This property offers a luxurious, beautifully designed Lowcountry escape with exceptional concierge service and amenities, though recent reviews highlight inconsistent dining execution and occasional service lapses.
To preface, I am Forbes hotel trained, worked at Chatham Bars Inn and have been a member at Wychmere Harbor Beach Club for 25+ years, a Longwood events venue, and have stayed at a few Auberge hotels. If want to be treated like you are having the most meaningful day to your young life, avoid this Auberge. I got married at the Dunlin on June 21, 2025. I was overcharged by 100k, only upon my lawyers seeing it, was it refunded. None of my meal, drink, cake, seating, or any choices were written down or honored. I was passed on to 3 different Dunlin wedding coordinators. An influencer staying the same weekend as my wedding got free baskets and amenities sent to her room, meanwhile I spent over 100k in rooms alone and was not given a single free amenity until i complained to the general manager and it was rectified. The location, beauty, and luxuriousness of The Kiawah River and Auberge name does not make up for the lack of consideration of the Dunlin Team.
Amazing place! We went for our babymoon. They were so conscious of the fact we had a baby coming. Ava was an amazing host! Wish I remembered the servers name at the pool because he was on top of his game. Amazing place we cannot wait to come back as a family.
We recently stayed at The Dunlin, Auberge Resort for our babymoon and left feeling completely relaxed and grateful. The property is stunning — serene, beautifully designed, and perfect for a peaceful coastal escape. From the moment we arrived, the thoughtful touches stood out: a complimentary bottle of non-alcoholic sparkling wine, a handwritten note, and the sweetest goat stuffed animal waiting in our room. Our suite felt luxurious yet comfortable — we especially loved the in-room tub and fireplace. The Astor Spa was a highlight. It’s calm, immaculate, and thoughtfully designed, and our massages were the perfect addition to a restful stay. We also enjoyed the heated pool and hot tub, fire pits, and easy access to water activities. Being able to text the concierge directly and use the complimentary Mercedes-Benz service made everything seamless. Dining at Linnette’s was excellent — warm service and beautifully prepared dishes (don’t skip the goat ice cream). Overall, the staff was welcoming and attentive, and the atmosphere felt polished yet relaxed. We would absolutely return — next time with our kids and our dog. If you’re looking for a refined, peaceful Lowcountry retreat, The Dunlin delivers.
Absolutely amazing experience. The setting is stunning. The housekeeping perfect. The food delicious. And great programming. All of the team members were gracious and provided luxury experience without being ostentatious. Thank you for your hospitality!
Had a wonderful vacation here at the Dunlin. The property is exceptional down to every detail. The friendly service, the design of the rooms, the local snacks and drinks in the rooms, the complimentary vehicles, the food at the restaurant, the walking paths, the farm tour, the pools, the views and I could go on. I look forward to coming back again and exploring the property and its offerings more.
We went to The Dunlin for dinner last night and found the overall experience to be disappointing. We looked at the menu prior to making a reservation and judging by the prices, we expected fine dining. It is not! The dining room is loud and the decor is cold and cottage like, but not in a good way. The food was "b" quality but the prices suggested otherwise. We ordered the local catch and the field peas with bacon that came with it were dry and the bacon overcooked. Service was ok! I would go to the Jasmine Porch on Kiawah or drive downtown to Chez Nous or SNOB before dining at The Dunlin.
My fiancée and I just spent three days at The Dunlin for our proposal trip, and it could not have been better. From booking to checkout, the service felt truly concierge-level. Before we arrived, we were paired with an itinerary designer (Katie) who asked about preferences, dietary needs, and trip goals. That care showed up everywhere. We don’t drink alcohol, and the staff anticipated it at every turn with mocktail menus instead of cocktail lists, celebratory mocktails on our engagement night, and off-property reservations that included links to NA/zero-proof options. It felt like everyone, from the front desk to the dining room, had actually read our notes. On property, the details shine: a beautifully scented room, a next-level gym, and access to an AMG Mercedes fleet that made exploring easy. When we asked for a fire by our unit, it was roaring right on time with s’mores kits waiting. We biked 7+ miles of natural trails, spotted wildlife, and had top-tier spa services (even the product curation was thoughtful). The restaurant recommendations were spot-on; we also loved visits to Folly Beach, Kiawah Island, a local goatery, the farm stand, and shopping on Johns Island. Special thanks to the people who made this stay unforgettable: • Katie (itinerary/concierge): scoped proposal locations with my photographer, coordinated timing, even picked us up and kept the surprise alive. • Brad (Lynette’s, on-property fine dining): friendly, informed, and generous with local tips. • Josh (front desk): an absolute legend, handled texts for reservations, cars, and s’mores with effortless hospitality. If you’re planning a proposal, special occasion, or romantic Lowcountry escape, The Dunlin delivers luxury service, thoughtful personalization, and memorable experiences. We left grateful, relaxed, and already planning our return. Strongest recommendation.
