We changed rooms from the 2nd floor to the 4th floor because the room above us had children who jumped up & down & bounced a ball until after midnight. Only 1 elevator worked the whole time we were there. On the day we left, both elevators didn't work. According to building codes this was a fine violation. I am disabled & my husband had to carry all our luggage down the stairs. He asked if anyone could help us, but the man on duty said "we don't offer that service". When I was trying to go down 4 floors of stairs, the young lady working at the front asked if we needed help. By then, it was too late. There were many homeless people around the hotel & some were able to get in & take food from the complimentary breakfast. My husband had to tell the front desk. The man working the front desk the morning we left was very rude to me when I tried to express our concerns. He refused to let my husband & I speak with the Manager. Only the young lady was friendly to our needs. I would not recommend this location because of these reasons.
