Hotel Bella Grace is a well-located boutique hotel in downtown Charleston, offering spacious rooms and a stylish, art-filled atmosphere. Recent reviews highlight its convenient location and comfortable rooms, but also reveal issues with reservation fulfillment, cleanliness inconsistencies, and a lack of amenities. It appears the hotel is struggling to maintain the high standards of a Marriott property while reflecting a more independent, boutique experience.
This is a nice, clean, and well located Marriot residence inn (dont forget to get your points!). The rooms are spacious, have full kitchens with appliances, and nice big showers. Short stays are welcome too of course, I visited for just one night and it was perfect. Great location, one block from King Street's shopping and dinning and Market Street. Functional and efficient rooms with plenty of storage space, clothes hangers, and a desk/vanity area. Hope to come back again soon!
The hotel itself was generally nice and updated, which is why I’m giving it 2 stars instead of 1. Unfortunately, the stay was overshadowed by a reservation issue that staff made no effort to resolve. I booked and received confirmation for a double-queen room for three adults, but upon arrival we were given a king room with a pullout sofa. The hotel acknowledged there had been an issue with the reservation and stated that they had notified the travel portal/credit card travel service that double-queen rooms were unavailable. However, I was never informed of any change before arrival or I would never have booked Hotel Bella Grace in the first place. What made the situation even more frustrating was that the hotel blamed the travel portal for the issue, while the travel portal later pointed the finger back at the hotel. As the guest, I was stuck in the middle while neither side took responsibility or offered a meaningful resolution. The pullout bed that was supposed to serve as a sleeping space for an adult was extremely thin and uncomfortable, and both the couch that was supposed to be the headrest and the mattress had visible, gross stains on them. In addition, the shower had buildup and grime in the corners, which made the room feel less clean than expected and not worth the price. It was very easy to get trapped in the bathroom as the sliding glass barn door would get stuck and someone would have to open it from the outside. Mistakes happen, but what was most disappointing was the lack of accountability and customer service. Had anyone taken ownership of the problem or made a genuine effort to make things right, my review would likely be very different. As a Marriott Bonvoy member, I’m extremely disappointed and would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
We stayed at this hotel for one night. We were very unsatisfied with the room which was small as a "bird cage". We were overcharged for this room due to "holiday season", and when we asked for a room change, it wasn't honored. The explanation was "we are overbooked"! We booked through Expedia, and the picture we were given showed a nice spacious room. Expedia says the hotel sent them the pictures. So don't be fooled by the pictures you see!. Expedia seems to have a deal with these mediocre hotels, to overrate them, and to bring in unsuspecting folks like us. The hotel has no lobby, and the elevator was dirty. I would never return here!
Cute little boutique hotel. There are no services or amenities. No way to order food so just be prepared to DoorDash or Uber eats any meals. Small snack bar in the front desk area. There is no lobby, but there is one meeting room that is usually booked near the front desk check-in. I saw multiple offsite vendors doing presentations there. There’s no place to work or set up your laptop unless you plan on staying in your room the whole time. Great location.
Room size: large, cool looking, full kitchen. Bed(baseline my bed is an 8): 7/10 little hard underneath with a decent topper. Pillows:4/10 flat and not supportive Noise (outside/other rooms/ hallway): no noise between rooms but could easily hear into the hallway. Luckily it was generally a pretty quiet hotel. Bathroom (shower): 7/10 water pressure, water got a little cold during peak shower times. Good size bathroom with appropriate counter space Cleanliness: 10/10 spotless Cool factor:9/10 - great art and stylistic feel all around. Entire hotel was incredibly decorated with a mysterious theme, even the elevators. Bar: none Amenities: none Location: easily walkable to upper king and lower king. Great location right in the middle. Overall would stay again night have been on the top coolest/ unique hotels.
Nice boutique hotel in Charleston. Close to King Street with its little shops and restaurants. The rooms are spacious, well appointed and clean. There is no restaurant in the hotel, but the Delaney Oyster House I right next door, literally a 30 second walk. This is a great launching point from which to explore Charleston, which is a very walkable city.. I highly recommend the Hotel Bella Grace in Charleston!
We went to Charleston for my birthday and the Riverfront Revival Music Festival. Bella Grace is a nice small boutique hotel. Parking is around $50 daily and it is valet only. Staff are super friendly and very helpful. It's a short walk to downtown. Rooms are clean with stylish decor. Our room had a kitchenette that was handy to stir up some breakfast in the room before venturing out. They have housekeeping daily if you need it. No problems getting extra towels, extra coffee pods, dishwashing supplies, etc. The Delaney Oyster House is next door serving up great food with that Charleston flair. Would have no problem staying there again.
Lifetime platinum member - current Titanium member. Stayed here over the weekend, October 22nd through October 26th. First things first. This hotel is one of the most poorest run/managed hotels I have stayed at in the Marriott portfolio. I stay at over a 100 a year. This hotel charges you an "advanced deposit fee" for the rate of the first night before you even check in! Not one hotel in the Marriott group has EVER done that. Not one. This fee was irreversible as i was so rudely told by the front desk as I wanted to change the card to my marriott bonvoy card. Secondly, I stayed here back in 2020 and had a lovely experience. The hotel was inviting, warm, and offered titanium members breakfast vouchers. Come to my surprise they stopped this practice. What Residence inn doesn't offer breakfast to their guest let alone a titanium member!? I could have stayed at other numerous hotels in the area that would offer this perk with hesitation. Totally turned off by this gesture. Room service was requested but rarely performed. Rooms were OK but not up to the level it once was. Staff was disingenuous and un attentive. Will 100% not stay here again when I travel back to Charleston and will be telling my work colleagues. Do better or leave the Marriott brand. Disgraceful
AVOID. Almost 700 for one of the worst showers I’ve ever had. Will stay elsewhere next trip down. Follow up email from Robyn was comical. Just apologize for the bad experience instead of saying it was my fault for not essentially leaving my shower midway to raise the concern. Ensure you hotel is at the level you are advertising it as. Marriott needs to downgrade this hotel to 3 stars. Also the review from Robyn H is clearly from the GM, Robyn Hines. Wow, lady. Just fix the issues with your hotel and treat people better.
We stayed at Hotel Bella Grace for two nights and had such a great experience. The hotel is in a nice, quiet area which made it super easy to relax and get really good sleep. The bed was super comfy and the whole place felt peaceful. The decor throughout the hotel is beautiful—modern, stylish, with original art on the walls in hallways. It has a calm, upscale vibe without feeling too formal. There’s also a great restaurant on-site. The food was delicious and it was so convenient to have a good dining option right there without needing to go out.
