The Spectator Hotel consistently receives high praise for its luxurious amenities, exceptional service, and prime location in Charleston. Guests are particularly impressed by the attentive butler service, beautifully appointed rooms, and thoughtfully curated details. While some reviewers note a slightly higher price point, the overall experience is described as worth the investment.
I am such a picky traveler & this hotel exceeded all of my expectations. Every aspect of this property is well thought out, curated impeccably, and clean. They’ve thought of all of the little details that mean a lot to travelers but are overlooked. I noticed them all & am very impressed. I also never get a good nights sleep when I’m not in my own bed and the mattress sucked me in! Pillows were equally a dream. The staff go above and beyond and are genuinely friendly and helpful. Rooms are huge, the bar is fantastic, and it’s centrally located. If I’m ever back in Charleston I’m staying here. Book. The. Hotel.
First time staying at the Spectator and it did not disappointment! Beds were so comfy, the shower was luxurious along with the shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Rooms were very clean. The room cleaning services were spot on! The best part was probably the complimentary continental breakfast that was better than some of the local eateries, and all the employees went above and beyond for whatever we needed.
Staying at The Spectator Hotel in Charleston is one of those rare experiences where the service actually lives up to the hype—and then quietly exceeds it in all the small, thoughtful ways that stick with you. Yes, it is expensive, but it genuinely feels worth it. The hotel leans hard into hospitality details that most places either overlook or charge extra for. Breakfast is delivered daily, along with an almost excessive-but-welcome spread of snacks, chocolates, and a fully stocked in-room refrigerator with drinks—all included in the room rate. It creates this constant sense that you’re being looked after without having to ask. What really sets the tone is the staff. The butler service in particular stands out: knowledgeable about Charleston restaurants, patient with recommendations, and consistently warm without being intrusive. There’s a level of attentiveness that feels personal rather than scripted. Even small requests are handled quickly and without friction—one example being having a jacket steamed and returned in perfect condition in time for dinner. The hotel bar is another highlight—stylish, intimate, and run with the same high standard of service as the rest of the property. It’s an easy place to unwind at the end of the day and feels like a natural extension of the hotel’s overall aesthetic. Overall, The Spectator delivers a polished, luxury experience that is less about flash and more about thoughtful execution. If you’re staying in Charleston and want something refined, comfortable, and quietly impressive, this is an easy recommendation.
Tale of two hotels The hotel staff and service was great no complaints. The rooms were very nice and clean. However, the bar and kitchen left a lot to be desired. The bar tenders have mastered RBF. They will claim, “we are full try us later”. They put out menus but then claim the kitchen is closed even though the order was so simple (deviled eggs) that they could simply pull them out of the frog and serve them.
The Spectator is a luxury hotel in every way and we did not regret booking here. The rooms are spacious, with high quality bedding and a large bathroom. The Butler service is top-notch and everyone is extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to help. Breakfast, which is included with the room, comes delivered daily to your room. The location is steps from the Old Market and usually a 5-10 minute walk from all the major tourist locations. Although slightly more expensive than other hotels, the benefits of the location, the staff service, and various amenities make The Spectator worth the price tag.
We loved staying here. I am very picky with hotels and was so happy with our stay. Beautiful, clean rooms. The butler service was great. Turn down service was great. Everyone is very friendly and accommodating. Wonderful location. Delicious breakfast. Nice towel warmers and shower. Cannot say enough good things. Highly recommend ?
My wife and I had an exceptional stay at The Spectator. The hotel is elegant, perfectly located, and offers truly outstanding service. The butler team was attentive and seamless, and the speakeasy-style bar is a sophisticated spot for a cocktail. We would absolutely return and highly recommend it for a luxury Charleston stay.
On arrival, James the valet was on point and ready to assist. He was very kind and a pleasure to meet and talk with. Upon check out James was working again and quickly brought the car to us. I was surprised when he offered to take our empty cups from the car to dispose. He should be valued as a kind and professional employee. I appreciated him and hope to see him again. Also had great experience with Hanna from the guest service desk. She assisted in locating our Uber and restaurant. Evelyn from the bar was completely attentive and great at her job. Please let them know how grateful I am. See you again soon. Tim
Our stay was absolutely outstanding, and the staff truly made it unforgettable. The butlers, David and Will, went above and beyond to ensure every detail was perfect—professional, attentive, and genuinely kind. They anticipated our needs before we even had to ask and made us feel completely taken care of. At the front desk, Wade was welcoming, efficient, and incredibly helpful, making both check-in and any questions throughout our stay seamless and stress-free. The experience wouldn’t have been complete without the amazing bartenders, Allen and Rose. Their cocktails were expertly crafted, and their friendly personalities made every visit to the bar a highlight of our evenings. This hotel excels not only in comfort and amenities but in exceptional service. The team truly cares about creating a memorable experience, and we can’t wait to return. Highly recommended!
The Spectator Hotel is spectacular! The attention to detail is incredible. The customer service attitude is fantastic. The room and bathroom are spacious and clean. There’s even a towel warmer. They provide water and soft drinks as well as snacks. The delicious breakfast was free and delivered to our room. The walls are well insulated from noise. I really can’t say enough good things about this property. We recently stayed at Fountaine Blue in Las Vegas and The Spectator beats them!
