The Vendue is a unique Charleston hotel renowned for its art gallery atmosphere and exceptional service. Guests consistently praise the friendly and attentive staff, the beautiful common areas, and the convenient location near major attractions. While some rooms may be smaller due to the historic building, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, particularly for those seeking an artistic and welcoming stay.

We stayed at The Vendue 2/11 - 2/15/2026, and it was a lovely experience. The hotel is decorated throughout with many eye-catching modern art pieces. If modern art is not your thing, don't let this stop you from booking a stay! We stayed in Room 309, which was clean, comfortable, and spacious (we are used to European-sized hotel rooms, so it seemed quite large for the two of us). But the thing that really sets The Vendue apart is the service. Check-in was a very pleasant experience, where we were greeted with glasses of prosecco and made to feel very welcome. Everyone employee we encountered was kind, gracious, and helpful. The location is also a plus - steps away from the beautiful Waterpark, and there is also a DASH stop nearby, making it easy to take advantage of the very good public transportation. We were able to easily walk or ride the DASH to every attraction we wished to visit. We will definitely return to this hotel on our next trip to Charleston.

Pros: this comfortable boutique hotel is close to everything you want in historic Charleston. We were in the Enclave part of the hotel. Check in offers a sweet treat and glass of prosecco on arrival. The room was a good size, bed very nice and comfy, good linens and pillows, large bathroom, working gas fireplace. Unlimited bottled water at no charge, a simple snack/breakfast every morning, keurig coffee maker in room and fresh coffee every morning downstairs in lobby. Great housekeeping staff, fresh towels and room refresh every day. Cons: No elevator (we didn't care) but they will gladly help with luggage to your room. The heat in the room was weird. Thermo in room you set to heat, then seems to be blowing cool/cold air right at you in bed YET it def heats up room. We would set high, go out and turn off when we got back and put on fireplace.

I stayed at The Enclave at The Vendue. My room was clean and mini fridge was in it per my request, free of charge. The staff was nice and answered any questions I had. Champagne was offered to my l me upon arrival. Two small bottles of water were in the room along with a coffee maker, mugs and coffee. The bottles of water were replaced when the room was serviced. Each evening, turn down service brings two lemon French macarons and a bag of ice. At nine, fridge chip cookies and milk are brought to the lobby; another flavor of cookie is brought to The Vendue lobby but I forget what kind. Breakfast is left hanging in a bag on the door handle. It consists of an apple, banana, two muffins, two mini croissants, two pats of butter, and jam, along with a plastic utensils. I went to the Rooftop restaurant and had the BBQ chicken sandwich and the flourishing chocolate cake. Both were delicious. About half a block away is a pier and a path to walk along the waterfront. The pineapple fountain is not far. There are many restaurants near the hotel and it is easy to walk around the area.

The Vendue is one of those rare places that feels intentional the moment you step inside. I have never stayed overnight, but I have spent time walking through the lobby and common areas simply to admire the décor and artwork. The contrast of bold red furniture against pristine white walls, paired with vibrant, thoughtfully curated paintings, creates a space that feels both energetic and refined. It’s less like a hotel lobby and more like a living gallery. What stands out just as much as the design is the staff. Every interaction I’ve observed, whether with guests checking in, visitors passing through, or casual questions at the desk, has been met with professionalism, warmth, and genuine kindness. That consistency speaks volumes about the culture of the hotel. Even as a visitor, The Vendue feels welcoming, artistic, and elevated. If the guest experience matches the care put into the spaces and the people who run them, it’s easy to see why this property is so well regarded in Charleston.

