Recent guest reviews paint a mixed picture of the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina, primarily focused on the older Harbour side. While some guests praise the location, beautiful views, and friendly staff, numerous concerns have been raised regarding cleanliness, dated rooms, and inconsistent service. The newer Beach Club side receives more positive feedback, but comes with a higher price tag. Notably, several reviewers experienced issues with billing discrepancies and unresponsive management.

This review is regarding Marina facility, not the hotel. The good: Nice location and good docks, equipment etc. The bad: I was on a short term contract with the understanding it would be changed to long term several months ago. I happen to look at a bank statement recently, and realized that they did not do that. As a result, I’ve paid them about $14,000 for 10 months of boat storage. They were unwilling to work with me on any kind of credit and wanted to stick me with an annual contract that would have a two month penalty if I move the boat out early. The manager is unwilling to give me any kind of credit. He talks a good game but is ineffective. Every time you email or call the accounting department they tell you to call the front desk. When you talk to the people at the front desk, they tell you to talk to the accounting department. Everyone else tells you to talk to the manager and he doesn’t help either. The whole experience has been a huge nightmare. I’m moving my boat to another marina in the next few days. The new place is happy to work with me and charging me about half the rate that this place was.

I cannot recommend staying AWAY from booking at the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina enough. The only saving point in the hotel was the location, but everything else was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had. We had contacted the hotel to book over the phone after having loss a family member that same day. We literally packed as soon as we got home, got in the car without a destination in mind, and made the booking on the road. I had spoken to Andrew and explained that I needed help because of this and that I was not in the right mindset to do it myself and asked how much it’d be, total. After quoting, we gave the card info over the phone and he said we’d get an email for the quote. We never did, but again, I was not in my right state of mind. Once we got there, the first room had issues where the balcony door wouldn’t lock and the fireplace was broken. We called in and requested a new room and they moved us to another room that was located in the corner. It no longer had harbor views although that was what we paid for, but we were tired and just wanted to rest. The new room was not much better. The bathroom and floors were dirty, the fan did not work, the room showed it’s age with cracked moulding throughout the room, the bed-frame creaked, and the decorative pillows smelled. Near the end, the AC/heating unit also stopped working. When we called, they offered to send someone the next morning or move us, but we were nearing checkout and just dealt with it. In the end, we were overall okay with the cost because it gave us an escape during our grieving, so we were going to swallow the original charge. However, once our card statement updated, it showed over $400 more than was quoted. I checked my email, including the spam folder, and was never provided a receipt. When we checked out, we were told we were going to get a copy of the receipt to our provided email. I even had them spell out the email to me. I called in to get an explanation and they told me it was for resort fees and taxes. When asked, they said that resort fees were not quoted and that they ‘assumed people knew’, but that if I had wanted the total, I would have asked for it. I explained that I had and they said they were going to transfer me to a manager who offered a small credit which did not touch the cost difference. Even the simple request of sending a copy of the receipt has not been fulfilled. I feel taken advantage of, especially when I had specifically explained that we lost someone that same day and that we needed assistance and a safe place for respite. Normally, when I book hotels, I book it online and I read reviews. If I had been of sound mind, I would have never booked this place because the negative reviews are absolutely accurate. I would never and will never book here again. Please take your money and put it towards any other hotel, because you can get a much nicer, newer, and better ran hotel for the same cost.

The location is excellent, and the amenities were enjoyable. However, the restaurant experience was disappointing and in need of significant improvement. The quality of the food was poor. Even a simple fish and chips dish was poorly prepared. Additionally, the cleanliness was concerning, with dirty glasses, mugs, and silverware. The breakfast buffet was acceptable but not worth the $22 price point. It was more convenient than it was good. While the restaurant staff were friendly and courteous, the restaurant appeared to be understaffed, which led to long wait times and impacted the overall dining experience.

It’s a beautiful resort, and my husband and I (with our baby) chose to stay here to celebrate our anniversary. Check-in was smooth, and the staff were friendly and welcoming, which we really appreciated. Our room was spacious, clean, and had a lovely harbor view. And surprisingly, the bed was very comfortable! We also really appreciated that our room was located between staff rooms, which added extra privacy and made the stay feel quieter and more comfortable. Another nice touch was the complimentary coffee offered in the lobby—it was great and genuinely delicious. There’s also an outdoor bar on the property that was closed during our stay, though I imagine the atmosphere is very pleasant during the summer months. The price felt a bit high though, especially considering the additional charges for amenities like the pool and hot tub, which weren’t really usable in January. We had hoped to use the hot tub, but unfortunately it wasn’t warm enough. When we first arrived, the light in the toilet room wasn’t working, and some of the recessed lights in the main room also wouldn’t turn on. The lamps provided enough light, so it wasn’t a major issue. When we mentioned it at checkout, we were told that certain switches need to be turned on in a specific order for the lights to work, which felt a bit complicated and unusual for a hotel stay. Another small inconvenience was the lack of a mini fridge in the room. The hotel offered us a pack and play at check-in, which we appreciated as parents. Unfortunately, the one brought to our room was dirty and broken, which was disappointing. Overall, the stay was nice, and the resort itself is beautiful. With a few improvements and clearer value for the price, it could be a great experience—especially during warmer months.

