The Hilton Garden Inn Charleston Waterfront/Downtown offers a convenient location near the waterfront and downtown Charleston, with some guests praising its views and comfortable rooms. However, recent reviews highlight significant concerns regarding soundproofing, inconsistent service, and cleanliness issues, particularly regarding bathroom facilities. Overall, the property presents a mixed experience with notable strengths and weaknesses.
My Husband and decided to take a last minute weekend getaway to Charleston. We chose this riverside hotel for the views, location and Hilton Brand. It didn't disappoint
This hotel is very close to all the hospitals, but not the tourist areas of the market. You will have to drive or get a Uber to get there. The view of the Ashley River is beautiful and if you come in the spring and summer bring bug spray because gnats will bite. The lobby restaurant has a fantastic food and there is a rooftop lounge with the overlooking views of the river.
Take earplugs!!! The major downside to this hotel is soundproofing. We could hear the chap next to us taking his phone calls. Every word! Plus, our room was opposite the scenic major road flyover. Wonderful. The room itself was great though. Comfy beds. Decent bathroom. Can't tell you about the staff, they didn't interact with us at all during our stay You can walk into town, but there is one VERY busy pedestrian crossing near the hotel that drivers chose to ignore people on - despite the law to give way, they do not
Location: Have stayed in many Hilton Garden Inns but should have been more careful when booking this one. While I knew the location was on the Waterfront I was disappointed it wasn’t safely walkable ito town. Not far but would have had to cross a freeway cloverleaf. Plus: View of harbor and sunsets spectacular. Cons: Disappointed that the pool was closed for renovations, although no work was evident. TV choices were basic TV cable, no streaming and ability to stream on our own account. Housekeeping skipped our room and came back when we were changing for the evening. Could not come later. Very expensive compared to other properties. Basic amenities like robes, body lotion, not available. Room did have coffee which was better than coffee served in restaurant. And there is a microwave and mini fridge. Bed was comfortable. Price for parking was high.
I'm not normally a big chain hotel person but booked this as convenient for our stay in Charleston and not as horrifically expensive as some of the old town places. Our room was very poorly sound insulated from the surrounding rooms, when our neighbour had an early morning telephone conversation we could hear every word he said. On day one I asked the desk girl a question, the response was curt and unfriendly, a complete contrast to the guy on the desk in the evening. Had a drink in the bar one night, quite expensive but I guess it's a hotel, bar lady seemed more interested chatting up the 2 young service men. I thought parking was reasonable for the area, other hotels charge 35-60 US/night. Easy walk to King Street etc or use a cheap Uber.
As a new Hilton Honors member and staff employee, I was genuinely excited to experience Hilton’s service firsthand. The app setup was seamless, and booking for friends and family was simple—until check-in day. On October 31, my mother-in-law and aunt arrived after driving four hours from Greensboro. Instead of being welcomed, they were told they couldn’t check in because the reservation was under my name. I take responsibility for the mix-up, but what made the situation worse was how it was handled. When I called, the first manager (Ed, I believe) was defensive and short-tempered. The second, Elizabeth, began pleasantly but quickly shifted to the same sharp tone. I understand policy, but delivery matters. Their words may have been correct—how they said them was not. The issue was eventually resolved after canceling and rebooking, but the experience left us frustrated and disappointed. For a property as beautiful as this one, right on the Charleston waterfront, the customer service should match the view. I strongly recommend management review this call and consider additional training around tone, empathy, and handling sensitive guest situations. Even when policy is firm, the delivery should still feel like Hilton.
2nd time staying here! Its easy in and out, staff is amazing! At night we got ubers to go to Kings street and what have you, all were within 2-5 mins and no more than $10-$12, great location! Will definitely stay here when Im in Charleston!
I am a loyal Hilton honors member and a fan of their hotels, but this has been the worst experience at a Hilton hotel I’ve ever had. I was awoken by fire alarms at 2:30 AM. Normally this would not have been an issue, as emergencies happen, but I was informed by the employees that it is just a reoccurring issue with their fire alarm and that nothing set it off. Because of the lack of sleep I was able to get, I tried to talk to management about making adjustments to my stay. Instead of simply telling me no, they rudely called me a twink and insinuated that was the reason I wished to make an adjustment. It was extremely bizarre and unnerving. I’ve never encountered a more unhelpful and rude hotel staff in my life.
The room was so spacious and comfortable. We had the best view of the marina and the water. This was by far the best hotel I have stayed in. The lobby was magical and the front desk attendant was very friendly. I absolutely look forward to booking again.
Had a great stay! One of my best experiences with Hilton. Marc at the front desk greeted me with kindness and was very professional. I am not familiar with Charleston so I asked a lot of questions about the area and Marc was so informative and helpful! He gave us the best recommendations. We will return next time we are in Charleston! Thank you Marc for the GREAT first impression of Charleston and your hospitality!