I normally don't take the time for a review but felt compelled while certain aspects of just leaving property were fresh on my mind. I am fortunate to have an amazing sister who treated me to a super special weekend in honor of our late mom. We took full advantage of many of the amenities and are grateful for the uninterrupted time spent together. I would like to walk away saying everything aside from the tropical storm over resort all weekend and not being able to enjoy the property as fully as possible lived up to the expectation. My review feels eerily similar to Sarah's from a few weeks back. From our check-in, their were just blatant missteps in service. At this level, these seem almost too amateurish to even exist. Room service salads and cut raw vegetable plates which after 45-50 minutes took a warranted 2nd call to restaurant to check on, water refills at lunch nonexistent with view of nothing but non-bussed tables for entire meal. Server took order to never came back once, aside to deliver check. Coffee bar complete chaos - watching 2 gentlemen roll their eyes, wondering how a cup of coffee could take so long. The property has a lot of potential given the beautiful design & decor, the peaceful marsh setting but the service has a long way to go to live up to the prestige of an exclusive resort. The overarching feeling was a lack of strive for outstanding customer service. Possibly what felt like a very inexperienced staff and lack of training & leadership. I do want to end on high note - the spa and services were exceptional and we would consider coming back to experience again. The other parts just need some refining before we would choose yours & the expense having stayed in comparable type properties. Sincerely, Stephanie Clark
This was my first time visiting The Dunlin and I will say for the price it was a bit underwhelming. I would like to point out the positives that I did experience: The Cove was phenomenal, service here was amazing and very attentive. The pool side drinks and food were excellent, so I would definitely suggest visiting The Cove as much as you can during your stay. The interior design of the entire resort was breathtaking! Every detail was well thought out. Endless bottles of water, which on humid southern days is greatly appreciated. The rest just seemed subpar and has a lot of growing room. The group I was with got a suite, two bedrooms with a living room area- the space was generous and had more than enough seating options for all of us. The fireplace did have a chunk of tile missing from it on the left hand side, so for a place that’s only a year old, that seemed a little odd in terms of level of construction. The Willet room was a great option in the morning for coffee and pastries and then cocktails for during the day or the evening. And although the coffee was great, the delivery of the coffee was not executed as efficiently as it could be. The woman behind the counter, although lovely, could have used an extra hand in getting everything out promptly. Before dinner my group went there for happy hour and it was obvious the two people behind the bar did NOT get along. They were openly bickering with each other, and although it wasn’t overt bickering, it was still unprofessional and not necessary on the floor. We then went to Linnettes for dinner and the dinner meal options left a lot to be desired. Three people got the crab rice and deemed it inedible because the taste. When we mentioned this to, I’m assuming the floor manager, he was very apologetic but didn’t take any of the entrees off the bill… and for a dish that’s $41… it needs to be edible. Also it is industry standard for all martinis to reach the brim of the martini glass that you are serving it in, each martini ordered was filled below the brim. As someone who has a LOT of vodka dirty martinis and espresso martinis… they were not portioned correctly. Overall for dinner at Linnettes… I would say it’s better to get in your car and drive to Charleston for a great dinner experience. I will say we had brunch at Linnettes on our last day and that was a much better experience. My suggestion is to revamp the dinner menu… too many unique flavors and techniques trying to be executed that wasn’t executed well. Overall the visit for the price left a lot to be desired. I wish it had been an overall better experience but I do think there are a lot of areas to work on. People who visit here deserve the NYC luxury experience. They deserve the Paris luxury experience. They deserve an actual luxury experience.
The Dunlin is an absolutely magical destination! We hosted our wedding last weekend at the property and had over 60% of our guests stay at the hotel. The result was BEYOND OUR WILDEST DREAMS! Jamie, James, Gabe, Chef Jeff, Chef Elizabeth, Jody and the entire Dunlin staff (from the Front Desk to the Valet to the Bartenders and all of the Servers) was INCREDIBLE. Their team went ABOVE AND BEYOND to make our weekend so special especially in the backdrop of Hurricane Erin. Jamie and team supported us every step of the way - managing very detailed requests and creating a personalized and highly curated experience for our family and all of guests. We could not be more grateful of their efforts, attention to detail, patience and flawless execution. The property is also nothing short of spectacular, with impeccable design, sweeping views, spacious rooms and an absolutely DELICIOUS culinary program! From Linnette's to the Cove - every single bite from the Shrimp & Grits to the Cinnamon Rolls and every sip from the "Slow Burn" to "Frozen Palomas" all the way to the coffee was absolutely fantastic. I will continue to dream of Chef Elizabeth's incredible pastries and cakes and reflect fondly on her Carrot Cake that she beautiful designed as our Wedding Cake! We are still on Cloud 9 after our weekend and could not recommend The Dunlin more to host your wedding or special event or just a weekend away. I am so excited to return to the River and so appreciative of the Dunlin team for making our special weekend SO spectacular. Thank you does not even begin to express our gratitude!
