The Hyatt House Charleston/Mount Pleasant receives mixed reviews, with some guests praising cleanliness, location, and breakfast, while others express concerns regarding inconsistent service, cleanliness issues (including mold and strong odors), and unexpected fees. Recent stays have shown declining service quality and issues with housekeeping responsiveness.
After requesting an early check in, and arriving 15 minutes prior to the requested check in time. I was informed that the room was not ready. This is understandable, early check-in is a when available service. I was informed that room was being cleaned and would be available soon. One hour later I checked on the progress, the room was still being cleaned, another hour later the room was still being cleaned. 30 minutes later I requested the manager and was informed that the prior guests had requested a 2 PM departure and that servicing of the room had not begun until close to 3 PM. I am thankful that I only stay with Hyatt a few weeks a year and that alternative lodging is available.
I stayed here because this is where my job paid for us to stay. We checked in 2/24/2026 and checked out 3/17/2026. When we arrived the rooms were what I would consider small for a Suite. The room was clean. With the contract we had, our rooms would be cleaned twice a week. Monday and Thursday. The cleanings started off great, then went down to the bare minimum. Not being swept, or mopped. The counters were not always wiped down and the bathroom, sink/counters not cleaned. I am not sure if they ended up short staffed or what. The hotel was accommodating with breakfast. They usually serve at 0600 but adjusted it to 0530 for us. Which I know we all greatly appreciated. The front desk staff(not all but most) was typically in their phones when walking in, not looking up or speaking. GiGi (not sure of the spelling) was the BEST front desk staff they had. She has an amazing energy about her. GiGi didn't mind answering questions or helping in any way, shape or form. She remained that way from the beginning to the end of our stay. When you asked the others, there was typically a response like you were bothering them as if they were not at work. Based off my experience, I would not stay here and spend my own money.
We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Everything was clean and well-maintained, and the service was friendly and professional. The atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming. I would happily stay here again
I should’ve stayed at my favorite SpringHill hotel ?. I deeply regret my decision to try a new hotel in Charleston. Hyatt was an absolute disappointment: - black mold in the shower - the shower was leaking (safety issue!) - there is a very strong fragrance in the room (we could also smell it in the lobby). It felt like the hotel was trying to cover up another odor. The fragrance gave me a headache. - there was carpet on the floor in the room - why? Just why? It’s never clean! - stained carpet and bed linens - horrible outdated interior design with gloomy, depressing colors. I’ll stay as far away from Hyatt as possible.
First time staying @ this Hyatt House location. In Hyatt fashion, the rooms were clean & everything went smoothly, from check-in to check-out. A fantastic breakfast buffet spread every morning. Shout out to AJ handling the breakfast buffet who went above and beyond to make me some fresh potatoes. Very nice staff and a very hospitable stay.
Our stay at this hotel was so nice! The rooms were immaculately clean, and the staff was incredibly kind and helpful. Breakfast was hot and fresh every morning, we would definitely stay here again!
Water pressure non existent. Stayed on 5th floor, and struggled to shower under a trickle. Breakfast could also use a little bit revamping. One morning pancakes were like cardboard. Otherwise. Great location to Charleston and beach.
I really like this hotel! Pros: Super clean and sleek. Front desk was nice. Location central to all Mount Pleasant activities. AC and refrigerator very quiet. Overall, we had a good stay. Con: The overwhelmingly intense SMELL of CLEANER in the room. It took my breath away upon entering the room. I appreciated the cleanliness of the room, but PLEASE Hyatt House, can you use something unscented and maybe even better, something environmentally friendly? I would stay here again in a second if it weren't for the powerful odor of whatever they used to clean the room.
BE AWARE! $110 UNDISCLOSED FEES!!! During booking, I was not notified of any pet fees; during check-in I was not notified of any pet fees, even though I walked into the elevator with my dog; at checkout, I was not notified of any pet fees, even thought I was checking out with my dog. I requested a refund from both the hotel and customer service, but they failed to refund saying “The pet fee policy is publicly available, and the hotel team determined that the charge was appropriate in this case”. News flash, Hyatt - nobody reads the fine print/policies/terms and conditions, just like nobody will go to your hotel’s website to read about your pet policy! ???? what a pitiful excuse to steal money from unsuspecting people!! To be able to ethically charge a pet fee, or any fee, for that matter, you should disclose the fee clearly at booking and preferably confirm at least at check-in, which you failed to do, which makes it clear you employ deceptive business practices. You stole over $100 right out of my pocket, and I had no idea until I saw the charge on my credit card transaction history. I am considering cancelling my Hyatt credit card after years of having it, because I don’t want to support a company who utilizes deceptive business practices! Shame on you, Hyatt, your disgraceful “customer service” is going right downhill. And I want to add: The breakfast was terrible! The coffee was COLD, and that was right at 8AM! There were no utensils, which we had to ask the staff for them, who acted like it was a huge inconvenience. The only good thing about my stay was a comfy bed and a clean room, but that’s it. Again, shame on you, Hyatt Mount Pleasant!
The quality and service at this hotel declines with each stay. Housekeeping did not clean our room. I called and asked for towels and the desk staff said housekeeping is gone, they leave for the day at 3pm and to come get them myself from the desk. Upon checking the hot water heater was not working and the staff knew it. We showered in cold water, notified the staff and was then told, they know and are working on the issue. Why not mention that at check in before guest go to their room to shower, is beyond me. Most of the staff needs training on basic CS. The front desk is often vacant of any staff and they rarely answer the phone or return calls from guest rooms.
