The Moxy Charleston Downtown offers a unique and centrally-located stay in Charleston, known for its vibrant, minimalist design and social atmosphere. Guests consistently appreciate its proximity to downtown attractions and the friendly staff, particularly at the bar. However, some find the rooms small and noise levels can be a concern.
My boyfriend and I had a great stay here! Great location that is not far from King’s Street and the hotel is a very fun and unique atmosphere. However, the lady that checked us in at the bar when we arrived seemed very disinterested and was eating during the check in process which felt a bit odd and unwelcoming. Aside from that, we had a great time and shoutout to Kendra at the bar for giving us fabulous recommendations for the area. We loved her vibrant energy!
Stayed at the Moxy. We are in our 50s. We walked to breakfast nearby and to the park. We also walked to the coffee shop wine bar Blum 3 mins away. Yes we did Uber too to South Baterry to walk down the boardwalk with the ocean biew next to us the entire time. We ubered to some restaurants on King St at night for dinner too. Rates were the lowest in downtown Charleston and Blum had great bottles of wine nearby. We loved the Moxy. Free drink given too.
With this hotel Moxy, you either love it or you hate it.We absolutely loved it. not to mention, we love the price, as it's one of the most affordable places to stay in downtown charleston. everything else was 2, 3 and even 5 times more a night. for a family to stay here, I wouldn't recommend, but if it's just two couples or a couple or just somebody solo doing business this is the ideal location. love the fact that I can walk to bloom. It's an easy two minute swift walk down the road at 7 a m and get my morning coffee and my pastry to start off my day. a few days, I even worked from there.Because the space is very spacious inside, it's beautiful and it's easy to just work from there and get some work done.If you were in town for business like I was. the music isn't on too loud. people aren't shouting over you and you can even have a conversation with the person next to you. The chairs are very comfortable and they have plenty of outlets. The moxy is located around walking distance to restaurants as well. The rooftop of the moxie is definitely the highlight of the entire hotel and the drinks are good. we had drinks there, but then I again walked down to bloom and did the two minute walk and grabbed one other bottles of wine that were the cheapest in downtown and headed back. overall, this is a great place to stay, and you just have to keep an open mind. And if you wanted the ritz carlton, you should have definitely booked there lol
As many other reviews here suggest, this hotel tends to receive very polarized opinions—people either really like it or don’t. The main reason is expectations. If you arrive expecting a traditional Marriott experience, you may feel slightly disappointed, as I initially did. However, if you take the time to understand the hotel’s "MOXY" business concept beforehand, it starts to make sense—and even feels refreshing. For someone like me who stays long-term and values fitness, having access to a laundry facility is essential. I would strongly encourage the hotel to consider installing washing machines. That said, there were several highlights. The spacious lounge on the 6th floor was excellent, and the gym on the 7th floor was particularly impressive with its well-equipped facilities—it felt like a personal reward during my stay. While it’s true that there were some homeless individuals outside but not in front of the hotel, the 6th-floor lounge was comfortable and expansive enough that I preferred working there rather than in my room. For those who are open to experiencing a new kind of hotel culture, this place can be enjoyable regardless of age or gender.
The staff was amazing and our rooms were very clean (and trendy but small and loud) . The rooftop bar is beautiful and the drinks were great, bartenders were wonderful every night. My biggest complaint is that we got a phone call one morning asking if we wanted housekeeping and even after we told them no, we returned to our room later that same afternoon with our door open and not locked. I had $5k worth of my camera equipment left in our room and thankfully it was still there.
So, sorry if this is long but bear with me on this one. First person I met was Sam at the front desk. Sam is simply the best checkin experience you will have. I travel often and I wish her enthusiasm and charm could be duplicated. When you arrive you will pull into the building carport with goes thur the building and met with a valet with a smile, did not get his name but her was great. After that you will go to the sixth floor and meet Sam, (if she is working, Should Geta raise),,,,, she will check you in and give you local options for dining as well as how to get where you want to go. After that go to the room and get settled. Room was cute and clean, simple decor with an intentionality for simplicity and style. The room was small but adequate. Bed confortable and bathroom well done with glass doors and tile, so crapy bathtub fiberglass shells. After checking in came back down to the front desk with is connected to a great lobby area full of various seating options and work areas with power outlets and a bar., Bar has power outlet and the bartend that I had was Kendra and to say she is a delight is understated. Quality crafted contains and a warm personality as a companion. I can't wait to come back here again soon.
My favorite thing about this hotel besides, their beautiful rooftop is the coffee shop that you can go to literally two minute walk away. Blum Coffee has your reasonably priced bottles of wine and terrific coffee, macha, chai and hot tea. Also, when I'm staying in this hotel for business matters the best place to work with Wifi for customers is also there. Staying at the Moxy Hotel is always a five star experience.
We had an amazing stay! The room was great, and the staff truly made the experience unforgettable. Charlene and Anna at the bar were absolutely amazing—they went above and beyond and made our stay 10x better. If they take care of you, you’ll get the full Moxy experience and truly feel at home. Highly recommend!
We stayed at the Moxy Hotel in Charleston for our 13-year anniversary and had an incredible experience. I called ahead to set up a surprise in the room for my husband, and the receptionist was genuinely excited to help and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfectly ready before we arrived. Not only did they do a beautiful setup with rose petals, champagne, and candlelight, but they also wrote a personalized note from Jen, which made it even more special. Everyone we interacted with was extremely kind and welcoming. The vibe of the hotel was immaculate — fun, modern, and thoughtfully designed. It was also a short, easy walk (about 15 minutes) to Uptown Social on King Street, surrounded by great restaurants and nightlife. They should absolutely make more hotels with this exact structure and energy. Highly recommend. The only thing I can recommend even though we were staying during an Arctic storm happening a few hours away the heater in the room does not do much to keep you warm. That being said we were in the corner window room so we understand why it was having a hard time keeping up
I had an excellent experience at the front desk thanks to Sam. She was incredibly sweet, knowledgeable, and efficient, and she helped me quickly sort out an issue with my reservations. Sam made the entire process seamless and stress-free, and her positive attitude truly stood out. She is a wonderful representative of Marriott and made my stay even better. The rooms are on the smaller side, but they are very clean, and the bathroom is spacious. The hotel is located about a mile from the more popular parts of King Street, which was convenient and manageable. Thank you Sam for helping us start our trip out on a high note!
