The John Rutledge House Inn consistently receives high praise for its beautiful historic setting, exceptional service, and delicious offerings like breakfast and afternoon tea. Guests rave about the convenience of the location and the comfort of the well-appointed rooms, solidifying it as a memorable Charleston experience.
????? Five Stars All the Way! Our family had a wonderful stay at the John Rutledge House Inn. The property is absolutely beautiful, full of history, and exceptionally clean. Our rooms were outstanding and very comfortable. Bryan and Natalie were fantastic—welcoming, helpful, and went above and beyond throughout our stay. We especially enjoyed hearing the history of the house from them. The breakfast was excellent, and afternoon tea with snacks was a really nice touch that our family enjoyed. The combination of a beautiful historic property, great food, spotless rooms, and exceptional hospitality made this a truly memorable stay. We highly recommend the John Rutledge House Inn and will absolutely stay here again when we return to Charleston!
We stayed just one night, but what a great experience it was. Room 8 was well-decorated with a comfortable, canopied bed. The bathroom was not enormous, but sufficient in size, and the shower had excellent water pressure. The staff members were 10/10, as far as hotel staff are concerned. They were each personable and helpful, providing info about amenities, dining, and the local area. They had an afternoon tea with snacks prepared by their sister restaurant Circa 1886. Those snacks were amazing, so don't miss out! Strangely, the afternoon tea did not include hot tea, but the iced tea was just fine considering it was nearly 100 outside! Breakfast was plentiful and we were given the option of where/when we wanted to have it; we chose the room. Parking was strange to get to and not intuitive. However, the staff will provide printed directions upon check-in. We parked at the bishops house next door while checking in. Very cool house and a great experience overall. Conveniently located in downtown Charleston.
We absolutely loved our stay here. The location is great and very walkable. The rooms are well appointed. However, what really sets the Inn apart is the service, which is very friendly and charming. The drawing room and especially the balcony is a great place to relax and have afternoon tea or port. I hope to return to Charleston and if I do, I will stay here.
My husband and I stayed here for a relaxing getaway and had the absolute best time. The Inn is beautifully maintained, and the rooms are both charming and impeccably kept. Every staff member we encountered was incredibly kind and genuinely interested in making our stay special, which made such a difference. The breakfast was outstanding. I eat gluten-free, and they were exceptionally accommodating with a great variety of options each day, and I especially loved the gluten-free English muffins. They were very careful with gluten-free preparation, while my husband was still able to fully enjoy all of the regular offerings. The location is perfect, right in the heart of a historic district and within walking distance to so much. We didn’t bring a car and were able to walk everywhere during our stay, which we loved. We also visited their sister restaurant, Circa 1886, and the food and service there were just as amazing. We would absolutely return and highly recommend this Inn to anyone looking for a special and relaxing getaway.
Stayed at The John Rutledge House for two nights while touring Charleston with our family of 4. The inn does an amazing job retaining the historic feel of the building while also offering the comforts of a modern hotel. My nine year olds loved the experience of staying at a building that is part of history and thought afternoon tea was the best thing ever. The staff was also outstanding with everyone being welcoming and helpful without exception.
Stayed here two times, won't be the last. This is my favorite place to stay when in Charleston. Perfect blend of history and luxury. Comfortable, classy rooms. Delicious breakfasts. LOVE IT HERE! Special thanks to Jim who was very informative and friendly. Helped make it a great experience.
Absolutely perfect in every way. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The afternoon tea is lovely with delicious pastries and served on china. The breakfast is amazing with so many choices, and delivered whenever you ask. Again, served on china, either to your room, the ballroom, or the patio. The location is in the French Quarter which makes it convenient to walk to so many historical sites and restaurants. Go; you won’t be disappointed.
Nice place, although I was hoping to see more of the house… but I guess it’s all been turned into guest rooms except the smallish ball room where you can have breakfast. The Carriage house we stayed at could have been any hotel room once you close the door. They put in steps to get into bed which are ridiculously too tall and unnecessary. TV was blurry and picture was not matched to the screen. The garden was lovely. The house very pretty. I have service a little low because the concierge could not be understood and he speaks well just too soft.
This is a great place to stay in Charleston. My wife and I had the pleasure of visiting for a long weekend and we would not hesitate to return. It has a great location, a very helpful and accommodating staff, and the hotel is of course beautiful. While it is historic, the rooms are comfortable with sufficient modern amenities.
Awesome experience! Great value and amenities for price. The breakfast was delicious and great variety of menu options and delivery times and locations made for a very comfortable morning. The rooms are beautiful and very clean and comfortable, great mattress and great AC/Heat for each. Parking is on the property which makes the Inn an excellent place to enjoy walking to and from several restaurants/bars/historic properties. Full time concierge is also a bonus. We will be back!
