The Tides Folly Beach offers a prime beachfront location with generally positive guest experiences, particularly praising the friendly and attentive staff. However, recent reviews highlight concerns regarding dated facilities and inconsistent cleanliness, alongside occasional operational issues such as slow elevators and maintenance delays. While many appreciate the beautiful views and convenient access to the beach, some guests have experienced issues with room conditions and responsiveness from management.
This was our first time visiting, the hotel staff services all around 10 star. The manager Kevin offers outstanding services to ensure all your needs are met during your stay, very professional, helpful and thoughtful and sincere. The stay was above top knotch, and because of this, we will definitely make this an annual vacation #1 destination. Thank you Tides @Folly for making this a great vacation for the Montgomery family.
I was at tge Tides in Folly Beach, SC the first week of June. We ate at the Pinky’s restaurant in the Tides hotel. Our waitress was Megan and she was absolutely the best!!! She checked on us throughout our meal but wasn’t aggravating. The all meat pizza was delicious!! We loved our view from our room and the room was very clean. If you get to go and eat at Pinky’s make sure to ask for Megan she will treat you right.
I was expecting a little bit higher level hotel than what it is. There is no valet, but there is Bell service. The rooms are OK. We had a wonderful view from room 636 of the pier and ocean. That was the highlight of the stay. It is definitely suited for a younger and family oriented crowd. Very small pool with strange hours it doesn’t open until 10 AM. That could be a nice factor however when it did open that we’re not towels available as I was told there would be they didn’t come till about 11 AM or noon. I was told they’ll come out when they finish washing them OK. Easy to get chairs for the beach, which was very crowded. Had two nice volleyball courts. The restaurant and bars served basic needs. What we did eat there was good. Olivia was our server. Lovely. In fact, everybody is really really nice there. When we try to check out as we told there would be help available for bags we found the phone didn’t work to call downstairs. It took us 15 minutes via an AI assistant to get a message for Bell Service. they never came. It’s an incredibly frustrating situation when you’re ready to go. When we got downstairs, the bell pop was fabulous. They both were that we had the pleasure of interacting with. I wouldn’t come back here, but it may be well suited for families being mindful this is June 2026 and there is quite a bit of construction right in front of the hotel so driving around In-N-Out is tricky.
We chose The Tides Folly Beach for an important occasion—our wedding weekend. We hosted our rehearsal dinner at the property, booked a suite for two nights, and had many of our guests stay through our room block. Unfortunately, our experience got off to a disappointing start when my fiancé checked into our suite and found that the bathroom had not been properly cleaned, including an unflushed toilet containing diarrhea from a previous guest. This was obviously concerning and not what we expected, especially given the significance of the weekend and the investment we made in the property. Because we were in the middle of our wedding weekend, we were focused on our events and guests and did not raise the issue at the time. Instead, we provided feedback through the post-stay guest survey. When we never received a response, we followed up directly with customer service. Unfortunately, we did not receive a response to that outreach either. The location is hard to beat, and we were excited to have our wedding guests stay there. However, cleanliness is a basic expectation for any hotel stay, particularly for a special event. While the initial issue was disappointing, the lack of follow-up after multiple attempts to share feedback was equally frustrating. I hope this feedback is helpful and that additional attention is given to both housekeeping procedures and guest communication moving forward.
This was our anniversary trip to Folly - never been here before. The exterior is beautiful - the staff is AMAZING. There is a young guy that carried our bags in and we interacted with the whole tine - Harrison. This guy is such an asset to this hotel. He remembered after several days it was our 30th anniversary. I hope this kid makes management one day - he has what it takes. Beds were so comfortable, terrible pillows, lol. The interior of the hotel lacks - not the restaurant part, they've gone all out on it. But the updates and general upkeep need work. Beautiful furnishings throughout - but dirty elevator doors, cracked tiles in elevators, ceilings that need paint and caulking around doorways would look cleaner and more up to par with the outside. Very smooth check in and check out. Great location. Go to Rita's and 23. Amazing food. Pier was gorgeous and easily accessible from hotel. Overall a wonderful hotel. All the staff deserve raises - they are top notch.
Stayed here a few times in the off season for a little staycation. It’s a great location. It’s definitely an older hotel but it’s been renovated and they’ve done some decent upkeep on it. Rooms are decent. Nothing super fancy but exactly what you need for just spending the night and sleeping there. The hotel itself has a nice bar inside and outside as well as a restaurant.
Stayed here spur of the moment after I extended my New Orleans trip. My room was fantastic, with the best view of the ocean and pier. I booked a few days out and only paid $133 all in. The staff is super friendly and helpful.
Truly loved this hotel. Our view of the beach and folly were both equally beautiful. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful! The room was very clean and bathrooms were really nice. Water pressure needs a little help but would definitely be back here!
Loved this hotel, perfect spot! Everyone was so friendly. They were under going construction in January, once that done it’ll be a better stay. The only thing I didn’t care for was how loud they played the music by the pool even when no one was out there. My room was right above the pool for the ocean view and it kills the vibe of trying to listen to the waves in the afternoon or evening. Other than that, I’d recommend. It would be great id that was dialed down a notch or limited to hour blocks or something.
Overall great, all rooms have ocean views with small accessible balconies but hotel is showing its age. The beds and pillows are soft (for those who perfer firm), and could use more sheets or additional comforter (cold in January for just sheet and thin cover). Heater unit starts making odd noises overnight. Staff are incredibly nice and helpful, water pressure is great with very hot water. Pool is nice and heated (no hot tub though unfortunately). Lots of good tv channels with some premium (showtime, hbo) and ones for kids (disney, cartoon network). Fridge in room. Wifi works fine but is unprotected (no password). Quiet snd not busy (in january)
