The French Quarter Inn consistently receives rave reviews for its exceptional service, luxurious amenities, and prime location in Charleston’s historic district. Guests frequently praise the thoughtful touches, such as nightly turndown service, complimentary breakfast and wine/cheese receptions, and the staff’s personalized attention. While some recent reviews note minor inconveniences like construction noise, the overwhelming sentiment is one of delight and memorable experiences.
My husband and I stayed at the French Quarter Inn in Charleston this past weekend for our elopement, and it was truly exceptional. There wasn’t a single detail that wasn’t thoughtfully taken care of. We had a gorgeous, spacious room with a balcony, and it immediately set the tone for a relaxing and special stay. One of our favorite touches was being able to order breakfast delivered to our room every morning, such a luxury. The nightly turndown service with water and chocolate was another thoughtful detail that made us feel so cared for. There was even a note card letting you know the weather for the next day! The bathroom was beautiful, the location was perfect (close to everything we needed), and the staff went above and beyond. On our wedding day, we were surprised with champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries, which meant so much to us and made the day even more memorable. The hotel also offers cookies and milk each night, plus a candy station that we definitely enjoyed! We genuinely wanted for nothing the entire stay, the French Quarter Inn truly thinks of everything. We 100% intend to return. If you want your time in Charleston to feel extra special, book this place. It made our elopement weekend unforgettable.
Wonderful hotel! My husband and I stayed over a long weekend to celebrate his birthday. I think above all else, the service was the most stand out part of our experience. All of the employees were so kind and helpful, but Bob (front desk) was top tier! The staff was so thoughtful, in our room, they left a handwritten birthday card, chocolates, cologne, champagne, and a candle to celebrate my hubs. The breakfast was lovely, but I think our favorite was the room service. They also had 3 types of candy available 24/7 for free at the front desk. Though we didn't use the free bikes, they were super cute, and plenty were available. The happy hour was also excellent. The hotel itself is older, but it's kept up immaculately - lots of charm. It also felt intimate and quiet, even during the social times (which is wonderful). The French Quarter Inn was a huge part of our amazing first trip to Charleston. We will definitely be returning.
I have so many good things to say about this place. First off, the service is excellent! It's a gorgeous property and convenient location. Rooms are clean and maintained. The breakfast, wine and cheese hour, and cookies and milk are such a nice touch! We loved that they even have hot water, coffee, sparkling water, etc. all day long. If you're searching for a luxury hotel that's perfect for walking into town, then look no further.
I don't have enough good things to say about this place. We came on Valentine's Day weekend and decided to splurge on our lodging, since downtown lodging was going to be expensive anyways. We usually don't spend this much, so our expectations were high - and they were all met. The location is excellent, right next to Charleston Market and E Bay street, and a short walk away from King St. Not a single detail is spared in this hotel experience, and the service is top-notch. Highly recommend!
A solid 5/5 to this gorgeous property and staff. It’s not often that you come across a hotel like the French Quarter Inn! Upon arrival we were greeted by Bob at the front desk and a glass of champagne shortly after check in. The room was amazing, the food was stunning and delicious but it really was the hospitality that was unmatched! Bob (Front Desk) and Izzy (Bar) alongside the rest of the team, went above and beyond! Not to mention the complimentary breakfast, wine/cheese and milk/cookies as an added perk of staying here! We plan on coming back to Charleston in the near future and will be staying here again:) A & M From Toronto, Canada
This is a pleasant hotel, but by no means “the best hotel in the U.S.” pleasant. The reputation seems driven more by strong marketing than by an exceptional guest experience. Overall, it feels overrated for the price. We stayed four nights between Christmas and New Year’s. Pros • Generally friendly staff. Most employees were courteous and helpful, though a few came across as somewhat snobbish or distant. Given how busy the holiday period was, I still count this as a positive overall. • Thoughtful add-ons. Complimentary wine and cheese, cookies, and a broad pillow menu are nice touches. If you enjoy boutique-style perks and are willing to pay a premium for them, you’ll likely appreciate these. • High-end in-room products. It’s clear they try to use upscale items. The hair dryer, in particular, stood out—easily the nicest I’ve ever seen in a hotel room, comparable to a Dyson. • Excellent location. Walking distance to most major sights in Charleston’s historic district, which is probably the hotel’s strongest selling point. Cons (Based solely on our experience; others may differ.) • Very inefficient valet service. There appeared to be essentially one person handling valet. We were told to expect a 5–10 minute wait, but 30 minutes later, guests who had requested their cars before us were still waiting. Because we were about to miss a scheduled activity, the front desk agent had to retrieve our car herself. We barely made it on time, and the situation was unnecessarily stressful. • Dated and poorly maintained room. Cabinet doors were misaligned, the fridge was noisy, the toilet constantly leaked, and the HVAC system was loud, with an abrupt burst of air every time it kicked on—even when set to auto or low. • Limited amenities. There’s no pool and no fitness center, which feels like a major omission at this price point. • Underwhelming breakfast. The complimentary breakfast was comparable to what you’d find at a suburban Marriott Courtyard. The dining area is also very small; we were never able to find a table that accommodated our group (four adults and two kids). Conclusion I can see why French Quarter Inn receives rave reviews: it’s well-suited for couples or casual travelers who value small luxury touches, personalized service, and plan to spend most of their time walking around historic Charleston. That said, it was not a good fit for us. We were traveling with two kids, wanted to explore areas outside the city, and prioritized comfort and amenities over boutique-style add-ons. For our needs, French Quarter Inn simply doesn’t deliver. At $500–$600 per night for a basic room, the value proposition falls short. Under different circumstances I might rate it three stars, but considering the price, I’d give it two stars. Update: After posting this review, the management team from French Quarter Inn reached out to me directly. Their response was prompt, sincere, and thoughtful. They took the time to acknowledge our experience, address specific concerns I raised, and, most importantly, demonstrated that they genuinely care about how their guests feel. While our stay itself had shortcomings, the way the hotel handled the feedback speaks volumes about their values and commitment to improvement. That level of accountability and customer care deserves recognition. For that reason, I am updating my rating from two stars to four stars. Although French Quarter Inn may still not be the best fit for every type of traveler, their professionalism and willingness to listen significantly changed my overall impression of the brand.
Such a wonderful place to stay when in Charleston. Pure luxury! Enjoy an aperitivo from 5:30-6:30 with free wine and wonderful buffet. Milk and cookies around 10pm. Just steps from all the best Charleston has to offer! Beautiful place!!
First time in Charleston and we loved this hotel. The location was perfect. Next to the Market and right in the french quarter. Rooms were spacious and bed was comfy. They offered Cheese and wine ? everyday, same as breakfast. Milk and cookies around 8pm. The Vallet parking very convenient.
This is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. The experience from the moment we met the valet to the next morning was nothing short of extraordinary! The evening reception, bedtime cookies with milk, turn down service, temperature in the room, comfortable beds, pillow menu, local clean toiletries, breakfast in bed, corner market view suite, courtyard with fountain and ornamental fruit trees and finally the most friendly staff who was always ready to help. I will definitely return! It was a little taste of France with Southern charm.
I had an amazing stay at the French Quarter Inn in Charleston. From the moment I arrived, the staff were welcoming and attentive, making me feel right at home. The room was beautifully decorated, spacious, and incredibly comfortable, with thoughtful touches that made the stay extra special. I loved the complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres in the evening—it was such a nice way to relax after exploring the city. The location is perfect, right in the heart of the historic district, so everything is within walking distance. Overall, it felt luxurious yet cozy, and I would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Charleston!
