The John Rutledge House Inn is a highly-rated historic inn in Charleston’s French Quarter, consistently praised for its beautiful restoration, exceptional service, and convenient location. Guests rave about the delicious breakfasts, afternoon tea, and overall luxurious experience, making it a favorite for returning visitors.
Stayed here two times, won't be the last. This is my favorite place to stay when in Charleston. Perfect blend of history and luxury. Comfortable, classy rooms. Delicious breakfasts. LOVE IT HERE! Special thanks to Jim who was very informative and friendly. Helped make it a great experience.
Absolutely perfect in every way. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The afternoon tea is lovely with delicious pastries and served on china. The breakfast is amazing with so many choices, and delivered whenever you ask. Again, served on china, either to your room, the ballroom, or the patio. The location is in the French Quarter which makes it convenient to walk to so many historical sites and restaurants. Go; you won’t be disappointed.
Nice place, although I was hoping to see more of the house… but I guess it’s all been turned into guest rooms except the smallish ball room where you can have breakfast. The Carriage house we stayed at could have been any hotel room once you close the door. They put in steps to get into bed which are ridiculously too tall and unnecessary. TV was blurry and picture was not matched to the screen. The garden was lovely. The house very pretty. I have service a little low because the concierge could not be understood and he speaks well just too soft.
This is a great place to stay in Charleston. My wife and I had the pleasure of visiting for a long weekend and we would not hesitate to return. It has a great location, a very helpful and accommodating staff, and the hotel is of course beautiful. While it is historic, the rooms are comfortable with sufficient modern amenities.
Awesome experience! Great value and amenities for price. The breakfast was delicious and great variety of menu options and delivery times and locations made for a very comfortable morning. The rooms are beautiful and very clean and comfortable, great mattress and great AC/Heat for each. Parking is on the property which makes the Inn an excellent place to enjoy walking to and from several restaurants/bars/historic properties. Full time concierge is also a bonus. We will be back!
Wonderful location! Easy walk to so many places. Historical house has been beautifully restored. Great service and delicious hot breakfast each morning. We've stayed here on two occasions and would gladly do so again!
We spent 3 nights in Oct 2025 and it was fabulous! The house is so impressive, service is wonderful and our room exceeded our expectations. We loved the option of a night cap in the ball room, it made everything feel so immersive and elegant. Would stay again in a heartbeat and recommend to friends and family. Thanks for a great stay!
My husband and I stayed at John Rutledge House Inn for our first wedding anniversary. We had a lovely time! The staff were so friendly and provided lots of recommendations. Breakfast was delicious and we loved the option to eat in the courtyard. Afternoon tea was a delight! The pastries come from Circa located at their sister property, Wentworth Mansion, and were incredible! The location is hard to beat as well. We walked all over the city. We had a car and parking was easy. It gave us more flexibility during our visit. I highly recommend a stay at John Rutledge House Inn. You will not be disappointed!
We loved our stay at this historical B&B! Perfect location, walkable to everything. Rooms were so comfortable and clean. Service was top notch. Greatly enjoyed our breakfast and afternoon tea! A truly relaxing stay. We will return!
Very excited for a return trip here! John at the front desk was so very kind and helpful in booking my upcoming stay. The last time I was at John Rutledge was over the summer and the room was great, along with the service and breakfast. It was easy to come and go at any time and the location made walking to restaurants, shops, and activities a breeze. The room was clean and well-kept, and I had a good night's sleep. Would highly recommend!
