The Sleep Inn Charleston offers a budget-friendly option with convenient access to downtown Charleston, but receives mixed reviews regarding cleanliness and maintenance. Recent feedback highlights concerns about dated rooms, pest issues, and inconsistent service, while some guests appreciate the comfortable beds and convenient location.

Easy location to get too, front desk staff are incredibly nice. I will definitely stay here again. Only reason for 4 stars not 5 is the rooms are a bit older with cheap furniture. That being said they definitely are clean and well put together. No complaints, just room for slight improvement!

My review is from someone who didn’t stay there as the front desk person was so off putting and negative I left and found another hotel. It was as if she didn’t want me to stay there and made it adversarial to book a room for the night. I’m not really sure why there was an instant negative attitude when I walked in. I’m easy going and have never had such an experience. So much for souther hospitality at this hotel!

If you're looking for a hotel to stay, I'd highly advise you not to stay here. We booked from 04/17/2026 - 04/20/2026 and were on the third floor when we walked into our room and it was filthy, filled with a moist moldy smell, there were spiders crawling on the pillows in the far corner of the bed that end3d up not getting slept on that we discoverd later that first night. Under all the covers, the beds themselves had orange stains, our lamp was infested with some sort of mold or fungus, the fan blades were bent down due to all the moisture, and the wooden entertainment center had looked like something was eating at it. After waking up we both felt Nauseous and the air felt very thick. I also went to get some breakfast and the sausage was hard, and everything tasted off and left a bad aftertaste. We saw 2 rooms getting cleaned on the same floor, opposite side so we peaked into one and there were no smells, everything was clean and it was vibrant. We went down to the front desk to request a room change and they said they were completely full, yet when I bought up the 2 units we had seen they said they weren't aware of them and instinctively said they weren't available since they needed to get "checked" and brought to their attention. We were told to come back later and ask. (Why would they not contact me if they have my phone number AND email?) That was early in the morning on the 18th. Later that day around 5pm after we got back from venturing we had went down and asked, but this time there was a Lady with a bit of an attitude. We had told her what the other representative had told us and she said that she saw nothing available on the 3rd floor for the units we were talking about. Instead she told us only one unit on the first floor same column and when we had walked in it it stenched worse, much darker, and just as dirty. We decided to leave and make our trip back home, cancling the booking and now waiting for my refund. My thing is, sure... it's and older hotel and it's gonna have its flaws. But It can still be old AND clean. And the fact they didn't want to give us the clearly open and ready clean room, with even a better air-conditioner that was sealed, is wild to me. It was very disappointing to have to drive all the way out there, cut the trip down an entire 2 nights and just to leave 1 day after getting there and driving all the way back because of the hotel sitting at horribly low standards. All in all, never staying at a Sleep Inn again

Positives… Great location, and comfortable beds Negatives… An older hotel that needs to update its rooms with paint and newer fixtures. Lots of dings in the walls and doors. Sheets had fabric pills. Housekeeping did not visit us which was a huge disappointment due to us needing clean towels, and our trash was overflowing. Three out of four staff members we encountered were not friendly at all.

Stayed here one night on way to Savannah. There were cosmetic issues (e.g., holes in walls in common areas) but room was clean and bed comfortable. Breakfast was better than expected. Exterior door to/from entrance was ill-fitting and difficult to open ... you'd think owners would make fixing it a priority since it's a challenge for all guests.

There were good things about my five day stay. But it’s those bad things that make the experience not so enjoyable. The little things Ike the dirty carpet and the almost not lit parking lot was nothing like the amount of roaches that were in the room. If the manager would have given me the money I paid so I could leave and go to a different hotel I would have. They said that there was nothing they could do, company policy. The simple fact that you are woken up by something crawling on you is worth you getting your money back. After reading the reviews which I should have paid more attention to, I know I will get a generic apology response that they will fix the problem. My question is there were many prior complaints about roaches in the room . Why didn’t they fix the problem then so I wouldn’t have to have that experience? One person not going back to that hotel will not make a dent to your bottom line. But doing the right thing to compensate for a horrible experience would make the difference to one person. 02/17/2025

This is a very nice hotel for the price - not your standard motel associated with Choice Hotels - and it's very close to downtown Charleston. I stay here very often because its close to downtown and I visit Charles monthly for business.. If you stay downtown Charleston you'll pay triple the price. The staff at this hotel are nice. The hotel is clean and safe. And there is a Whole Foods Market just a few blocks away. However there is one annoying flaw to staying here. Their billing system is a problem. They will double charge you for the $60 deposit - and sometime they will double charge you for the room cost. It's a problem with the hotel. I have complained about it many times but they won't change it. They just say, that's the way our billing system works. Not true. I stay at Choice hotels all over the US and this is the only hotel that does this. For all the good things I can say about this hotel, this problem is annoying. Eventually (a week to 10 days later) they will correct the double charges on your credit/debit card and then take the double charges off your card. They need to change this billing practice. What most annoying is that know they double charge people, and their response is - sorry. But they won't change their practices. I'd like to say to the hotel - stop doing this. You can correct it. So correct it.

My 2 night experience wasn’t bad but not what I would call standard hospitality. The comforter was soiled or stained. None of the ice machines worked except the 2nd floor. The receptionist on the weekend day and night seemed bothered and occupied. Breakfast was fresh and nice variety. I’m also still waiting on my deposit back..maybe the timing was just off for both me and sleep inn. I’d give it another chance.

Descent price for a holiday weekend. Beds Are comfortable. Roomkey pads on room door did not work so we had to get reception to let us in every time. Saw 2 roaches. No ice machine on 3rd floor. 1st day fine, 2nd day the waffle batter was sour. This hotel needs immediate updates. The carpets need to come up and hotel needs a deep cleaning. Room service knocked on our door at 9am but checkout is at 11am.

The breakfast tasted old and borderline unsafe. The carpet is worn and the walls need a paint job. There are two dirty chairs in the lobby. After checking in I felt like our vehicle wasn’t parked in a safe area. A Google search stated vehicle thefts and break-in’s were a problem in the area. The only good thing I can say is that the bedding was comfortable and appeared to be clean, although we saw two roaches during our visit. Sorry cannot recommend this hotel.
