I’ve traveled all over the world and stayed at some truly impressive hotels and resorts, but The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island is, without question, one of my favorites — and perhaps my favorite of them all. The hotel itself is absolutely stunning, but what really sets it apart is how impeccably it is run. Over our five-day stay, there wasn’t a single hiccup or misstep. Every employee we encountered was warm, genuinely kind, and respectful. Everyone seemed to have a smile on their face and was constantly looking for ways to make our stay more comfortable and enjoyable. That level of service is incredibly rare. The food was excellent throughout the resort, and the golf was world-class. The beach was beautiful, peaceful, and uncrowded, with warm, enjoyable water. It was the perfect combination of relaxation, luxury, and recreation. We booked a Club Level room, and it was absolutely worth it. The Club Lounge offers more amenities than any club level experience I’ve ever encountered. Breakfast was plentiful and excellent, and the evening hors d’oeuvres were so substantial that you could easily skip dinner. Wine, cocktails, and other refreshments were available throughout the day. It added an entirely different level of comfort and convenience to the stay. What I loved most, though, was the character of the place. The Sanctuary manages to be elegant and luxurious while still feeling comfortable and welcoming. It has genuine Southern charm without even a hint of pretentiousness. Nothing feels stuffy or overly formal. Instead, there’s a warmth and graciousness that makes you feel like a welcomed guest rather than a customer. After five days, we left feeling like everything had simply been done right. If you’re looking for a beautiful resort with exceptional service, world class golf, a fantastic beach, outstanding food, and genuine Southern hospitality, I can’t recommend The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island highly enough. We will absolutely be back.

Our family had an incredible stay at the Sanctuary Hotel! The beautiful property is amazing, but what truly made our trip unforgettable was the staff. From the moment we arrived, Mark made us feel genuinely welcome. Odvar, our bellman, was incredibly helpful getting our luggage to the room and even shared great local recommendations. Bella at the front desk was so accommodating and made every interaction a pleasure. The housekeeping staff also did an outstanding job and were always friendly, smiling, and took real pride in their work. As a business owner, I pay close attention to customer service, and it's refreshing to see a team where everyone takes ownership of their role with respect, professionalism, and pride. That culture is evident throughout the entire hotel. Thank you to everyone at the Sanctuary Hotel for helping create such wonderful family memories. We can't wait to come back!

We have been coming to The Sanctuary since 2010. When we first started visiting, it was just my husband and me. Today, we arrive with our three kids in tow, and The Sanctuary has continued to be a place we look forward to returning to year after year. The property is as beautiful as ever, and the rooms have been impeccably maintained. But what truly sets The Sanctuary apart is its genuine Southern hospitality. If you're fortunate enough to meet Mr. Chris, you're in for a treat. Every year, he welcomes us with the same warmth and kindness. This visit, he knelt down to introduce himself to each of our children, asked them their names, and took a genuine interest in getting to know them. It's those heartfelt moments that make this place so special. Thank you, Mr. Chris, for making The Sanctuary feel like home every time we visit.

Beautiful grounds, lobbies and accommodations. Staff are top-notch. Concierge handle things efficiently and quickly. Jasmine Porch and Ocean Grill are very good! Club level is a good value. Housekeeping is superb! Two suggestions: increase Club Level prices by $1000 and give an increase in food quality. There needs to be a bump up in exclusivity. Disney World does Club Level very well…copy that. Fix the coffee problem stat! Early risers have no coffee option until 6:00 am, and even then it’s a little carafe in Jasmine Porch. Place decanters in the lobby, like any budget hotel has, so folks catching early planes or who start the day early can enjoy their coffee.

We spent 3 days at the Sanctuary for golf and to attend a wedding. We arrived around 10pm and by 11:30pm we decided we were going to book another trip and come back later this year. The hotel itself is beautiful and the golf courses are incredible. Worth every penny. The service is the most impressive aspect. We had the pleasure of meeting Chris when we arrived who was the nicest and most helpful person that we’ve ever encountered in hospitality! We ate a lot at the Jasmine Porch and were amazed how genuinely friendly and kind the servers were. Ocean Room was delicious with amazing staff as well. The staff here is just so impressive, top of their industry. Truly a 5 star resort and we can’t wait to come back!

I love this place so much! This is my 3rd time here ,and its always amazing! They pay attention to literally every detail! The beach is extremely clean and peaceful, even the busiest months its not crowded or overwhelming at all! The hotel staff is super professional, really a well organized place! I highly recommend staying here!

Excellent ocean views from our room, classy hotel and great vibes; staff was friendly and management will go the extra mile for you. Definitely book at least one dinner at the Ocean Room. 5-star all around was our experience! Note: villas on the island are completely unrelated to this hotel, the 1 and 2 star review people are confused somehow and writing reviews in the wrong place.

I came here to see a concert. I liked the fact that I could use the valet service to park my car even though I was not staying at the resort! The concert area was nice! When they said they treated the outside so that there weren't any mosquitoes, there wasn't a single one-and I thoroughly enjoyed that! Flies-there were a few but not so many that you couldn't eat and enjoy yourself! There was plenty of space to watch the show and dance if you wanted to. The views behind the concert area was the Atlantic Ocean so that was nice plus! If you need to go to the bathroom, be ready to walk to the nearest one...and the bathrooms are gorgeous!! The outside food that they served during the concert was $30 for a hamburger and chips! We ended up going inside and ordering from one of the restaurants and even the kids' meals were starting to $20! I can't eat a lot so I ordered a kid's hamburger meal which came with fries and a drink and let me tell you...that filled me up and it was WAY better than what my friend ordered outside!! I wish I knew what was in the burger meat-lol! This is a very upscale hotel so if you are planning on staying, you are looking at $300+ a night. Getting on the resort was a PAIN because there's only one check-in line and if you are in the wrong line, you are SCREWED!! If you are visiting, stay to the left!! If you need to get there early, plan on arriving at least an hour beforehand! Kiawah island is mostly upscale resorts and golf courses so if you aren't into that, I don't recommend coming here.

The Sanctuary is the nicest hotel we’ve stayed at in years. It was my wife’s 70th birthday and they upgraded our room to club level with excellent views of the ocean and one hole on the golf course. Dinner at the Ocean Room was excellent as well as the service. The hotel is expensive but you get your moneys worth with superb food and service. We had great hamburgers at the Ryder Cup Bar outside on the porch w ocean and golf course view. Doesn’t get any better. The coffee shop in the hotel had very good lattes and almond croissants. Service again was excellent. The staff at the hotel are always friendly and really try to please you at all times. We only stayed two nights but are heading back in October to celebrate our anniversary for 3 nights. The hotel is only 30 minutes from Charleston another fun place to visit.

The hotel is very nice, we were booked in for a conference for 6 nights with King Bed. Checked in and arrived to 2 Queens. Asked to be moved to a King bed and was told by the manager on duty the "you are on a group rate and we can put you anywhere we want". So, I was left to feel like a lowlife while paying $680 per night. Manager could use a little tact training. Everyone else was spectacular. Shows how 1 person can change the entire thought process of the stay.
