The Palmetto Hotel consistently receives positive reviews for its prime downtown Charleston location, stylish decor, and friendly staff. While many guests praise the hotel's charm and convenience, recurring concerns involve inconsistent housekeeping, noise levels from nearby construction and bars, and occasional service issues. Recent stays highlight issues such as leaky bathrooms and lack of functionality in room features.
The hotel was spotless and the front desk staff was amazing! The room was spacious and everything was decorated to the 9s. Location is amazing for getting to everything a tourist wants to see. Can't say enough good things about our stay.
Beautiful hotel with an exceptional lobby. Great bar with a killer espresso martini. Rooms are nicely designed with comfortable beds. Bathrooms were clean and had a huge shower. Staff were friendly and eager to help. Great location within walking distance to everything.
I wish I would have read the reviews more thoroughly before booking here. Pros: great location, beautiful renovations Cons: our room had a leak in the bathroom ceiling, which caused a puddle I slipped in whilst 7.5 months pregnant. the AC did not work from night one so we didn’t get any rest. Housekeeping did a poor job. We came back to messy beds, overflowing trash cans, and a room in disarray every day. One day they didn’t come at all! The valet didn’t help with luggage - which was awkward with me being 7.5 months pregnant. The breakfast was stale. The front desk staff was fine with us but I could hear them getting frustrated and acting rude towards an elderly guest. Overall this hotel lacks understanding of hotel fundamentals. They’re amateurs and do not live up to their price, nor rating.
We had a wonderful stay at this boutique hotel. Check in was smooth and Justin kindly fulfilled my request and gave me great local info. The location is near great restaurants. My room was nice, comfortable, and clean with a spa shower. The bed was firm but not overly so, and we slept well. The continental breakfast was surprisingly good with incredibly delicious pastries from a local bakery, boiled eggs, and grits. The only downside is having to pay for parking, but that is the case anywhere downtown. Thankfully, there is a garage directly behind the hotel so parking is convenient if not cheap. On street parking is free from 6PM to 9AM. I would definitely stay again and recommend The Palmetto Hotel.
We had our wedding at The Palmetto Hotel in Charleston and couldn’t have been happier with the experience. We worked with Shannon, who was incredibly accommodating, organized, and easy to work with throughout the process. The hotel is beautiful, and the penthouse was absolutely stunning for our small wedding. Everything went smoothly with no issues at all. Highly recommend!
Stunning boutique hotel in downtown Charleston!! I’m a former local that returned for a visit. Great location for tourists and walkable everywhere in the downtown area. Beautiful decor, great rooms, delicious continental breakfast, all staff were very friendly. Our 18 month old was with us and we were very pleased!
Clean rooms, great drinks at the bar, stylish lobby, super central location. Complimentary breakfast was pretty sparse (biscuits and gravy, hard boiled eggs, tiny yogurt parfaits, muffins and scones) compared to what I’ve seen at other hotels, though. We had a room facing the alley and it was pretty loud when we slept with the windows open - totally fine when closed.
Great downtown location, lovely decor, friendly staff and comfy rooms - the lobby bartender and valet made great recommendations for restaurants while I enjoyed a nightcap. Morning continental breakfast was delightful - scones and grits were a lovely local touch from nearby restaurant- and the lobby music really added to the relaxed vibe. I appreciated the little details, like comfy robes, Nespresso coffee, chocolates, and freshwater in the room. I should mention that check-in was speedy and a welcome cocktail was a sweet touch. I worked in the lobby the following morning and managed to catch the delivery of warm donuts from High Cotton next-door that are delivered every Thursday, Friday, Saturday… Delicious! Smiles and friendly assistance from all staff. Thanks for a great stay.
Elevated room and very lovely decor- but the staff and the service do not match the price or level they market themselves at. Our light switches in our room didn’t work, the phone doesn’t allow you to call the front desk for help. The staff does not give a professional attitude and wasn’t very warm. Little things like this add up to detract from the experience. I wouldn’t pay the listed rate for that again, but with improved staff and attention to detail this will be a stand out hotel in Charleston.
Our stay at Palmetto Hotel in Charleston has been very disappointing. Housekeeping did not properly clean our room during our stay. The room was left completely intact every day - beds were not made, trash was not picked up, and nothing was cleaned. The only thing they did was replace the towels, which is strange and unacceptable for a hotel stay. On top of that, the service from the front desk was extremely poor. This morning, we asked the receptionist for a simple knife to cut an orange from breakfast. She didn't even look at us and just said "okay." We waited around 10 minutes, but she never brought it. When we eventually walked past her again, she didn't apologize or acknowledge us at all. Overall, the lack of basic housekeeping and the rude, inattentive service made this stay very frustrating. This hotel does not meet basic hospitality standards, and I would not recommend it.
