The Dewberry Charleston consistently receives high praise for its exceptional service, luxurious accommodations, and prime downtown location. Guests frequently highlight the attentive staff, comfortable beds, and stylish design, particularly the rooftop Citrus Club. While some reviewers mention minor operational issues, overwhelmingly, the experience is described as memorable and delightful.
Simply Amazing!! My wife had major surgery at MUSC and was recovering well but could not get any rest. She was supposed to be in the hospital for 7-10 days but after 4 days she had made very good progress. She discussed leaving the hospital but staying close by, since we live 2 hours away. Her Dr reviewed her latest labs and told her if she stayed close he would discharge her. Immediately we looked into what hotels in Charleston had the most comfortable beds since she would have to stay in bed most of the day. Several came up but we had not stayed at the Dewberry before and our research said they had very comfortable beds, so we decided to book our 4 day stay. We could not have chosen a better place to visit. Sure this mid century modern hotel sits in a prime location in downtown Charleston, is gorgeous with an elegant atmosphere and beautiful roof top Bar, The Citrus Club, but ALL of their staff are exceptional and made us feel like royalty. I cannot remover all the names but Maria and Suzy at the front desk, Roxana and Maria in Housekeeping, along with the Valet and restaurant staff we so welcoming and accommodating. Oh and the rooms and beds were SO comfortable and luxurious!!! We are already planning a trip when my wife is better to enjoy all the Dewberry has to offer again! I cannot thank the Dewberry and it’s amazing staff enough for going out of their way to help my wife be comfortable while healing and doing everything they could for us!! THANK YOU!!!
This review is for the spa only; I did not stay at the hotel. We booked a 50-minute couples massage. They sent a confirmation email asking us to arrive 30 minutes early to hang out in the relaxation room. Don't skip this. Trust me. It adds to the experience. Cool water or tea (and optional mimosa!) and lying around in your robe with a heated neck roll for 30 minutes? Do it. Probably the best massage of my life. Jess was my therapist. I asked for moderate pressure and it was perfect. I also opted for the aromatherapy add on. After the massage, the locker room provides everything you need: towels, robes, shampoo and shampoo, even a toothbrush if that's what you need! Definitely recommend if you're in Charleston.
Absolutely amazing experience at the Dewberry, SC. My husband and I came here for a couple nights to celebrate our honeymoon. We were immediately greeted by valet staff who helped us in every way possible. Especially drop offs to all of our dinners. The concierge team took amazing care of us really making sure our honeymoon was the best! Our room had stunning views and the most beautiful bathroom (tub). Staff who really stood out for us were Noah, Rodrigo, And Connor. Thank you, Dewberry staff for making it such a memorable honeymoon for us :) we will definitely be back.
Our experience at The Dewberry was disappointing from start to finish. We arrived early for check-in, so we understood our room wasn’t ready and had no issue waiting. However, when our room was ready and we went to the front desk, the clerk initially tried to give us keys to someone else’s room with a completely different last name on the reservation. That is a serious privacy and security mistake that should never happen at a hotel of this caliber. The biggest issue came at checkout. We paid an additional $350 for a guaranteed 4:00 PM late checkout so we could enjoy our last day without feeling rushed. Instead, around 2:00 PM, hotel staff entered our room while we were out, saw that all of our belongings were still there, and then called us asking when we would be leaving. If a guest pays for a guaranteed 4:00 PM checkout, staff should not be entering the room or contacting the guest two hours early about checking out. It completely defeated the purpose of paying for the late checkout and felt intrusive and unprofessional. The Dewberry is a beautiful property, but the customer service and operational mistakes overshadowed our stay. For the prices they charge, I expected a much higher level of professionalism and attention to guest privacy.
My husband and I stayed at The Dewberry a few weeks ago. The hotel itself was gorgeous - very clean, beautifully decorated and smelled great too. We also ate at the Citrus Club on the rooftop, where we had great appetizers and drinks. What truly set this experience apart though, was the front desk staff. Suzy checked us in and upon hearing it was our first time in Charleston, she helped upgrade us to a gorgeous suite. About 30-minutes later, she sent us up warm chocolate chip cookies and a note welcoming us to the hotel from the front desk staff. She was unbelievably accommodating and made our trip so special. We can't wait to come back!
This hotel perfectly mixes historic Charleston charm with a modern luxury feel. The design is beautiful without being flashy, and the staff made everything effortless from check in to departure. The lobby alone is worth seeing, and the location is ideal for exploring the city on foot.
Our very unexpected Charleston adventure led us to discover the kindness and human generosity of the staff at The Dewberry. It wasn’t just the beautiful environment but the AMAZING people that made this experience unlike any other. To say they went “above and beyond” would not do this experience justice. All I can say is whenever the world grows a little too loud, I know precisely where I am returning. The Dewberry does not simply offer a room — it offers a respite, a refuge, and a masterclass in what it means to truly care for your guests. Well done, Dewberry team. Extraordinarily well done.
Outstanding, very personalized service. Excellent front desk staff, valet and bell staff, wait staff and housekeeping. Wonderful location. Small but nice gym. Nice renovation of a historic building. Reasonable but limited dinner menu. On the down side, small tight room with limited storage. Lousy water pressure. Didn't like rain head shower (with long hair makes rinsing difficult). Would have preferred a coffee maker in the room. For the price point, a Lavazza or Nespresso would be appropriate. Hotel room cost wa steep for what it was.
This hotel has a very nice architecture and decoration, it’s modern but with classic aspects from the mid century, the rooms are good but some gadgets like the hairdryer need to be upgraded. Another aspect which could use some improvement is the dining area, the low chair and tables make it difficult to eat, but allowing guests to have breakfast in-room make up for it. The service was very good, everyone was attentive and very professional and the car service is excellent! The region is also very good, walkable to most places 10-20 minutes walk. The bar area and rooftop are very nice, definitely a must even for non guests!
If I could give 10 stars I would. This hotel is beyond exceptional, when we do return in the future, we will only stay here. I hope to bring my children and grandchildren and make this a staple for where the Leepers stay in Charleston. When my wife got sick and had to have an ambulance come to check her out, the staff called and checked on her 3 times and sent two care packages. The level of service is almost unmatched at any place we’ve stayed around the world. I could go on but you get the point…first class on all fronts.
