The SpringHill Suites by Marriott Mt. Pleasant receives mixed reviews, with significant concerns regarding inconsistent customer service and cleanliness issues. While some guests appreciate the location and amenities, repeated complaints highlight rudeness from front desk staff, unsatisfactory room conditions, and a lack of proactive service.
Whoever the “Audit manager” man was at the front desk on the evening of March 4 has absolutely zero customer service skills whatsoever. I walked into the lobby to get a keycard because my phone/keyless entry was having issues. No one in the lobby, just this audit person on the computer at the front desk. I walked up and said hey how’s it going… he doesn’t look up, doesn’t say anything, just keeps typing away like I’m not there. After 5 seconds he quietly says “can I help you” without even glancing up. I was just kind of surprised and was about to tell him my issue, but after not even 2 seconds he looks up and stares angrily and says again, this time in a clearly annoyed tone “Can I help you?!”, as if my presence was SUCH a big inconvenience to his night. He was rude, unprofessional, and very short the rest of our interaction too. Like sir… you are literally at the front desk and act this way when a guest comes up to you?? After I received my card, someone else walked up and said “hey how are you” to him. Same thing, just no response and didn’t even look at them. I left before I could hear how the rest of their conversation went. I really wanted to go back and let him know what a complete jerk he was being but I decided against it. I get that he probably wasn’t used to being customer facing (I seriously hope not) but regardless, basic manners and respect were clearly lacking. I hope a manager sees this and addresses this man’s unnecessary behavior. Other than that, place was just alright. Bed and especially pillows were uncomfortable and despite me having a high Marriott status, I was never offered the welcome gift that I have received at every other Marriott location.
Overall great experience - large rooms, well-equipped, with kitchenettes. Gym, laundry, free parking and free breakfast - would be ideal for long stays if you needed it. Easy access across the bridge if you want to be on 17 as well.
Hotel is nice. Rooms are spacious. The location is short ride to Charleston, SC. Mt. Pleasant, SC also has great restaurants and options for tourist. Bed comfortable. Staff was nice and professional. Parking is free. Housekeeping services are limited to 3rd day but the room is not equipped with extra towels until housekeeping services are provided. Also there are limited places to dispose of trash on non housekeeping days.
If you want a moldy room and terrible service please stay here. It’s dirty & musty. After several conversations the asst manager told me it’s a known issue but she can’t close more rooms due to lost revenue. Manager Whitney said they would make it right and didn’t. General manager Kyle returned 0 phone calls. They charged us extra instead of refunding. Had to go through our credit card company to fix it. Breakfast stunk, service was careless. Marriott fail.
Good Prooerty and location, but no one ever cleaned the room during the entire stay, even after asking!! No one really seemed that they wanted to be helpful at the front desk either.
What really made my visit the best was the lady at the front desk, she was so helpful and so kind. I’ve been having to come to Charleston for cancer treatment, which is no fun, but she helps make it a little better by treating guest so good. She even remembered me from a week ago. Will absolutely be back. Highly recommend!
Lady at check in needs to be more nice to people. Room smelled musty refrigerator froze all out drinks. I let the lady at the check in know she wasn’t concerned at all . The last time I stayed was much more pleasant than this one. May not stay here again.
I've definitely stayed in much nicer SpringHill Suites and wouldn't have chosen this one except it was required by the baseball tournament we are here to play in. The guy who works the front desk at night (Michael?)....I don't think hospitality work is for him whatsoever. You're bothering him if you speak to him, his tone is rude and condescending, and it's really off putting to have someone so unapproachable working front desk. Another person in our group also didn't receive a warm welcome from the woman working at the desk when she arrived. She was EXTREMELY rude for no reason once she found out we were here with a baseball team. (Dear staff, we would have chosen a much nicer hotel with more hospitable staff if it were allowed per tournament rules.) The coffee sucks, the breakfast is bad even for a low budget hotel, and the rooms aren't as clean as I would expect. They are also quite stingy with bath towels. Rooms are only serviced every other day. Pets are allowed but there's no grass for them nearby. The pool looks like you'd catch a disease from it. Gross hotel. Look elsewhere if you're headed to the Mt. Pleasant are.
Room and location was good. But customer service (front desk) was poor and unprofessional. No greetings or smiles and felt as though they weren’t bothered at all about their taking care of hotel guests Just hoping and doing the bare minimum. In fact, one evening, the staff on duty became hostile (I had thought she had given me the wrong change of coins for laundry which can happen in any innocent transaction , but she got mad and started accusing me of falsely accusing her for cheating which was not at all what I was saying or thinking at all. Not only that, she gave me a look (real scary!) as if ready for a fight. I did notice at the beginning that she was already unwilling and unfriendly (even before I ask). Does that mean guests of this hotel should be afraid of asking for help at this establishment? We will definitely take this complaint further up the chain. While we are gold members, just basic human courtesy and respect would have been enough. This is not even about service anymore. But nastiness. We have stayed at Marriott hotels all over and this is our first encounter of this sort. This is definitely not the Marriott we know. Hope the management can look into this and rectify. It looks like I am not the first person who has complained about poor customer care at this particular establishment if you read other reviews. It really affects one’s vacation and steals joy.
High service is the key to keep your customers back. I fall in love with Charleston especially with this hotel. Amazing location close to ocean and big bridge. People working hard to keep your room clean. Breakfast delicious and clean zone. A cozy balcony above the pool reloads for a beautiful day. And helping with everything else receptionist Maya. She was very pleasant and kind. Always happy to came back
