The Sweetgrass Inn offers a family-friendly resort experience with multiple pools, a beach, and a variety of shops and restaurants within its charming village setting. Recent reviews highlight exceptional service and a welcoming atmosphere, although some concerns exist regarding cleanliness and occasional noise issues.
We stayed at Sweetgrass Inn to celebrate our daughter graduating elementary school, and it was such a special experience. Corinne went above and beyond by arranging a surprise treat in our room for her. It was such a thoughtful gesture, and it meant so much to our family. We loved everything about our stay. The pool was fantastic, the food was excellent, and you really can't beat the location. Being able to walk to so many great restaurants and shops made the whole trip feel relaxing and easy. Even as locals, it felt like the perfect little getaway. We can't wait to come back. Thank you to Corinne and the entire team for making our celebration so memorable.
Overall, Wild Dunes is a nice destination for young families, with clean rooms, friendly front desk and restaurant employees, great spa and better-than-expected food. Pretty much everything you need is a short walk - gorgeous beach, several pools, food and bars. The Jr Suite at The Boardwalk Inn was perfect for my family - myself, my husband and our 8 month old. Spacious and quiet! Cons: - While there are pros for families, I wouldn’t come running back. For starters, we stayed for 5 nights and our room was cleaned once - and we had to flag the cleaner down in the hallway for service. Another day, the cleaners came at 5pm… we had just gotten back from the pool and in the middle of showering up for dinner so just grabbed fresh towels from the cart and went on with our evening. - The family-friendly pools are pretty small and extremely crowded. Guests (mostly families with several kids) are quick to hog multiple chairs - especially those in the shade. We couldn’t sit in the hot sun with our baby, so had to cut our pool days short a couple of days. If there were more staff overseeing the pool and whether or not guests were actually using the chairs they were claiming, I think this could’ve been avoided! - After 3 mornings on the beach, we were informed that to sit on said beach, you had to rent each chair for over $100 each. Basics like water, snacks or a bottle of wine at the convenience store on site were extremely expensive, too. Coming from Boston, I actually didn’t think meal prices were too crazy like other reviews say, but it was the simple things that Wild Dunes either fell short on or nickel and dimed you for. Core memories were made, but will probably try somewhere else next trip!
We stayed at sweetgrass side and had an “ocean view” room i would say i dont think a slight sliver of ocean between trees was worth it for the extra upcharge to call it ocean view but the room was nice and we got a lot of use out of the balcony. Our 8m baby had plenty to do especially at the beach and the sweetgrass pool which had a splash area and zero depth pool area. Resort was clean and had many shops and activities. Note though everything closes down around 9. Food wise we ate at coastal crust 3 times by far the best option! Lots of trails to walk and explore with the stroller as well as easy beach access. Overall great family destination almost everyone had kids or babies with them. The spa was pricey but great experience for facial.
Our daughter's wedding was held there recently. Unfortunately, some guests were not aware, and started complaining about the DJ noise. A very rude manager who looked like Bobby Bones came up and told my daughter that she must end the reception 45 minutes early. My daughter was in tears. The resort should have notified guests. Quiet hours on weekends end at 11 pm, not 10:15! If you want to accommodate sleeping babies, then don’t have events with music and alcohol. The resort is overpriced anyway. Not to mention, one of the bartenders was a jerk. I’m disappointed in the management. Our food and servers were very nice! Go to Orange Beach! Much prettier and friendly.
Overall, we had a positive experience and service was excellent. However, there were issues with cleanliness and noise that really detracted from our trip. First the positives, the hotel is beautiful. We have a basic "Marsh View" room in Sweetgrass. The decor is basic, but cute. All the staff was quite friendly and helpful. It was easy to access the beach and the range of food options within Wild Dunes was adequate. I liked the kids pool area, there was a small splash pad and zero entry that was very welcoming for young children. A lot of seating, but so many ants and other insects over everything. However, cleanliness was a real problem in the room. When we arrived there were straight dark hairs ON the lid of the toilet seat...YUCK!! I also noted dark sand on the floor of the shower even after it was "cleaned", although our family had not been to the beach yet. I later noted that it is impossible to wash all the sand down the drain because of the way the shower floor is angled. Again...YUCK!! There were also safety issues, our balcony door would not lock and this is concerning with a toddler present. The noise from the lot outside our door was disruptive even on the 4th floor. There was also a wedding on Saturday night, you could hear the music pulsating through the walls and it kept our child awake despite the white noise machine. The beach was typical East Coast with dark sand and silty water, but we still had fun. It was quite expensive to rent covers/umbrellas so will bring our Shibumi if we return. I don't feel like I got my money's worth.
