The Sleep Inn Charleston offers a budget-friendly option for travelers, particularly those seeking proximity to downtown Charleston. However, recent reviews consistently highlight significant cleanliness issues, dated facilities, and operational problems like billing errors and pest concerns, impacting the overall guest experience. Despite some positive comments about bed comfort and staff friendliness, substantial improvements are needed to meet acceptable standards.

Positives… Great location, and comfortable beds Negatives… An older hotel that needs to update its rooms with paint and newer fixtures. Lots of dings in the walls and doors. Sheets had fabric pills. Housekeeping did not visit us which was a huge disappointment due to us needing clean towels, and our trash was overflowing. Three out of four staff members we encountered were not friendly at all.

Stayed here one night on way to Savannah. There were cosmetic issues (e.g., holes in walls in common areas) but room was clean and bed comfortable. Breakfast was better than expected. Exterior door to/from entrance was ill-fitting and difficult to open ... you'd think owners would make fixing it a priority since it's a challenge for all guests.

There were good things about my five day stay. But it’s those bad things that make the experience not so enjoyable. The little things Ike the dirty carpet and the almost not lit parking lot was nothing like the amount of roaches that were in the room. If the manager would have given me the money I paid so I could leave and go to a different hotel I would have. They said that there was nothing they could do, company policy. The simple fact that you are woken up by something crawling on you is worth you getting your money back. After reading the reviews which I should have paid more attention to, I know I will get a generic apology response that they will fix the problem. My question is there were many prior complaints about roaches in the room . Why didn’t they fix the problem then so I wouldn’t have to have that experience? One person not going back to that hotel will not make a dent to your bottom line. But doing the right thing to compensate for a horrible experience would make the difference to one person. 02/17/2025

This is a very nice hotel for the price - not your standard motel associated with Choice Hotels - and it's very close to downtown Charleston. I stay here very often because its close to downtown and I visit Charles monthly for business.. If you stay downtown Charleston you'll pay triple the price. The staff at this hotel are nice. The hotel is clean and safe. And there is a Whole Foods Market just a few blocks away. However there is one annoying flaw to staying here. Their billing system is a problem. They will double charge you for the $60 deposit - and sometime they will double charge you for the room cost. It's a problem with the hotel. I have complained about it many times but they won't change it. They just say, that's the way our billing system works. Not true. I stay at Choice hotels all over the US and this is the only hotel that does this. For all the good things I can say about this hotel, this problem is annoying. Eventually (a week to 10 days later) they will correct the double charges on your credit/debit card and then take the double charges off your card. They need to change this billing practice. What most annoying is that know they double charge people, and their response is - sorry. But they won't change their practices. I'd like to say to the hotel - stop doing this. You can correct it. So correct it.

My 2 night experience wasn’t bad but not what I would call standard hospitality. The comforter was soiled or stained. None of the ice machines worked except the 2nd floor. The receptionist on the weekend day and night seemed bothered and occupied. Breakfast was fresh and nice variety. I’m also still waiting on my deposit back..maybe the timing was just off for both me and sleep inn. I’d give it another chance.

Descent price for a holiday weekend. Beds Are comfortable. Roomkey pads on room door did not work so we had to get reception to let us in every time. Saw 2 roaches. No ice machine on 3rd floor. 1st day fine, 2nd day the waffle batter was sour. This hotel needs immediate updates. The carpets need to come up and hotel needs a deep cleaning. Room service knocked on our door at 9am but checkout is at 11am.

The breakfast tasted old and borderline unsafe. The carpet is worn and the walls need a paint job. There are two dirty chairs in the lobby. After checking in I felt like our vehicle wasn’t parked in a safe area. A Google search stated vehicle thefts and break-in’s were a problem in the area. The only good thing I can say is that the bedding was comfortable and appeared to be clean, although we saw two roaches during our visit. Sorry cannot recommend this hotel.

We stayed one night because I had an eye doctor appt. Nikki at the front desk allowed for us to have an early check in since I was going to have my eyes dialated at my appt. She was so kind. She even gave us 2 bottles of her water when I asked her if they had any. Our room was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was delicious. We will definitely choose to stay again if we are in Charleston.

My husband and I have stayed at this location before, don't know what happened but we won't stay again. The lady who checked us in was amazing as well as the thin night clerk. Upon check in she worked to get us a room on top floor close to elevator because my husband has mobility issues and quite for my chihuahua who has cancer. The elevator and hall reeked of Marijuana. The man next to us listened to his TV so loud I thought perhaps he was deaf. I could hear the TV show he was watching. With our TV on, the AC on and my noise machine, it finally drowned it out. The carpet was black, the bathroom door when slid closed was covered in dust, you could not adjust the refrigerator temperature because the knob was broken off, there was no microwave, none of the plugs would hold our chargers, they kept falling out and the bathroom plug worked 1st time I plugged up my curling iron, 2nd time, nothing!! The hotel has 3 ice machines. Our first day, none of them worked. I was told I could go to the sister property next door and use theirs! Well I wasn't staying at the sister property, I was staying there!! My husband tried to get a parking spot in the front which is also shared by the " sister property" , usually not possible. Then you have to park in the back where several of the workers were gathered listening to music, smoking and drinking. That is where the 3 handicap parking spots are located!!!! This door is kept locked so my husband was forced to walk completely around. I will be making a telephone call to ADA in South Carolina because I am certain this is a violation of the Americans Disability Act. Lock a door at the handicap entrance. I shared my experience with the tall, thin night clerk and he said he understands but he hardly ever sees Gerald and has voiced these concerns several times. ***Gerald, do not bother to respond with your same generic reply you copy to everyone. You can explain to ADA office.

Wonderful people at front desk during our visit. I've seen better selection at breakfast. 4 lights in back parking lot out, 1 on sidewalk heading to back lot. Back door entrance you couldn't access with your key 1 room clean, 2nd room bathroom wasn't very good. We ended up with paying for an extra roll for the 2 nights even though when my mom called and made reservations she stated 3 adults, needed the handicap accessible bathroom with bars for toilet and if a tub bars. They had a 2 bed with walk in shower, no bar for toilet or a 1 bed total handicap accessible tub etc. So it was a double the cost trip. We had her dog and it was 11 pm. We didn't have a lot of choices and they were going to charge her for the 1 room anyway as it was past cancel time frame
