The Holiday Inn Charleston Riverview receives mixed reviews, with praise for its convenient location, friendly staff, and rooftop restaurant. However, several guests report issues with outdated rooms, cleanliness concerns, and inconsistent service, particularly regarding the harbor-view rooms and shuttle schedules. Despite these drawbacks, some highlight the exceptional care provided during a difficult time.

Our family recently stayed here under circumstances we never imagined. My 8-year-old son had just suffered a traumatic injury and was recovering after being treated at MUSC Children’s Hospital. When we arrived, he shared his story with the front desk and mentioned that he hoped, after everything he had been through, he might have a room with a beautiful view. To our surprise, they made it happen. That view became a place of peace for him as he rested and began to recover. Every single staff member we encountered was incredibly kind, compassionate, and encouraging. During a time when our family was emotionally and physically exhausted, their genuine care meant more than they will ever know. A special thank you to the restaurant staff. They never rushed us, and they took the time to listen as my son happily shared story after story with them. What may have seemed like a simple conversation to them was actually a huge part of his healing. After such a traumatic experience, helping him smile, laugh, and feel heard was a priceless gift. Because of the way we were cared for, this hotel will always hold a special place in our hearts. As we return to Charleston for future appointments at MUSC, we already know where we’ll stay. This hotel has become our safe haven—a place of comfort, kindness, and healing during one of the hardest seasons of our lives. Thank you for reminding our family that compassion still exists and that the smallest acts of kindness can make the biggest difference. We look forward to returning under much happier circumstances. ??

Pros: Location and shuttle service are excellent. Having true breakfast buffett is awesome. Room is adequate and bed comfortable.Love the views of water. Front desk staff is very nice Cons: Pool is never open - but they keep telling you it will be. The restaurant does not follow its own open /close hours. Floors need serious mopping - my white socks were black.

Had the pleasure of staying at this location and it was easy access to move around Charleston. Th staff was amazing the front desk people smiles and welcomed you in each time you walked into the building. The restaurant and bar staff lead by Bekah was amazing as well. The staff was not even rattled when an issue came up, they took care of right away so we could enjoy the rest of the evening. The most impressive thing was when the GM randomly called to make sure all was good. Top to bottom great place ro stay.

I loved this hotel from the staff, location, and even the guests. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and we had everything we needed for a place to stay. We were close to Charleston and close to Folly Beach. Everything you need is just a few minutes down the road. I love the history of the hotel and the feeling that you are staying somewhere thats just different. The pool was super nice and clean and the restaurant staff and food were great. My daughter left behind her most favorite stuffy that is priceless. Kate the manager already had "Tinky " in hand before I made the call the next day to see if they could find her in the bedding. Every staff member I spoke too was so kind, empathetic, and helpful. We prayed over this as a family and the Lord really showed up in the staff to care for us as if we were their own family. They really went above and beyond to make you comfortable. The guests are a mixed bag, which I loved. A+ experience and that is so rare without paying a fortune for a room this close to Charleston or the beach. Thank you for helping us have a wonderful vacation!! We will be back!

I booked a harbor-view room because the photos on the website made the view look absolutely spectacular. Since having a room with that view costs extra, I expected to be able to truly enjoy it from my room. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. The window is small and located on the far right side of the room. Most of it is covered by curtains that cannot be fully opened, so you have to lean over just to catch a glimpse of the harbor. I asked if I could switch rooms, but I was told that every room with this bed type has the exact same window and view. I believe this should be clearly explained on the hotel's website so guests know what to expect before paying extra for a harbor-view room. The staff suggested that if I wanted a better view, I could go to the restaurant on the top floor. While the view there is beautiful, you have to purchase food or drinks to enjoy it. That's an additional expense, and it's simply not the same as relaxing in your own room or falling asleep with the curtains open while enjoying the harbor. The main reason I booked this hotel was for the view, so this was my biggest disappointment. Another drawback is the location. For my next visit to Charleston, I would rather stay downtown, where everything is within walking distance. This hotel offers a free shuttle, which is appreciated, but it runs on a schedule, and I often had to wait quite a while for it. Between waiting for the shuttle, riding it, and getting back, I ended up spending a lot of valuable vacation time on transportation. Staying closer to downtown would have been much more convenient. I was also disappointed with the housekeeping service. My room wasn't cleaned very well, I wasn't given replacement coffee, and some towels were removed without being replaced. On the positive side, the front desk staff, the shuttle drivers, and everyone at the restaurant were absolutely wonderful. They were warm, welcoming, professional, and made me feel genuinely happy to be there. Their excellent customer service was one of the highlights of my stay. If great service is your priority, I highly recommend this hotel. Overall, my experience had both very positive and disappointing aspects. The outstanding staff almost made up for the issues, but the misleading harbor-view room, the distance from downtown, and the housekeeping problems kept this from being a great stay. For those reasons, I'm giving it a middle-of-the-road rating.

Awesome hotel. Great location. Nice that they offer a free shuttle to downtown. Restaurant is nice. Food is average but convenient. All the staff was great. Bed was most comfortable bed I've ever had in a hotel. We would definitely stay here again.

The positives: free shuttle that runs hourly to the Market St/Meeting St area downtown, The staff were friendly and helpful, beds are soft and comfortable to me, the furniture in the room is more modern and has storage hooks, plenty of parking, 3 mirrors in the room, 1 washer ($2) and dryer ($1), beautiful view. The negatives: Not the typical Holiday Inn standard, no safe, outdated - windows need insulation as the road noise can be heard like the window is open, water stains on the wall from leaks, musty smell when air comes on, bathtub is for tiny 1970s people ? and too many things in the tub- handrail, multiple soap dishes, etc., awkward door placement for the bathroom, light for the toilet that has a door also turns on the light to the sink that doesn't have a door and wakes everyone up if one person has to go, the room doors need to be updated - there are spaces around the door that allow hallway lights and noise in, curtains do not function 100%, pool was closed even though website said it opened April 1. No microwave, but apparently that is becoming more the standard of most hotels. We stay at many hotels in USA and other countries, very disappointed with this stay and do not recommend. I tried to save a little money compared to the downtown hotels....you get what you pay for, but this hotel was overpriced for the quality.

Rooms are on smaller side from the design of hotel. Moved rooms from rust in bathtub and slow draining drain. Request Better views if you request closer to elevator. Only one EV charger and the space is compact and very small. For the price will probably stay at a newer Holiday Inn next time.

The floors in the room were filthy, the TV was burnt out and only showed tints of blue. The location is good, but getting in and out of the parking lot was a bit hectic at times depending on bridge traffic. I notified the staff about the floors and the TV and they assured me it would be fixed, but it never was. Luckily we were barely in the room (really only to sleep and bathe), but the floors were really gross. The whole hotel needs a complete overhaul and renovation. The floor sloped near the window and felt unsafe.
