Recent guest reviews for the Courtyard by Marriott North Charleston Airport/Coliseum reveal significant concerns regarding staffing quality and room cleanliness, with some guests experiencing issues like rude receptionists, unsanitary bedding, and security breaches. While several reviewers praise the location and staff’s friendliness, persistent problems with service and upkeep detract from the overall experience.
This is my first time vacationing here, and I made a reservation at this hotel because it caught my eye and seemed safe. However, the staff here makes me not want to make another reservation. The receptionists are terrible—the worst customer service I could have ever experienced. If they're not qualified to work in customer service, they should go work in construction or house cleaning because nobody can put up with their bad temper. I hope you take action because hotels lose good customers because of staff like this. Thank you. Sincerely, Julissa Sanchez
Never thought I’d post this for a Marriott…We reserved a room with a pullout couch and they gave our room away and stuck us in a room with our a hide-a-bed. Good to note that we got here at 7:30p, so it’s not like it was even late. They then gave us another room and we walked in on someone else that was already checked into that room and they were laying in bed! Not even sure how that happens!? Do yourself a favor and go further into Charleston. Funky smell in the lobby and hallways as well. Like I said, I’ve never had an expertise this at a Marriott so I’m hoping it’s limited to this location. We left and got a room at a different hotel.
The hotel has been recently refurbished so is extremely clean and modern, the pool is nice and was lucky to have a room with a balcony so we were very grateful for that. The location is great with close by establishments and only 15 minutes drive from Charleston downtown. $15-$20 uber Now I wish I could give this 5* but the girl on the front desk in the afternoons is a discredit to the company, she is extremely rude and disrespectful to guests, doesn’t seem to care that she’s at work, eats full meals at the front desk and gets pissed off when asked to do her job. She is also never dressed professionally and looks like she’s ready for bed at any moment. I really hope this review is taken on board as genuine feedback, I think with a correction on attitude and work values, this will become a 5* rated hotel in no time!
I booked 2 nights here for a project a few days out that was scheduled for 3 days. It turns out the customer was not ready so I reached out to see if I could cancel. I was told "no problem Mr.Banks we will get that taken care of for you". I am a titanium member and I generally am accomodated. I never received any email or correspondence after my check in instructions, no invoice, my app doesnt show the stay etc. This was expected and reflected that the cancelation was successful at no charge. I was later notified by my employer that the charge for a night was being withheld from my paycheck. I looked again for any correspondence or a stay for that date and could find none. I reached out to the property and the AGM was happy to inform me that they enforce a cancelation policy of charging 1 night without 48 hours notice in all circumstances. Apparently they don't believe in notice on their side of the transaction though so I would advise against booking here unless you are already in the parking lot with your luggage as you could pay without even knowing if you end up not making it. I'm sure there is a nearby Hilton property that is more understanding of the needs of their business customers.
Our stay at this location was extremely disappointing and honestly unsettling. When we got into the bed, we discovered something on the sheets that was absolutely disgusting. It wasn’t just on the fitted sheet—it was clearly on the top sheet and the comforter as well, making it obvious the bedding had not been properly cleaned or replaced. This is unacceptable for any hotel, especially one under the Marriott name where basic cleanliness should be a guarantee. It completely ruined our comfort and sense of safety during the stay. To make matters worse, when we brought it up at checkout, the staff gave what felt like a quick, dismissive response. We were told they would give us points, but it felt more like an attempt to push us out the door rather than genuinely address the issue. On top of that, nothing was ever actually followed through on—no points were received and no real resolution was provided. Between the cleanliness issue and the lack of accountability, this experience fell far below expectations. The staff is absolutely amazing! Every single one of them is a master of southern hospitality. The rooms are kept nice and neat. The hotel has a great central location. Sorry, I took pictures during my stay. The room was immaculate when I first entered.
The rooms were decent and the location was convenient, but unfortunately the customer service completely changed our experience. The front desk lady was very unprofessional and came across as rude and dismissive during our interaction. Instead of being welcoming or helpful, her attitude made us feel like we were inconveniencing her just by asking simple questions. Hospitality and professionalism go a long way when staying at a hotel, and this experience left a very negative impression. Asking like we were a nuisance rather an a guest. I hope management addresses the customer service at the front desk because guests deserve to be treated with respect.
Great place, friendly staff. The front desk attendant was extremely helpful and polite. We had dinner one nice and it was great, the attendant was absolutely a joy and hilarious. The only reason why 4 stars, the ladies at the bistro could not make a white mocha with a extra shot correctly. Stood there and complained about kids in the lobby for 5 minutes while I was standing there ready to order. Other than that, great place to stay.
The front staff was friendly. However, this is where it stops. The housekeeping is apparently through a temp agency, and it shows. The biggest issue was security. I declined housekeeping for the entire stay. After returning from being gone all day, we returned to find that our hotel door was open. Housekeeping had come into our room, which they were not supposed to, and had performed cleaning services halfway. They left the door open. The door was left open for anyone to walk into our room. Not only were they not supposed to be in the room, but they did not even do their job correctly. The door did not shut all the way, which was an inconvenience as we had to slam it shut every time we left. The assistant manager handled the complaint but simply wanted to give me some points, which was not acceptable. I finally got her to agree to comp the one night. She stated she would call me or text me to follow up; however, she did not. There was a lack of trust, and I did not feel comfortable leaving my valuables, so I took them with me every time I left. I do not feel one night free was compensation enough for the incident. I would have left, but it would have cost me to cancel the room and cost more since it would be a last-minute reservation. The room had stained carpet. There was no soap in the shower, which was not discovered until I got into the shower. The ice maker leaks, and the floor was wet in front of it. The elevators were slow, and half the time the buttons did not work. The manager admitted to having problems with the housekeeping, yet continues to use a temp agency. This is not fair to those who work up front, who have apparently raised their own concerns. The lobby was. hot at all times, and the trash was often full. I would not recommend this hotel due to the security concerns and housekeeping concerns, which appear to be ongoing problems that have not been addressed fully. I do not feel the one-night compensation was adequate for the issues we had. They did not represent what Marriott stands for, nor does the company that runs them.
?? – Needs Significant Improvement I had high hopes for this stay, but several service failures left a lasting negative impression. The front desk experience was disappointing from the start. The agents lacked warmth and enthusiasm, and the agent who checked me in announced my room number aloud — a basic privacy breach that should never happen. I was also not greeted by name at any point during check-in. To make matters worse, my Bonvoy membership was never requested during check-in, and when I brought it up, I was told they couldn’t look it up using my personal information — something that even retail stores like Sephora manage to do without issue. That’s a frustrating gap for a loyalty program of Bonvoy’s scale. Additionally, I was passed over in the check-in line when another agent allowed a different guest to be served ahead of me at a second station, which felt dismissive. When I requested a late checkout, none was available, so I confirmed I would be leaving at the standard noon checkout time. Despite this, a housekeeper knocked on my door at 10:00 AM — there was no DND sign in the room, and clearly no internal note was made to avoid disturbing me. Being woken up unnecessarily is not acceptable. On the positive side, the room itself was clean and quiet, appropriate for Courtyard standards. One minor issue: the body wash was not mounted like the shampoo and conditioner and fell from the shower wall. The hallway housekeeper was a bright spot — she kindly made way for me and my luggage and wished me a warm goodbye. Small improvements in staff training, guest privacy, loyalty program handling, and internal communication would make a meaningful difference here. Unfortunately, as it stands, I would not recommend this property.
