Wild Dunes Resort offers a blend of upscale accommodations and a family-friendly atmosphere with multiple pools and recreational activities. Recent reviews highlight excellent service and beautifully renovated suites, however, some guests experience inconsistencies in amenities and beach conditions. Concerns regarding overcrowding and billing issues have also been raised.
Just had an amazing time celebrating our first anniversary here. Thanks for all your help Joe at the front desk and Shannon at the concierge to make this happen! Dinner and breakfast at coastal provision was top notch.
This is the second time we stayed at the Sweet Grass Inn! We were there this past weekend for my 17th year wedding anniversary and everything was perfect!! The room 533 was ocean facing, modern with coastal vibes and so clean. The bathroom has the detachable shower head and was also very clean and updated. We love it there and can’t wait to go back with our family! It’s so close to Charleston and other areas you may want to visit!
I stayed in Building A, Suite 205/207 at The Residences and it was fantastic. The suites were just fully renovated and everything feels brand new, modern, and very high-end. The bedrooms are super comfortable, the bathrooms feel like a spa with walk-in showers, and the living areas are stylish yet inviting. All the little touches—luxury finishes, upgraded appliances, and thoughtful design—make the space feel more like a luxury condo than a hotel room. On top of that, the location is perfect. It’s just a short walk to great restaurants, shops, the beach, and the pool, which made the stay even more enjoyable. Overall, Suite 205/207 combines comfort, convenience, and upscale design in a way that made my trip truly memorable.
Definitely that family vacation getaway vibes the hotels. There's three of them all. Pretty nice places. Lot of little shops. Lot of family activities. Pretty nice tennis courts, bike rentals, chair rentals. Definitely a family oriented property but they do have an adult only pool if you just want to have a couple's vacation as well. Overall great place
I booked Wild Dunes Resort through Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts expecting a polished, premium stay. What I got instead fell well short of that standard. The resort is inconsistent—some areas are pleasant, but others feel neglected. The main pool area is attractive and has a jacuzzi, but during the day it’s overrun with children, making it impossible to enjoy any peace. The only “adults-only” option was a dirty pool with no jacuzzi, leaving no true luxury space to relax. I was especially glad I didn’t stay on the Boardwalk side—it looked dated, worn, and far less appealing than other parts of the property, and I would have been very disappointed if that had been my view of the resort. The real failure, however, was in the handling of my Amex perks. None of my included benefits were applied at check-in or during my stay. When I reviewed my bill, I discovered I was being charged more than double the correct amount in resort fees and other charges. Had I not caught the error, I would have unknowingly overpaid by hundreds of dollars. It makes you wonder if they just assume most people won’t notice—so they profit more at the guest’s expense. I had to speak with multiple people to get it fixed—while the staff were pleasant, I received no restitution for the error or the inconvenience. For a property partnered with Amex, this is unacceptable. TLDR: If you’re booking here expecting a luxury, hassle-free experience—especially as an Amex FHR guest—you should be prepared for overcrowded amenities, inconsistent quality, and billing mistakes you’ll have to catch yourself.
Our family recently stayed at the Wild Dunes Sweetgrass Inn on Isle of Palms, and we couldn't have been more impressed. From the moment we arrived, the staff was absolutely fantastic—welcoming, attentive, and always ready to help with a smile. It's clear they are at the top of their game, making us feel right at home. The amenities were truly outstanding. We absolutely loved spending time at the pools; they were sparkling clean, well-maintained, and provided the perfect place to relax and have fun. It was a huge hit with both the kids and the adults in our group. The entire property was immaculate and well-cared for, which really added to our sense of comfort and enjoyment. Wild Dunes Sweetgrass Inn is the perfect destination for a family vacation. We left feeling refreshed and already planning our next trip back. We highly recommend it!
Just wanted to take a quick moment to give a huge thank you to Wild Dunes Resort at Sweetgrass Pavilion for giving my wife and me a fantastic getaway. Everything about our time there was absolutely perfect and we could not be more grateful. I especially want to recognize Mason, Molly, and Virginia at the front who truly went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure we were more than satisfied with every part of our stay. Their kindness, professionalism, and attention to detail made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. As always, Isle of Palms and Sweetgrass remain one of the best kept secrets around. I honestly wish more people knew about this amazing place. The hospitality, the warm welcome, and the overall experience were simply top notch. Great job as always and thank you again for everything. We are already looking forward to coming back
We had paid to have our daughter wedding in front of the boardwalk inn. We were told we would be set up on the north side of the beach. Less people & noise from the pool area. We get there and we were literally set up right in front of trash cans and directly in front of the pool where live music was being played. We paid a lot of money to have the wedding here & Wild dunes did not deliver on what I was told in the beginning.
The beach and locale are gorgeous, but unfortunately the resort was acquired by a large hotel company that has ruined the place. Restaurants have limited hours and are understaffed, we had water leaking from the ceiling onto our table and just got a shrug from the staff, and there are only two places to eat if you don’t want bar food. The new owner also built a huge hotel in the middle of the resort, which has led to overcrowding and caused the rest of the resort to start installing gates at pools and bars that you can only access via coded bracelets that you are required to wear, as if you are at Disneyland.
This property made a fantastic first impression! The staff truly shines, especially Annie and T at the bar who didn't rush us out at closing – a real treat. Jack at the front desk made check-in a breeze and offered a warm welcome, acknowledging my World of Hyatt status and military service. Check-out had a billing hiccup, but Lexi handled it expertly, clearly explaining the issue and getting a manager involved. Hayden, the manager, was exceptional; he listened attentively to my concern, thoroughly explained the relevant policy, and resolved everything to my satisfaction. The location is also a huge plus, with easy beach access and plenty of on-site dining options. We even enjoyed a cabana upgrade, courtesy of the manager, and Emma and Michael provided excellent service at the pool. My only suggestion for improvement would be the TVs – cable with its endless commercials felt a bit dated. Overall, though, this is a wonderful property, and I definitely plan to return.