My stay at Sweetgrass Inn was nothing short of exceptional. I arrived several hours before check-in, and the hotel representative went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. Not only was she able to get me checked into my room early, but she also took the time to explain the resort amenities and personally walked me outside to give me a quick tour and point me in the right direction. I travel frequently for work, and this level of hospitality and genuine care is rare. My room was spotless, comfortable, and beautifully appointed. As this was a work trip, my only disappointment was not having a balcony, as I would have loved to work while enjoying the warm ocean breeze. However, that may have been an oversight when I booked, so I certainly can't hold it against the resort. What truly sets Sweetgrass Inn apart is the incredible atmosphere. Step outside your building and you're transported into a charming village complete with restaurants, a pizza shop, ice cream store, art gallery, boutique shopping, salon, and more. There is so much to do beyond golf, making it perfect for travelers who enjoy staying active and exploring during their vacation. The resort offers multiple pools and dining options, ensuring there's something for everyone. On my first day, I grabbed lunch from the adorable taco truck by the pool. These were not your typical food truck tacos, they were some of the best I've ever had. The gentleman and young woman working there were friendly, engaging, and genuinely delightful to chat with. While sitting at the picnic table enjoying my lunch, a random staff member stopped to ask how I was doing, how my stay was and if they could get me anything. Again, above and beyond. The beach is only about a five-minute walk away, but the journey itself is part of the experience. The beautifully designed property kept my attention the entire way, with stunning architecture and scenery that had me dreaming about winning the lottery and moving there permanently. Once I reached the beachside burger spot, I enjoyed a relaxing while watching the waves roll in, sipping ice water, and chatting with the manager. It perfectly captured the laid-back, welcoming spirit of the resort. I was also attending a work conference during my stay, and the conference facilities were fantastic, beautiful, well-maintained, and professionally managed. Overall, this was a 10 out of 10 experience. Sweetgrass Inn delivers outstanding service, exceptional amenities, wonderful dining, beautiful surroundings, and plenty of activities all within the resort. I would highly recommend it to families, conference attendees, and vacationers looking for a destination where they can truly have it all without ever needing to leave the property. I wish I had taken more picture to be able to share, but they just don’t do this place justice.
I had a wonderful stay at this Hyatt resort. We stayed at the Boardwalk Inn, with the Sweetgrass Inn conveniently located right next door and connected by an easy sidewalk stroll. The two inns are linked by a charming courtyard filled with small shops and cafés, making it a pleasant area to explore. Our room at the Boardwalk Inn was warm and inviting, and the bed was one of the most comfortable we've ever slept in. We enjoyed breakfast on the patio at Coastal Provisions, and later took a short walk along the boardwalk to Beachside Burgers & Bar, which was perfect for a casual meal. It was also a wonderful spot to relax by the pool and take in the beautiful ocean views. Although our stay was too short to fully explore the surrounding area, it was incredibly relaxing and enjoyable. We would happily return for a longer visit.
We stayed at Hyatt Wild Dunes Seagrass in a premium double queen room, and it was absolutely amazing! While our view was of the parking lot/entry area, that seemed to be a booking mix-up on my part — the room itself was premium, just not a premium view. Aside from that, everything was truly top notch. The room was beautiful, comfortable, and clean, the pool area was fantastic, and the overall resort atmosphere was relaxing and welcoming. The food was great, and the location was perfect — close to so many things, including various tourist tours and activities within a 20-30 minute drive. The service was honestly some of the best customer service we’ve experienced. Everyone we interacted with was so kind, helpful, and accommodating, which made the stay feel extra special. From the pool to the food, the staff, and the overall experience, Hyatt Wild Dunes Seagrass exceeded our expectations. We definitely plan to come back and would highly recommend it!
I had the most amazing time here. Was here for a work trip, but will definitely come back for a family vacation. The staff treats you like royalty. Like you are a star. The grounds are just too gorgeous to try and describe. Beautiful flowers everywhere, cute buildings, plenty of pools and the beachfront area is fabulous. The only negative thing to critique is my Uber dropped me off at the main building (sweergrass inn). However I was actually staying down the road at the boardwalk inn. The walk was fine going by all the shops, restaurants and fountain. However there was a stretch of walkway that was loose gravel. It was extremely difficult to take my luggage through there and I accidentally fell at the end. I would recommend taking guests when they first arrive on a golf cart. Overall I had life time memories made there and will always cherish them. I cant wait to go back.
Good resort, but quite overpriced. The interior is nice and feels like a small private town, with everything you need: restaurants, bars, pools, and more. However, there isn’t much of interest within walking distance outside the resort, aside from expensive houses. Keep in mind that it can take a long time to get an Uber or Lyft to go out. A ride to downtown Charleston can cost $60–$70 and may take a 30–40 minute wait, so it’s best to book in advance. On the other hand, rides from downtown Charleston to the resort typically cost $25–$30.