This place is a gem! We found it a bit by accident on our roadtrip from FL to NC. It was New Year's Day and fantastic. The location is practical, pretty, and historical. There's the submarine memorial, the USS York (Carrier), a Battleship, parks, groceries, and everything you need in the immediate vicinity. It's a big resort offering lots of activities on property including an outdoor area great for kids and adults to gather with a huge outdoor fireplace. The views were amazing and the room was quaint. We loved the nautical theme. It was too cold to get into the pool, but the pools looked nice. We would love to return when it's warmer and we can enjoy the outdoor areas more! Lastly, we didn't need services, but the front desk staff was much more polite and friendly than the snooty place we left in Savannah.

I visited my friends who are staying here and I have to say they have amazing views.Their rooms are spectacular.Everything was clean. My friends say that the bed was super comfortable. The area is safe and fantastic. A group of us which was ten of us because they had six different rooms rented at this hotel went to blum coffee and wine bar at night. For their amazing bar specials for wine, craft beer's ipas, which we all love and we certainly were not disappointed. we heard their coffee was pretty good. But we did go during the evening. The hotel smells amazing inside and we would all definitely come back here. And my friends would definitely stay again. 10 stars

We’ve stayed at the Beach Club three times now and have absolutely loved it every single time. We loved it so much that we chose it as the venue for our wedding, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions we made. The entire staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and genuinely welcoming. Everyone we interacted with went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and well taken care of. Our room was in excellent condition, and the food on-site was surprisingly great. It was far better than what you typically expect from a resort. My only complaint was there seems to be some plumbing issues with the hot tub and the air intakes are extremely noisy. A special shout-out goes to Georgia, who was truly exceptional to work with throughout the entire wedding planning process. She went above and beyond in every possible way and made our destination wedding feel effortless. No other venue or coordinator we considered came close to the level of care, flexibility, and support she provided. Thanks to her, our wedding weekend was everything we dreamed of and more. Our guests absolutely loved the resort. Many of them raved about the property, the service, and how beautiful and comfortable everything was. We could not have asked for a better place to celebrate such an important moment in our lives. We highly recommend the Beach Club for both a relaxing getaway and a wedding. It truly made our experience unforgettable.

This place was very clean, and the atmosphere was just as great. I’m glad I chose to stay here instead of being right in the heart of downtown. The walking trails were a pleasant surprise — they were much nicer than I expected. You can even sign out bikes, which are included as part of the amenities. The staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention the Keurigs for those who enjoy coffee or hot cocoa! The hotel is located within walking distance of the USS Laffey and the USS Yorktown Museum. If you’re a servicemember and wear your uniform, admission is free. I would definitely stay here again. There's a shuttle that you can get on that'll take you downtown for free and it's only about 15 minutes max.

We stayed here for our first anniversary/birthday trip and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. After working long days and arriving late Thursday, we were given a room that was already occupied—with someone in it—when we went to get settled. Instead of apologizing or trying to make it right, the front desk staff brushed it off and insisted that couldn’t be the case. Throughout our stay, the staff never felt friendly or welcoming. When we asked for extra towels, we were told they couldn’t provide any and that we should just use room service instead, which was frustrating. For the price you pay here, we expected much better. Overall, not a pleasurable stay and we would not recommend this hotel. On a positive note, The Fish House was excellent—friendly staff, great service, and delicious food. The spa was also a highlight and provided a much better experience than the hotel itself.

My favorite pool in all of SC! Hotel staff is friendly, the grounds are very well maintained, and there’s loads of activities on site & nearby. I personally prefer the Beach Club over the Harbor Resort in terms of room quality, but both provide a wonderful place to escape from the hustle and bustle of life. I’d love to see the bathrooms updated at the Harbor Resort, as they are very dated, kinda gross, and down right uncomfortable for showering. As the other reviews have noted, there is a half piece of glass and nothing else so showers are extremely cold and the shower head is the most ineffective, dinky little thing I have ever experienced. Plus the tub surround is so freaking tall that while stepping over it to get into the shower, I stubbed my toe, jamming it so that it was black and blue for the rest of the trip. Despite this, the rest of the room was absolutely gorgeous and wonderfully comfortable. Harbor views are beautiful, the pools and onsite food and beverages are great, and the bed sleeps like a dream. Can’t wait to return, though I’ll spend the extra money and stay at the Beach Club to avoid the bathroom fiasco.
