Hotel Bella Grace offers a convenient and stylish base for exploring Charleston, particularly praised for its location near King Street and the nearby Delaney Oyster House. However, recent reviews highlight inconsistent service, unexpected fees, and issues with room conditions, particularly regarding cleanliness and maintenance.
Nice boutique hotel in Charleston. Close to King Street with its little shops and restaurants. The rooms are spacious, well appointed and clean. There is no restaurant in the hotel, but the Delaney Oyster House I right next door, literally a 30 second walk. This is a great launching point from which to explore Charleston, which is a very walkable city.. I highly recommend the Hotel Bella Grace in Charleston!
We went to Charleston for my birthday and the Riverfront Revival Music Festival. Bella Grace is a nice small boutique hotel. Parking is around $50 daily and it is valet only. Staff are super friendly and very helpful. It's a short walk to downtown. Rooms are clean with stylish decor. Our room had a kitchenette that was handy to stir up some breakfast in the room before venturing out. They have housekeeping daily if you need it. No problems getting extra towels, extra coffee pods, dishwashing supplies, etc. The Delaney Oyster House is next door serving up great food with that Charleston flair. Would have no problem staying there again.
Lifetime platinum member - current Titanium member. Stayed here over the weekend, October 22nd through October 26th. First things first. This hotel is one of the most poorest run/managed hotels I have stayed at in the Marriott portfolio. I stay at over a 100 a year. This hotel charges you an "advanced deposit fee" for the rate of the first night before you even check in! Not one hotel in the Marriott group has EVER done that. Not one. This fee was irreversible as i was so rudely told by the front desk as I wanted to change the card to my marriott bonvoy card. Secondly, I stayed here back in 2020 and had a lovely experience. The hotel was inviting, warm, and offered titanium members breakfast vouchers. Come to my surprise they stopped this practice. What Residence inn doesn't offer breakfast to their guest let alone a titanium member!? I could have stayed at other numerous hotels in the area that would offer this perk with hesitation. Totally turned off by this gesture. Room service was requested but rarely performed. Rooms were OK but not up to the level it once was. Staff was disingenuous and un attentive. Will 100% not stay here again when I travel back to Charleston and will be telling my work colleagues. Do better or leave the Marriott brand. Disgraceful
AVOID. Almost 700 for one of the worst showers I’ve ever had. Will stay elsewhere next trip down. Follow up email from Robyn was comical. Just apologize for the bad experience instead of saying it was my fault for not essentially leaving my shower midway to raise the concern. Ensure you hotel is at the level you are advertising it as. Marriott needs to downgrade this hotel to 3 stars. Also the review from Robyn H is clearly from the GM, Robyn Hines. Wow, lady. Just fix the issues with your hotel and treat people better.
We stayed at Hotel Bella Grace for two nights and had such a great experience. The hotel is in a nice, quiet area which made it super easy to relax and get really good sleep. The bed was super comfy and the whole place felt peaceful. The decor throughout the hotel is beautiful—modern, stylish, with original art on the walls in hallways. It has a calm, upscale vibe without feeling too formal. There’s also a great restaurant on-site. The food was delicious and it was so convenient to have a good dining option right there without needing to go out.
This hotel was a very nice change from the usual Marriott. Very comfortable, well maintained, and charming in many ways. The associated restaurant was excellent, with great service, and very good food. On the other hand, the up-charges by Marriott properties are completely out of hand. For this property, there's only one option for parking your car - with the valet - and they charge $55 for an overnight. This is reminiscent of the "destination charges" that many other Marriott properties force you to eat, and makes you feel like you are being gouged despite the other fine attributes of the property.
I stayed here a couple weeks ago and had an issue with the room. I was told a manager would reach out to me but it never happened. I did a follow up call and was put on hold only to get a rude response saying to look out for a manager to contact me. I am an elite member and was treated horribly. Staff at other hotels in the area are much better. For a luxury hotel the service is not up to standard. Room was okay but will be avoiding this place in the future. I’m not one to leave a negative review but I feel like I need to say something.
Business owner offers excuses many days later. We did not get an upgraded even with extra points paid for the upgrade. Would not take illness as a refund from a nearly 70 year old, high level Marriott rewards member. Even after two emails from Marriott Ambassador service. STAY at The Courtyard next door. Terrible experience. Would not refund pts to a high level Marriott rewards person who wanted to leave early, due to illness. Would not return extra points paid. Paid for an extra upgrade with points and still felt the room was just average. Not your usual residence inn. Staff is horrible for anyone over 30. No amenities and even the restaurant across the drive did not give the hotel good reviews. Close to Kings street but go to the Courtyard next door.
This is mine and my husband hotel of choice. We've stayed five times plus each visit being incredible. I'm a Ritz Carlton fan due to level of personal service. The staff is incredible and sets and exceeds that high level of service I demand and expect. Take the fact its a Residence Inn out of the equation. I have no issue with the brand however Bella Grace delivers a close to five star personal experience. Each stay we would ask the staff for there personal recommendations of restaurants and such. Each visit I was addressed as Mr Carino. This was an incredible personal touch that made me and my husband feel valued and special. They connect personally with the guests and yes as they get to know you and learn about you refer you to things they know you will enjoy. My husband picked the hotel as he's an interior designer and the hotel decor was featured in a magazine he reads. Each room has its own identity, fantastic art work in the lobby to the rooms with rooms featuring all types of decor and design. The hotel dead on hits the boutique meaning and level of comfort I expect. I'm now Gold for Life, at the times of visits was Titanium or Platinum. Located next to the hotel is James Beard recipient Delanys Oyster Bar which like the hotel meets guests the highest standards of guest experience. Add to this fantastic food and drink. The hotel is a walk to everything so once we valet we no longer need the car. The staff was always recommending us to places they thought we would enjoy which was based off them getting to know us. I can't say enough great things. I've opened restaurants around the world and am the namesake of a chain that in its peak had over two hundred locations. Customer service so very much lacking today is a personal goal I set for every guest and client myself and my staff strive for everyday. I Mention this as the hotel represents and exceeds my expectations on every level. If your considering hotels you wont be disappointed choosing Hotel Bella Grace
