The Market Pavilion Hotel receives mixed reviews, leaning towards positive but with significant concerns about inconsistent service and check-in experiences. While praised for its location, charm, and luxurious amenities like the rooftop pool and bar, guests have reported issues with attentiveness, long wait times for rooms, and dismissive staff during check-in.
The Market Pavilion Hotel is not a bad hotel, but it is far from a true luxury experience. The location is excellent, and the building has charm and history, but it feels like the hotel relies almost entirely on those points to support its luxury reputation. The staff were all pleasant, but they were generally very unattentive. Service was average at best, the food was average, and the rooms were below average compared to what I would expect from a hotel positioning itself at this level. Overall, it was an okay stay, but not one I would recommend. There are far nicer places to stay in Charleston that provide a much better overall experience.
We booked based off a reco from a friend since we hadn’t been to Charleston before. We wanted a hotel in the central walking area and that had a pool. This hotel checked all the boxes! Staff was incredibly friendly, remembered our names and went above and beyond to make our anniversary weekend wonderful. They gave us a recently renovated room with a view of the bridge, the updates were great! Pics shown. Rooftop pool oasis was a perfect retreat for midday relaxation. Valet was quick and they also remembered our name and car, a nice touch. They provide waters often to the room and when you leave for the day or checkout for the drive. The little touches go along way. Thanks for a great stay!
We enjoyed a stellar stay at the Market Pavilion Hotel. Great classic hotel ambience. Luxe Lobby vibe. The paneled Dining Room and Bar facing the old federal Custom House is something that architecture aficionados will adore. Dining Room meal and service were memorable. Continental Breakfast Bar steps from room. Comfy robes and slippers...speaking my language! And to top it all off, they found and sent back my husband's iWatch charger, which he had left behind. Personable and responsive staff. A first class establishment all the way. Old world charm and service. Highly recommend!
We spent our anniversary at Market Pavilion and couldn’t be happier. Theresan welcomed us at the front desk, made us feel very special and even brought us chocolate covered strawberries later that afternoon. The hotel is beautiful, comfortable and located in walking distance to all of our favorite spots. We will definitely stay here again when we are in town.
We have been visiting Market Pavilion Hotel for many years but this is the first time we have stayed for a long weekend. Our trip was first class. The restaurant in the main lobby 225 is above and beyond as is the lounge bar, be sure to have Clark make you a great martini or Nitrotini or pour you a great glass of wine. If you’d like a beautiful view of the Ravenal Bridge and the city the Pavilion rooftop bar is the place to be. We so enjoyed a relaxing weekend and you can’t beat the location. We will be back!
Check-in was handled extremely poorly and fell well below the standard expected for a luxury hotel. I arrived at 3:00pm knowing check-in was at 4:00pm and politely asked if my room happened to be ready early. It wasn’t, which was fine. I was told to return at 4:00pm or that I would receive a call if it became available sooner. At 4:00pm, my room was still not ready. I was asked to wait on the rooftop and told I would be called when it was ready. After nearly 40 minutes on a cold, windy rooftop, well past my confirmed 4:00pm check-in time, I returned to the front desk. I had received no call. Meanwhile, I watched other guests be sent to their rooms. When I politely expressed that my check-in time had passed and this was becoming unacceptable, the front desk agent (Andreina) did not apologize or offer any courtesy whatsoever. Instead, she (Andreina) insisted that check-in starts at 4pm siting your reservation states, “From 4pm” and that my room could be ready at any point after 4pm, implying that the posted check-in time did not guarantee room availability. That logic makes no sense. My reservation clearly states 4:00pm to noon, not an undefined window. Shifting blame to the guest rather than owning the delay was inappropriate and dismissive. To make matters worse, I was offered a “ready” room only if I accepted a downgrade. When I declined because I wanted the room I paid for, the explanation kept changing from “not as nice” to “same room, just no view.” It was confusing, frustrating, and poorly handled. I finally got into my room just before 5:00pm, nearly an hour after check-in, with no apology, no compensation, and no accountability. That said, not everyone here deserves criticism. Omar, the valet and bellman, was an absolute gem. He was kind, helpful, and professional, and he deserves recognition. The restaurant was outstanding. The steak was one of the best I’ve ever had, and the service was excellent. The room was gorgeous and clean. Unfortunately, front desk service sets the tone of a hotel stay, and this experience overshadowed everything else. For a hotel at this price point, this level of check-in mismanagement and customer dismissal is unacceptable. I am local and booked this for a staycation. I won’t be back nor would I recommend it to anyone I know solely based off of what they would be dealing with at check in.
Wife and I had the best stay here! Comfortable classic and just perfect. First class accommodations, better than any hotel in SC in my experience. We will be back on a regular basis for special occasions or just a getaway! We loved it.
We asked in the lobby about having drinks at the rooftop bar, the employee told us how to get up there, never mentioned they may be closing soon. We arrived just after 8pm. There were several tables with guests, several guests at the bar. We were approached by a staff member and told; we're closed. Just like that, no apology, no offer of one drink... nothing, just rude. So much for southern hospitality. We truly feel it was because we were dressed casual, guys in shorts.
Love this place!! Would give it 6 stars. It was the little things - off the charts great service and thoughtful and well played. I’m a coffee drinker…they have an awesome coffee setup beginning 7:00 am and all day on every floor by the elevator! Mornings have danish and pastries and evenings cookies. Fresh fruit 24/7! This I loved! When I checked in they asked what time I want my room made up and what time I wanted turn down service and delivered! Fresh water bottles daily, turn down service with these neat lemony short bread cookies (very good!) and robe and slippers neatly laid out. They did everything well! Also, rooms were spotless and in good shape though nothing fancy or huge. Nice bathroom abd hvac worked well. Amazing location! Rooftop bar is super nice! Employers were cheerful, helpful and professional. Just a great spot all around!
?????????? (5/5) The Market Pavilion Hotel in Charleston was flawless from start to finish. The location couldn’t be better — right in the heart of everything. Our room was spotless, spacious, and beautifully kept, with every detail dialed in. Between the cleanliness, comfort, and perfect downtown setting, this place nailed it. And don't miss the rooftop pool and bar! Five stars all the way.
