The Fairfield Inn & Suites Charleston Airport/Convention Center receives mixed reviews, with a strong emphasis on exceptional customer service and a welcoming atmosphere. Recent feedback highlights both positive experiences centered around staff kindness and cleanliness, alongside concerns regarding outdated rooms, limited amenities, and a frustrating lack of late check-out options. While valued for its convenience and proximity to the airport, improvements are needed to address room quality and service consistency.
Platinums, titaniums and ambassadors, you should know that your status perks are no good here. Couldn't get even a minute of a late check out on a Wednesday. "We don't do late check outs anymore". And next to an airport?? What if you have a flight at 4 and want to check out at 2? Totally ridiculous for a low level fairfield. Also this is after i stood at the front desk for almost 10 min, with two employees standing there and not acknowledging me before walking away. Finally who I'm assuming was the manager came up and told me no with no sympathy. Ok cool, will be in Charleston several times again soon. Note to self to skip this hotel.
Rooms need upgrading. Paint around windows are peeling. The mattress appeared to be old with flattened areas on both sides where people have laid and very uncomfortable. After spending the night sleeping on the mattress, my husband and I had a stiff back and much pain. Even the pillows were bumpy and old. Not sure if every room has these old mattresses but ours was horrible. Breakfast was good with a nice variety. The front desk clerk when we arrived in the afternoon was a lovely, polite and helpful young lady. Small gym available. Lobby was neat and clean.
I don’t write a lot of hotel reviews, but this one deserves it. I ended up here because my flight back to New Jersey got canceled due to the blizzard, so I'll be here three night total, two so far. I originally chose this Fairfield because the ratings were strong. After staying here, I get why. In 25 years of business travel, this has honestly been one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had and it’s 100% because of the people. Serena at the front desk (the Front Desk Manager) is outstanding. Professional, calm, welcoming and went out of her way to help me when I was having an internet issue. Problem solved. You can just tell she cares. Mel, the Food & Beverage Manager, is one of the sweetest, most genuine people I’ve met in hospitality. Even the housekeeping staff in normal hallway conversations have been warm and engaging. There’s something different about this team. It doesn’t feel transactional. It feels like they actually want you to have a good stay. The hotel is very clean. The breakfast area is spotless every morning. Everything runs the way it should. But what really stands out is the culture here. So rare. I even witnessed the staff engaging with what seemed to be regulars and it seemed like a family reunion when they checked in between staff and hotel guests. Being stranded because of weather isn’t ideal but this group made it a genuinely positive experience. If I’m ever in Charleston again, I won’t even look anywhere else. This is a special team, and it shows. Thank you!
Overall good experience except for me and a few other guests got yelled at for being by the pool after hours. At 11 but we should never have any employees yelling at any guests there are more diplomatic ways of going about such measures.
I stayed there for one night because my flight was canceled. The rooms are fine and the staff was nice. Since my replacement flight wasn't scheduled until the afternoon, I was looking forward to a quiet and decent breakfast after the stress of the previous day. Breakfast = disastrous I'm really not picky, but the selection was more than modest, actually poor! The scrambled eggs had the consistency of rubber, the rest was indefinable, but everything tasted terrible. Nothing fresh, there was a banana and two apples, no vegetables, ... nothing. I tried everything, but it all ended up in the trash can... It's a shame about the food, but I could hardly stomach it. And the whole thing was served on paper plates with plastic cutlery and paper cups... well, at least it matched the ambiance. Really unloving and old, but with leftovers from the people who had sat at the table before. I went straight to the airport and had breakfast there.
We were placed at this hotel after our flight was canceled. The lady at the front desk was very nice & still had a smile even after dealing with all the grumpy people from our flight. Super helpful, even got us matched up with a place to eat. The breakfast was nice also. The next day the staff was so kind while we hung out in the breakfast room working waiting for our next flight.
Although the Fairfield Inn part of the Marriott chain is not seeming to have as many amenities, what was most importan to us is that it was clean. There was an online review a week prior that was That concerning, but we have had nothing but a good stay with friendly staff, and exceptional breakfast service with James at the helm. He really should be commended for being so genuinely helpful and customer service oriented. He’s an example of someone that truly takes pride in his job. The gym had enough for a decent workout, but an exercise ball would be a nice inexpensive addition. The location is walkable to several restaurants as well as being super close to the Tanger outlets, which had a nice variety of stores for the true Charleston experience. It’s worth a drive or Uber into historic downtown.
Both myself and my Co worker got Bed bugs after we stayed here on the 1st floor. I called the hotel to report it and I was told the manager would call me back, nobody ever called me back. Me being a Platinum Elite member this is a for sure sign this Marriott location does not care about the well being, or health of their guests. I feel like they likely never took any action to address the issue, and likely more people have been affected. I used to really enjoy this location, as I have stayed there several times. I will NEVER stay there again. Until management cleans this place up, I would hope that whomever reads these reviews chooses to make the same choice to not stay here.
Excellent service and rooms, absolutely no complaints. The fitness room isn't the worst I've ever seen but dear god it needs an AC or fan or something. Also a couple DBs heavier than 45lbs would be cool. Would stay again.
I enjoyed my stay here. The hotel was immaculate from the front door to the back door. My room was cleaned to perfection and the front desk representative was friendly both at check-in and checking out. The breakfast was amazing, Mel was our cook and she was outstanding. Very patient and friendly, there was also an awesome gentleman working in the kitchen. Thank you for serving a delicious breakfast fit for King's and Queens.