I wish I could give this hotel negative 5 stars! The reservation service for this hotel is outsourced to a shady third party company called Agoda Price Line. I needed to cancel a reservation ONE MONTH before the check-in date, well in advance of the 72 hour requirement. The hotel reservation staff told me that I clicked on a third party site on The Vendue website, which is a lie. At no point was I directed to a third party website. Agoda Price Line asked me a dozen questions and could never find the reservation, which was charged in full. They offered to give me another phone number to call. One big run-a-round so they don't have to refund almost $800. Visa can handle it unless Agoda Price Line is located in China. As a part-time resident of Charleston making this reservation for family, I am ashamed and embarrassed how a top-rated hotel in my town operates. As a part-time resident of wealthy Potomac, Maryland, I will never again say "The Vendue is my favorite" when people ask me almost daily where they should stay in Charleston. No longer my first choice in Charleston because of its misleading online reservation service to a shady third party company that can't find your reservation if you need to make a change or cancel it. Never received a confirmation number from The Vendue. Never received a 'booking ID #' from the Agoda Price Line email that did not state the name of the company any place on their email. STAY SOME PLACE ELSE. IT'S NICE BUT NOT WORTH THIS MUCH TROUBLE NICE. Having a nephew stay here once in one of the first floor art rooms now seems like a dream of a different hotel.

This was the most disappointing hotel stay we have had in many years. My wife and I love Charleston, and typically go for a long weekend once or twice per year. We have always wanted to stay at the Vendue, but it was always priced well above several other nice hotels in the area, so we have never ended up staying there. We finally did this last weekend. The lobby and common areas of the hotel are fantastic, but the rooms are terrible. They are small, dated, and poorly maintained. I shared some pics of the beat up and dirty trim, the ceiling that was painted with different colors and is dirty, the closet in the bathroom with no door, and other illustrations If you were to just see the rooms, and not walk through the beautiful common areas, you would think you were in a street side motel. To top it off, on our last night someone had a big dog that barked most of the night. I don’t mind pets being allowed at hotels, but this hotel isn’t suited for it as the rooms all open to a common area. You can already hear conversations and doors opening and shutting. All the rooms on that side of the building could easily hear the barking and I could hear other guests complaining about it in the morning. When I checked out, I asked the front desk associate if she was told about the dog and she responded “yeah, it’s in the report”. I’m not sure what that means. She didn’t apologize or ask any questions. She was very indifferent. I wouldn’t stay here again for free, and couldn’t wait to get out of there this morning.

I cannot stress enough how wonderful this hotel is. I stayed here last minute on Christmas after experiencing an Airbnb nightmare. The entire staff was so kind and beyond accommodating. They took incredible care of me and my dog and completely turned our holiday around. The attention to detail was incredible—they even remembered my dog’s name. The pastry and fruit delivery every morning was such a highlight, I loved it. They also offered hot chocolate in the lobby in the afternoon and milk and cookies at night. I highly recommend staying here if you’re looking for a hotel that really knows what they’re doing and cares for their customers.

My wife and I arrived very from a long day of driving and had a great one day stay. The property is actually an art gallery with a high-end restaurant and a rooftop bar. We didn’t go to either. We checked in and the valet was very helpful in getting out car parked and luggage taken to our room. They had fresh baked cookies for us and a nice touch was a bag with croissants and muffins for breakfast were left on our door in the morning. The room was large, the bed was super comfortable and the shower and bathroom were laid out well with a lot of space. Only con was the housekeeper started knocking on our door at 0830 in the morning even though I had the do not disturb sign hanging and check out wasn’t until 11am. She then kept knocking several more times. For the high cost of the room, it would have been nice to have it until our full time expired. She also chased me down the hallway a couple of times asking which room was mine. She sure ran us out of there as fast as possible. There was also a lot of noise outside from the garbage trucks and a dog barking in the room next door because the housekeeper kept knocking on the doors.

We stayed at the Vendue for two nights and it was great. The art work was fantastic. The staff was so nice, the room was clean and just fun. I have ro give Micka the Bartender at the Rooftop bar a 5 star because she was just awesome with everyone. Thanks to everyone for the wonderful stay we had.

We just left this morning after a wonderful three night stay. The hotel was lovely and the staff fantastic! They went out of their way to make our anniversary trip special. We would like to especially thank Sarah M., Nicholas, and Dylan. This was. Our first trip to Charleston and we will definitely return. There is so question where we will stay: The Vendue! Thank you again for a fantastic experience!
