Courtyard Charleston Waterfront offers scenic views of the Ashley River and a relaxing stay just minutes from downtown Charleston. Guests can enjoy modern accommodations, a refreshing outdoor pool, and easy access to historic attractions, shops, and dining. With spacious rooms, a fitness center, and on-site dining, this hotel provides both comfort and convenience for business and leisure travelers.
The Courtyard by Marriott Charleston Waterfront receives generally positive reviews, primarily driven by its convenient location, friendly staff, and shuttle service to downtown. However, recurring concerns regarding cleanliness, dated rooms, and occasional facility issues (like elevator problems and inconsistent AC performance) are evident. While some guests appreciate the waterfront views and bistro options, significant improvements are needed to fully meet guest expectations, especially considering the hotel's price point.
$15/day to park, no free breakfast, nowhere in walking distance to eat, no exercise room/equipmen. 1 broken elevator. Can't even get a hot shower as water temp does not get above lukewarm. There is a free shuttle to the historic district though. Never stayed at a hotel with absolutely nothing free that is worthwhile . Would never stay here again.
My sister and I stayed here for a week while my mom had surgery at MUSC. The complimentary shuttle this hotel offers was more helpful than we could’ve imagined. The drivers were all so friendly and hospitable, and the shuttle was reliable. Aside from that, the hotel itself is beautiful. The location on the water was so peaceful to come back to each day. The pool looked nice, but too cold to swim during our stay. The housekeeping staff do a great job keeping all areas in the lobby and in the rooms clean. The lobby area is very spacious so we could unwind for a bit before going up to the room. There is a restaurant in the lobby where we had dinners and drinks. They offer breakfast, but I didn’t have the chance to partake. The food for dinner was amazing and reasonably priced, which also made our week easier. All of the staff were so welcoming and helpful during our stay. I am not the best at remembering names, but I remember speaking to Mariah, the assistant manager, on the shuttle. She was wearing many hats that night, from driving the shuttle to helping inside the hotel between drives. She spoke so highly of her staff and hotel, and had a lot of pride in her role. All of the staff, from the restaurant, housekeeping and front desk, to the shuttle drivers and management, make this hotel is phenomenal. I hope I won’t need to stay here for another surgery, but I would definitely stay here again for any reason. Thank you to all of the staff here for making a stressful week much easier! Words can’t express our gratitude.
We just checked out of this place this afternoon. The hotel staff was absolutely amazing. Mariah, the assistant GM, checked us in and assisted us with a modification to our reservation with no issues. The shuttle to the downtown area is very convenient. If you get a chance to ride with either Rick or Eddie they will both excellent recommendations for eateries and give you some history of Charleston itself. We got the chance to stay in one of the newly renovated rooms which looked absolutely amazing. The beds were very comfortable, and it had all the amenities you needed. The hotel going through a refresh now for the rest of the rooms. Even though the hotel was sold out for the nights that we were there It did not feel crowded. Thank you again to the stuff for a great stay. We will see you again when we return.
Great stay overall! The hotel has beautiful waterfront views, especially at sunset, and the rooms are spacious and clean. The pool area by the water is very relaxing. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the shuttle to downtown Charleston was very convenient. It starts from 7am itself. It’s a short drive from the historic district, which made getting around easy. Would definitely recommend for a peaceful stay near downtown. The food options at bistro bar is really good. The staff of bistro bar is polite and helpful.
Checking in from the evening shift the front desk staff member was warm and welcoming. Im still not sure why there is a 15$ parking fee when there is no security associated with it. A pretty bad money grab. Getting into the room, I noticed several things that let me know it was dated. 1st the thermostat on the wall was loose and didnt work properly. I was too tired from traveling to even complain, but when I laid in the bed, it was stiff as a brick on a cold Alaska morning, not comfortable at all, and interrupted my sleep the whole night. When I went to check out in the morning, the front desk staff attendant didnt greet me, no good morning, just a look like "are you in the right ppace". Sadly I wasnt asked how my stay was and was only offered a generic "is a receipt to your email ok, or would you like a paper copy?" I responded with "since you weren't going to ask me about my stay, let me address the discrepancies I experienced during my stay." I then expressed what I stated previously. Her response was an insincere apology that was far from heartfelt along with her telling me that she would inform maintenance. The sad part is that in the world of hospitality weather or not you have loyalty to a brand, customers should be treated well, as long as they are respectful as well. The energy was automatically off from my approach to the desk all the way to my complaint in which no recompense was provided. As a loyalty member who stays at a minimum of 30 nights a year with Marriott, the marginal effort provided by the morning front desk associate on January 12, 2026, needs a serious inquiry or retraining in standards of customer hospitality instead of the employee just coming to the job and going through the motions. Ill stay elsewhere next time I come for business or pleasure.
The location of this hotel is excellent and the view from my room which was the best part of my stay. Unfortunately, the experience was significantly impacted by the front desk service and cleanliness issues. The front desk staff weren't welcoming, which made check-in and communication unpleasant. Cleanliness was a major concern. The coffee maker in my room was visibly unclean and more concerning, I encountered a cockroach in the room during my stay. This is unacceptable for any hotel, regardless of price point. While the location is great, management should seriously address staff training and cleanliness standards before I could recommend this hotel.
This hotel is just meh overall. The ac unit and toilet barely worked. And I mean barely!! The ac turned on when IT wanted to turn on no matter how much we messed with it. We kept having to hold the flush down on the toilet and/or flushing it multiple times to make it flush properly and that was so annoying! In fact when we got to the room it was running until I made it stop running with a flush! The sliding doors to the bathroom did not close all the way, either. Now the room was clean, and the parking garage was convenient (if you could find a spot). The hotel is also in a great spot if you want to get anywhere in the city, and it was affordable. I probably wouldn’t stay here again, though. While I was in downtown I visited some way nicer hotels, so that’s where I’ll be staying next time
Great location. Free shuttle into town. The Bistro was fantastic. Food was very good. Rooms were quiet and clean! Everything in the hotel was very clean. Demitrika at the front desk was very sweet and helpful. Would definitely stay again.
We stayed at Courtyard Charleston Waterfront and were honestly a bit disappointed compared to what is shown online. First downside: there is no real breakfast. Only a Starbucks on site, with very limited options, which is not convenient at all—especially when traveling with children. For a hotel of this category, we expected much better. Speaking of which, this hotel is not recommended for families with kids. It doesn’t feel child-friendly, neither in services nor in overall atmosphere. The hotel also feels quite dated. Rooms and common areas would really benefit from a refresh. Lastly, the photos are misleading: the reality does not match what is advertised. Overall, the location is fine, but the value for money isn’t there, and we wouldn’t choose this hotel again, particularly when traveling with children.
The hotel was clean, comfortable, and in a great location. The staff were all super friendly and helpful—really made the stay pleasant. The only downside was the bar. Drinks were a bit overpriced, and the bartender kept using an already-open can of tonic, which felt a little cheap for the price point. Other than that, everything else was great, and I’d definitely stay here again.
