The Hampton Inn Charleston - Historic District offers a convenient location in the heart of Charleston, praised for its friendly staff and walkable access to attractions. While generally well-received, recent reviews highlight concerns regarding noise levels, occasional maintenance issues, and a persistent dog odor in some rooms due to the hotel’s pet-friendly policy.

The staff were VERY friendly. This is not a harsh review for the staff at all. But, yes my room had a sweaty shoe smell. Oddly specific but thats the only way to describe it. My biggest complaint was the next room over. Ive stayed in several hotels. I dont think Ive ever heard word for word conversations so clearly from the room next door. I felt like they were in the room with me. Which wasnt an issue until they were up at 1-3am. It woke me up both nights. But they weren't being extremely loud. The walls are just that thin. The hotel itself isnt filthy or terrible, just older.

The hotel for the most part was centrally located and the front desk staff was very helpful. We were a bit put off by the manager who got snarky with a front desk rep. The front desk rep is amazing. The hotel had coffee and tea 24/7 which was wonderful. The only problem we had was that we think there may have been bed bugs in one of the beds in the room we stayed in but we were unsure so we did not mention it.

This was a very nice hotel in downtown Charleston. Location was amazing. The only issue we did have as we arrived at 10:30 at night and the room was 64°. We had a six month old baby. When we woke up at 2 AM because she was crying the room was still at 64° even though we turned the thermostat to auto and 73. You could not open the windows even though it was 80° outside. Maintenance came up at 2:15 AM and determined the heater was broken and we ended up just turning off the air. They were looking for another room on the same floor to switch us too. They were very helpful and got the new room up to 72° and slipped the keys under the door so in the morning we switched rooms. The new room was nicer and larger and they were very helpful with this experience. Other than having to switch rooms everything was incredible the people were so friendly unhelpful. The food for the hot breakfast was really nice. They have Coffee 24 seven. Also they had a nice pool outdoors and our friends staying in the five star hotel in downtown Charleston, their pool and spa closed for renovation. So glad we had a nice outdoor pool here. Would recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

Our visit was the simply the best of the best. The Hampton offers a superb location adjacent to the Charleston visitor center, a minute walk to King Street’s restaurant row, and in close proximity to various museums and historical sites such as the Aiken-Rhett house museum. The hotel, is equally well-located along Meeting Street, allowing for a leisurely five-minute walk to historic Marion Park and perhaps a twenty-minute walk to leafy Broad Street. We found the staff incredibly helpful before and during our five-day stay. Our first floor room, was quiet, of perfect size, and well-cleaned daily. My wife was very pleased. We enjoyed a peaceful breakfast on the veranda each morning where we were surrounded by leafy trees and an impressively large well-kept green space. We wished we had taken time to enjoy the pool. Planning to return May 2027.

What a wonderful place! Life isn't perfect - our stay got off to a bit of a rocky start - and that's usually when things go north or way south. The front desk staff & their support team put it in overdrive to get us back on track, and it was all delightfully uphill from there! As to reviews that you need to modernize your decor - please don't - we loved the traditional feel and good ol' fashioned service & attention to detail! Our room was lovely: large, well designed & quite comfortable. The view was splendid. Yes, the breakfast was technically "standard" fare - alas, no omelette chef - however, I actually ate the scrambled eggs, as they were better by far than the norm. The breads & cereal were fresh, the whole area well-staffed and sparkling clean, and through we usually were some of the last diners, everything was still readily available. The location was perfect for us - in the historic district, but with less congestion. The pool & courtyard were lovely - had the grankdkids been with us, they would have been in heaven. I don't usually remember staff by name, but this team did such a stellar job that names stuck with me; sincere thanks to Mitch (whose kindness went so far above & beyond!) Jazz, Gus, Kristy & Sam the driver, who whisked us from train station to hotel & upon checkout to our cruise embarkation! (I sent a detailed email to your GM with specifics and our sincere gratitude.) In short, this hotel is delightful, but it's their incredible staff that lodged it in our hearts as a highlight of our tour of the Southeast!

Solid hotel choice in historic Charleston. Staff was super friendly. Free breakfast was great and more than just continental options. 24 hour coffee available in the lobby. Great location close to many sights with a DASH/Carta stop across the street along with the Charleston visitor center and Charlotte Museum. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again if I come back to Charleston.

Nice, clean and great service. There is some good places around but can get crowded. Your typical breakfast bar, food was fresh, well stocked and kept clean. Waffle mix was really good and im not a big waffle eater. Would definitely stay again.

I am currently staying at this property. I checked in last Thursday and am staying through tomorrow. I visited family over the weekend and did not stay at the hotel although I remained checked in and paying for my room. I left several personal items in my room and that have all been taken, including an expensive piece of clothing. I brought to attention of the hotel last evening and I have yet to have a resolution to this problem. The general manager has not reached out to me. I did not have my clothes to wear to my work conference today and yet the hotel has not done enough to show that they are disturbed by this occurrence. The items were not found in the lost and found which is very concerning. I would consider these disturbing facts before choosing to stay at this hotel.

We were greeted with a welcoming smile at both check-in and check-out by Matt—he is truly an asset to the property. Thank you, Matt!! The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast offered lots of variety, was served hot, and the staff stayed on top of keeping everything fresh and well stocked. The location is a huge plus, especially for those attending concerts at the Charleston Music Hall—it’s right next door! Highly recommend this hotel, and we will definitely be returning for a future stay!

Good location, but unfortunately very poor maintenance. During my stay, the shower valve got stuck in the ON position in the morning. Maintenance came, but the repair was clearly temporary and poorly done. The same problem happened again at night, causing unnecessary disturbance and inconvenience. This is disappointing for a Hampton property. The location is good, but the lack of proper maintenance makes it not worth the stay. There are better options nearby.
