The Spectator Hotel is a highly praised luxury Charleston property renowned for its attentive butler service, exceptional hospitality, and prime location in the historic French Quarter. Despite overwhelmingly positive reviews regarding service and atmosphere, a few recent guests noted inconsistencies in room maintenance and certain amenities like house slippers.
We loved staying here. I am very picky with hotels and was so happy with our stay. Beautiful, clean rooms. The butler service was great. Turn down service was great. Everyone is very friendly and accommodating. Wonderful location. Delicious breakfast. Nice towel warmers and shower. Cannot say enough good things. Highly recommend ?
My wife and I had an exceptional stay at The Spectator. The hotel is elegant, perfectly located, and offers truly outstanding service. The butler team was attentive and seamless, and the speakeasy-style bar is a sophisticated spot for a cocktail. We would absolutely return and highly recommend it for a luxury Charleston stay.
On arrival, James the valet was on point and ready to assist. He was very kind and a pleasure to meet and talk with. Upon check out James was working again and quickly brought the car to us. I was surprised when he offered to take our empty cups from the car to dispose. He should be valued as a kind and professional employee. I appreciated him and hope to see him again. Also had great experience with Hanna from the guest service desk. She assisted in locating our Uber and restaurant. Evelyn from the bar was completely attentive and great at her job. Please let them know how grateful I am. See you again soon. Tim
Our stay was absolutely outstanding, and the staff truly made it unforgettable. The butlers, David and Will, went above and beyond to ensure every detail was perfect—professional, attentive, and genuinely kind. They anticipated our needs before we even had to ask and made us feel completely taken care of. At the front desk, Wade was welcoming, efficient, and incredibly helpful, making both check-in and any questions throughout our stay seamless and stress-free. The experience wouldn’t have been complete without the amazing bartenders, Allen and Rose. Their cocktails were expertly crafted, and their friendly personalities made every visit to the bar a highlight of our evenings. This hotel excels not only in comfort and amenities but in exceptional service. The team truly cares about creating a memorable experience, and we can’t wait to return. Highly recommended!
The Spectator Hotel is spectacular! The attention to detail is incredible. The customer service attitude is fantastic. The room and bathroom are spacious and clean. There’s even a towel warmer. They provide water and soft drinks as well as snacks. The delicious breakfast was free and delivered to our room. The walls are well insulated from noise. I really can’t say enough good things about this property. We recently stayed at Fountaine Blue in Las Vegas and The Spectator beats them!
Can’t recommend this hotel enough. My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the Spectator. All of the staff were friendly and professional, and the butlers were a great resource in planning activities and things to see in Charleston. The in room breakfast was the perfect way to start the day as well.
What an experience!! I can not recommend this hotel enough. From the moment we walked in (the doorman opened the door for us with a welcoming smile), the level of hospitality and service was noticeable and unmatched. The welcome cocktail during check-in was a great touch and delicious. Since we were celebrating our anniversary, a bottle of champagne was waiting for us in the room. I called ahead and asked for fruit juices which they happily obliged. The breakfast was really good, delivered to our room on time, fresh and hot. The coffee was really good. The turn down service was really nice and we looked forward to it and the speciality drink each night. The snacks in the room were locally sourced and tasty too. I seriously can not find 1 thing that was wrong with the hotel, its staff or the overall experience. Location was great, everything including the market was walkable distance. One day, I had a hard time reaching a tour company. I remembered the butler could help secure reservations. After spending over 30 minutes trying to reach the tour company myself, I called the butler. Within 10 minutes, he was calling me back with a direct line to the tour salesman who would confirm my booking. I've never had butler service before but I'm spoiled now. Book here.
We really enjoyed our 2-night stay at the Spectator Hotel. What we loved most about the hotel was the location - very easily walkable to all the best sights in Charleston. The rooms were spacious but we felt that for a 5* hotel, a few things could be improved: there weren’t any slippers (which is unusual for a 5* hotel) and the turndown service wasn’t consistent - on the first night, no one cleaned/tidied our bathroom and we weren’t offered fresh towels; on the second night, although the bathroom was freshened up, the curtains weren’t drawn and the minibar wasn’t refilled (though it had been the first night). Overall the rooms felt slightly worn in some areas (a lot of the furniture showed signs of some wear and tear). The staff are delightful however and the hotel does deserve top marks for its location. There are a lot of options in Charleston however, so given the price point, we think we would try elsewhere next time.
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at the Spectator Hotel and cannot recommend it highly enough. This was our first trip to Charleston - the location in the French Quarter is perfect and everything is within walking distance. The Butler staff was amazing. Michelle, Jim and David welcomed us to Charleston, rescued my wife with an emergency advil, and suggested a full day of activities. We'd start each day with them delivering a delicious breakfast to our room - our favorite part was the brûléed grapefruit. In the bar, Allen and Evelyn worked wonders behind the bar - they are highlighting 10 years of their most popular cocktails right now. Highly highly recommend. My favorites are Trouble in the Henhouse and Grandpa's Rocking Chair. We'll definitely be staying at the Spectator next time we visit Charleston.
I do not have enough positive things to say about our experience at the Spectator. Easily one of the best hotel experiences we've had in a long time. Perfect for anyone looking to get away and explore Charleston on foot. Yes the room and amenities were top-notch, but the staff really took things to the next level. Everyone--and I mean everyone from front desk to housekeeping-- smiled, spoke to us, and genuinely seemed like they enjoyed their job. Such a rarity in today's world. We weren't sure what to expect with "butler" service, but it was the extra 'wow' factor of our trip. They were ALL excellent, but David really went above and beyond. He sent a kind note on our anniversary, helped us make a dinner reservation on a busy Friday night, and provided several excellent and personalized recommendations. To top things off, after learning I was gluten free he left us some gluten free jalapeno cheese straws. Southern hospitality at its finest. The in-room breakfast each morning was so convenient. After a full day of walking, the last thing you want to do is walk somewhere for breakfast. The food was adequate and there were several customizations available for Gluten Free. We also really appreciated the available amenities included in our stay, such as the in-room fridge (sodas, water, cold brew coffee) and the available bicycles. It was incredibly refreshing to not feel 'nickel and dimed' out of our souls like we do at most hotels. The beverage program here is on point. Our welcome cocktail (Peach Porch Swing) was the best bourbon cocktail my wife said she has ever had. Our drinks from the bar were excellent, even if the service was a bit slow for a weekend afternoon. All in all, this is a wonderful gem of a hotel that elevates Southern hospitality. We will certainly return.
