The Loutrel is a highly rated, centrally located boutique hotel praised for its stunning design, top-tier hospitality, and exceptional complimentary amenities including breakfast and happy hour. While guests love the beautiful, clean rooms and attentive staff, recent reviews express concern over booking platform integration that shifts priority away from hotel guests, as well as an unpleasant interaction over an alleged billing dispute.
Absolutely stunning! Our second time staying here. Location is fantastic, you can walk everywhere and it’s just a block from the public market. Rooms are beautiful. Our room was huge, beautiful bathroom and lovely balcony with rockers! Free snacks and drinks in your room and in the Mezzanine, they even have free drinks in the bar at happy hour for guests from 4-5 as well as a free continental breakfast which was very good. Everyone there was so pleasant and willing to help any way they could. This is truly an outstanding property run extremely well. We will go out of our way to return to The Loutrel any time we possibly can, and would highly recommend!
This hotel was wonderful! Each detail is so well thought out from the decor throughout to the amenities in the room. Having snacks and drinks in my room each day for free was such a treat! The happy hour and snacks in the lobby and club room were a great touch as well. All the staff was so helpful, food and drinks were great as well.
I was very excited to bring my two best friends to this lovely hotel this past weekend. I have stayed here before and recommended it to many people. This was the first visit for my two friends. Room is very nice and the hotel is thoughtful, beautiful and so enjoyable. Breakfast is wonderful, and hotel location is perfect! I do hope that by adding the hotel bar to Resy, this boutique hotel will not lose its priority to exceptional guest service. Had 2 minor incidents in hotel lobby bar and both could have been avoided. This hotel is considered expensive, so the priority should always be on the hotel guests, NOT outsiders who come in for a drink at hotel bar. I do hope this will be considered by hotel management. (I am happy to share more, if needed.) I definitely noticed this change, during this stay, and I absolutely didn’t feel this way when I stayed here before - I believe the change is that bar was added to Resy. Definitely choose detail and guest service over having a “busy” bar. It will quickly ruin the boutique atmosphere of your lovely hotel!
We stayed at The Loutrel for a long weekend in Charleston, and it was the perfect stay from check in to our final day in the city. From the moment we arrived, the staff was attentive, service oriented, and genuinely friendly, making us feel welcomed. The daily breakfast was a wonderful touch, offering both hot items and continental options, all thoughtfully prepared and well done for guests. We also loved their daily Finest Hour, where they serve fantastic cocktails and it was the perfect way to unwind after a day exploring Charleston. The hotel itself has a beautiful coastal aesthetic with a high end bed and breakfast feel that is elegant, relaxed, and inviting. Our room was very clean, comfortable, and beautifully designed. We especially appreciated the all inclusive snacks and drinks in the room, which were incredibly convenient and added to the overall experience. If you are looking for a quiet and exclusive property with exceptional service and charm, The Loutrel is truly a gem. We highly recommend it and would absolutely stay again.
The Loutrel is a beautiful, centrally located property in the heart of Charleston and an excellent choice for anyone seeking true Southern hospitality. Every staff member was knowledgeable and eager to share recommendations on local attractions, dining, and must-do experiences for a weekend visit. Leah, the bartender, was especially kind and welcoming, effortlessly managing a busy room with grace and professionalism. The guest rooms were immaculate, and the housekeeping team did an outstanding job servicing my room throughout the stay. If you’re looking for a hotel in Charleston, I highly recommend The Loutrel as your go-to destination.
I wish every hotel I went to operated with the same level of service and excellence in atmosphere as The Loutrel . Every detail was so thoughtful and well executed. We had so much fun staying here. You get all the Luxury without any arrogance. The level of warmth and care that we experienced made our trip so much better. Plus the added bonus of quiet rooms, lush beds, and delicious breakfast and snacks. Thank you to The Loutrel for a special experience .
(Would be 5 stars without unfortunate incident) We loved this hotel: the design is stunning and the attention to detail really shows. The free snacks were incredible (and so creative!), and we loved that everything was within walking distance. We even used the loaner bikes, which was such a fun way to explore the area. The rooftop is another highlight, though it could definitely use some shade since it gets really hot in the summer. Unfortunately, one experience did put a damper on our stay. When we checked in, we were told there was a happy hour with a complimentary drink and food. The sign by the bar mentioned empanadas, so we ordered the free drink (the bartender kindly let us do so, even though we were a few minutes late) and also ordered empanadas, not realizing there were separate “mini empanadas” that were the free item. As we went to take the food to the rooftop, a man with a ponytail (not the bartender who served us) approached us and asked for our room number in a way that felt abrupt and uncomfortable. We later realized this was because of the mix-up with the order, as we apparently ordered a full price menu item when we thought we were ordering the free happy hour food. Still, for a hotel that cost us over $700 a night, being essentially chased down over $16 empanadas felt unnecessary and off-putting. Even the bartender seemed surprised and said he wouldn’t have handled it that way. As one of the only guests of color we noticed during our stay, we couldn’t help but wonder if bias played a role in how the situation was handled. While the hotel did apologize and took 50% off the empanadas, the experience left us feeling watched and uncomfortable, which was disappointing given how special everything else was. We’d love to hear how other guests of color have experienced this space, and we hope the hotel uses this feedback as an opportunity to reflect on guest interactions. Despite that moment, there’s a lot to love here and the design, amenities, and creativity are top-notch.
First time in Charleston!!! Everything about this hotel is amazing. The staff are very friendly and helpful. From the time you check in you feel pampered. We started off our 30th anniversary staying at The Loutrel and it didn’t disappoint. They even gave us a little anniversary surprise. Loved the coffee in the lobby in the morning and fruit infused water throughout the day. Turn down bed service with a surprise was definitely an added special touch. Breakfast was delicious. The rooftop was a great place to relax and have a cocktail before heading out to dinner. The rooms are so clean and the beds very comfortable. We didn’t have a car and were nervous about being able to walk everywhere we wanted to but this hotel is in a perfect location walkable to everyplace. Already planning our trip back to Charleston just to stay at The Loutrel again.
We hosted our company retreat with the Loutrel, and I cannot recommend it highly enough! It's a boutique hotel so we felt absolutely cared for from every level of staff. Folks were so friendly and helpful, service was simply top notch. The food was delicious, they had so many complimentary services including free happy hour, ice tea station, coffee station, breakfast, free mini-bar, snacks in conference room, bicycles, bug spray, gym, you name it! The room itself, incredibly comfortable and clean, love the turndown service with the cookie. The neighborhood is central but quiet, walkable to everywhere! We hope to return here, thank you again to the entire team!
We spent the weekend at The Loutrel and now fully understand why it’s rated 10 out of 10. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with genuine warmth by the front desk staff — they really made us feel at home. Every day at 4pm, the hotel hosts a complimentary happy hour with drinks and appetizers, followed by fresh-baked cookies at 5pm — such a fun and delicious touch! On top of that, they even provided a stylish beach towel bag complete with sunscreen. It felt like they truly thought of everything to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. The atmosphere, service, and thoughtful details throughout the hotel made it one of the best experiences we’ve ever had. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Charleston — we can’t wait to come back!
